Hiroshima’s Past to Miyajima’s Peace: Japan Solo Day Trips
[Music] [Applause] [Music] Hiroshima and Meyama are just a short ferry apart, but they feel like two different worlds. On a solo day trip, I started where history still echoes at Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park and ended at the floating shrine surrounded by sea and silent. Here’s what the day felt like and what you should know if you’re planning your own journey through these two powerful places in Japan. I started the morning in Hiroshima at Peace Memorial Park. The A bomb dome still stands. Quiet, broken, but very powerful. I was told it’s being supported by steel rod beams so the building does not crumble. Even with people passing through, the whole park feels still like the city decided not to erase what happened but to grow around it. Inside the Peace Memorial Museum, everything shifts. You see watches stopped at 8:15. Shadows burn into stones and personal stories that stop you cold. It was very heavy in here, but also very necessary. If you’re visiting Hiroshima, give yourself time here, not to rush, but to really listen and read about the history of this great city. After the museum, I needed air. I headed to Mojima, a peaceful island just 30 minutes away by ferry. It’s easy to get there from Hiroshima station. And the moment the island came into view, everything softened. Once we disembarked the ferry, the first sight you were greeted by was the freerange deers that roamed the entire island. It seemed like they were there just to protect it and shield it from the outside world. It was beautiful. It was calm and peaceful. Mojima is home to Itsukushima Stinto Shrine, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of Japan’s most iconic site. The shrine itself is built over water. Walking through it in silence, hearing just waves and footstep, it felt like meditation. I wasn’t in a rush. I just kept walking, noticing little details. The lantern, the lights, the wood. It’s a kind of place that ask you to be present and you want to say yes. Mojima also has the great Tory gates, which this day it was low tide, so it was visible. You could walk down there. It’s beautiful. Just a beautiful quiet site. I wander up to Daiso in temple is talked into the hillside of Mount Mason with moss covered stairs, golden prayer wheels and soft sound of chanting in the distance. I sat there for a while just breathing and taking it all in. You could see from the distance you could see the fairies. You could see Hiroshima. You were surrounded by water. You could hear the water waves. That’s what solo travel does best. It gives you moments you did not know you needed. All right, I have come to the end of the solo day trip from Hiroshima to Mia. This trip wasn’t just beautiful, it was grounding. It was heavy. I got to learn about pain and resilience and healing and tranquility and nature all in one day. So, if you’re planning to do this day trip, I have a few tips to help you plan this process. So, I took the bullet train from Tokyo all the way to Hiroshima. It took about 3 hours 50 minutes by Hiroshima train station. There’s a lot of restaurants. There’s a lot of hotels within the vicinity of it. So, it’s very easily a walkable small um city. So, I highly recommend stay in those areas. You’ll be able to navigate very easy. Also, number two, the peace park. If you’re planning to go, go first thing in the morning. There’s no crowd. you can go take your time and just listen and enjoy the process. Another one is if you’re going to the peace museum, it takes about an hour, two hours to navigate through, but they’ll give you a pass which you can step out and come back. It gets very heavy in there by between seeing the photos, the visuals, the clothes, the suitcases, it get to be very heavy. So, if you need to step out and come back, you they’ll allow you to do so. and also Mijiama the train the ferry station the ferry leaves every 15 20 minutes so don’t feel like you’re rushing you can I highly recommend you take some time between Hiroshima and going on to the Mijyama they have some cafes they have some shops some restaurants you can go get something to eat and decompress before you get on the ferry and to also make sure that you download Google map and Google translate if you plan to go to the Daiso temple or to Mount Mason once you get up to the mountain side your service kind of comes and goes so you want to Make sure you have a backup in case the offline version to be able to navigate through. But if you have any questions regarding Hiroshima or Mijyama, please put them in the comment section. Don’t forget to share, like, and subscribe. Until next time, bye-bye. [Music]
