OSAKA is NOT What We Expected 🇯🇵 The BEST City in JAPAN?

I love this. This is a
boarding point for women only. Guys, that’s also a popular rule that we learned
here in Japan is that you’re supposed to when you get something to eat, you’re supposed to stand
and eat it at the same place you bought it. It’s apparently rude or like offensive to walk whilst
you’re eating. Hello. Hello. Hello. A very rainy welcome from Osaka, but we are very, very happy
to be here. Let me tell you where we are. First and foremost, obviously has to be the famous Osaka
Castle. And as you can see, everybody is obviously out with their umbrellas because it is a pretty
miserable start to the day. But that is not going to dampen our spirits. So we are here in the city
of Osaka, a population of 2.7 million I believe, but the greater metropolitan areas is about 19
million, isn’t it? 19-20 million. Pretty big city. Once again, that is uh Japan is quite good at
those for sure. Oh, look at this gate. Old is it? Very grand. Yeah, we are heading in.
I love the fact that it’s raining and it has literally not stopped anyone. We’re all still
out and about. We’re like, do you know what? We’re just going to enjoy it. the castle is very
traditional and ancient and cultural on the outside and then on the inside it’s supposed to
be really very modern. It’s a modern museum and they’ve got elevators apparently in there. Oh,
there it is. Lo and behold wow. Have a look at that. And if you didn’t know then about 67% of
Japan is actually covered in forest. I think we were working it out actually about 33% live in
Tokyo of Japan’s population. Is that right? Which is insane. Honestly insane. But I’m so excited to
be here. Look at this. I mean, this is the queue straight here for people wanting to go inside.
We don’t have any tickets at the moment. So, this was apparently made back in the 1500s by a
feudal family. This looks absolutely stunning. So, guys, we just came around to the side. This is
like the elevators that we were talking about. Makes it a bit more accessible, but we just found
out as well that unfortunately the line is really long. They don’t have the time slots available,
I think, for the next like hour and a half. Moral of the story, make sure you’ve got tickets
booked in advance because if you try and walk in on the day, you might not be able to get the
tickets. Yeah, I think it’s super busy. But look, you can actually up there. It looks like people
are right at the very very top. And I guess you must get some cute views over this park here as
well. It’s like a castle park. Are these bonsai trees? I think so. They look like I thought bonsai
trees were like the round bush. This is OA city. We are walking towards actually what we hope Oh,
mind the sea of umbrellas is the metro station and right now the green man is flashing. Oh no, quick
run. If I’m not wrong then this giant building which has like a bit of a dome on it as well is
the Osaka Museum of History apparently. No, like the Mary Poppins that we are today. Let us take
you to the metro of a and show you what it’s like. Um I actually see as well they have a eco card
for 820 yen and you get unlimited rides on it. All Osaka Metro and Osaka city bus lines. So that
makes way more sense cuz I think it’s like 400 for both of us. So yeah, let’s do that. So, English
one day card two people one day pass. Pretty much like Tokyo so far. Perfect. There we go. 1640.
No problem. I got them. There we go. Easy for one day. It’s unlimited on the metro and on the
bus. Look at this. I love this. This is a boarding point for women only. Weekdays from the first
train until 9:00 a.m. So, I’m going to assume that that’s probably in like the rush hour commute. And
then look at how cute these little chairs are. Why are they sideways? That’s actually so sweet. But
look at you after a little break. Just keeping myself hydrated. I think we’ve already walked
like 15,000 steps in Tokyo. We averaged I think about 30,000 steps a day, which is wild. Like
honestly, our feet hurt so bad. That just give you an idea about how big the city is. Yeah. And
how much walking we did. Honestly, it was insane. It’s giving me New York vibes actually.
Luckily, it doesn’t smell. Yeah, I was going to say without half of the smell and half
of the uh the rubbish. But let’s get on board. Nice and quiet. And it’s not busy either. Really
nice, really clean. Very wide and spacious. We made it out of the metro. Actually, I really
like that metro. It feels really like I was saying like quite retro, quite vintage. Very
nice. New York subway. New York subway style, but let me catch my breath because these stairs
are taking it out on me, man. But honestly, I am loving Osaka so far. We’re heading towards
um Kurummon Market because this is apparently the most popular food market in Osaka. Is this
it? Yeah, it is. known as the kitchen of Japan, I think. Oh, sakur is. Yeah. Oh, sorry. Stop.
Look, I’ve already seen on the first stop there’s ice cream. And they look, you literally want
to have an ice cream at the very first. Sorry, I can’t help myself. I just uh I see it straight
up and I have to go. Market as well behind us. Oh, come down that way as well. Wow. Okay. So, I have
also heard that if you want to have takyaki, then the best place apparently to have it is in Osaka
because this is apparently the best place for it. So, I’m curious to see. Let’s see what it’s like.
Oh, guys, I also have heard that of course you cannot come to Japan and not try Wagyu. So, we
are yet to try this. This looks like Vietnamese. That’s interesting. I wasn’t expecting to see some
Vietnamese over here, but I am Yeah. looking for hopefully some Wagyu. But this is supposed to be,
I think, a really famous fish market as well. I’ve heard that you can get lots of um local produce
and Oh, look at the fish. That might be the drink. There you go. So, takoyaki is popular here. And
then I think a lot of shellfish as well. Oh yeah, that sounds also very, very good. Oh, yeah.
There we go. Oh, that looks really good. We got some takyakis. Yes, of course. Do they have
it here? Hell yeah. All right, I’m down. Oh, this looks really good. Going in there. That looks
insane. Oh, look. They’ve got little like cakes here as well. These look like um those One’s got
sweet red beans and one’s got cream inside. Looks yummy, isn’t it? I’m so excited for this. All
the nuts look exactly the same. They do, right? Oh, yum. I will try not to. This looks delicious. Yum. I’m so excited for this. Should we stand
here, guys? That’s also a popular rule that we learned here in Japan is that you’re supposed to
when you get something to eat, you’re supposed to stand and eat it at the same place you bought
it. It’s apparently rude or like offensive to walk whilst you’re eating because it’s a very clean
place, right? I think it’s to do with that. So, there you go. We abide by those rules. If
you’re walking and eating, you might drop in, make the place dirty. So, the polite thing to
do is just stand where you get the food from, eat, get rid of the the rubbish there, give it
to them because they can dispose of it. Because another thing about Japan, you don’t have bins
everywhere. Also, I’m still getting used to the currency down here. That is very beautiful. That’s
a 500 yen quin. Oh, that is pretty. That looks a bit like the pound. That’s right. Nice. Oh, you
guys, while I remember as well, if you have any recommendations for us while we’re here in Osaka,
please do let us know because I would love to hear them. We want to try all the good food. Thank you,
Ara. How many have they put in one? Right. There’s so many little sticks. They smell so good. They’re
going to be absolutely flipping. Look at this steam. It’s got octopus, right? So, if you’re not
familiar with a takiyaki, then it’s basically it’s kind of like a batter, like a dough, right? And
then they they put it in a ball shape and there’s bits in the middle like topping in the middle. Is
it really hot? Oh no. Instant regret. Do you know what? They look so good. They smell so good that
we just couldn’t wait. This sauce is 10 out of 10. So flipping good. Wow. So we love takayyaki,
right? But how is it in Japan? This is the first time we’ve tried takoyaki. You can actually
taste what’s on the inside cuz usually unpopular opinion. Maybe the inside the stuffing you can’t
really taste. No, because it is literally the dough that’s so dominant and the sauces, so you
can’t really tell what’s on the inside here. It’s all chunks of octopus and it’s so flipping good.
Yummy. Oh my goodness. Delicious. Wow. I don’t even know what sauce it is on the top, but it’s
so flipping good. Okay, that was an amazingly solid start to uh whatever the name of this market
is. What is the name of this market again? Sorry, don’t want to disturb you. Sorry, I was looking at
the food behind us. Uh, it’s called Kuraman Market and it’s the most popular one here in Osaka
and Asaka is called like the kitchen of Japan apparently because all the food here is supposed
to be the best. It was known actually as like the rice trade hub actually like back in the is it
the Edo period fish there. There’s a fish here. There’s a fish there. But look at this. This is
even longer all the way. All right, that’s where we’re going. Yeah, that looks buzzing down there.
I say that one. Let’s head over there. See what else is happening. Another thing that Japan is
absolutely like blown us away with is everything that’s got cream in it. Like the desserts are
elite. Love it. Wow. There is no end in sight. As far as this row of shops is concerned, it is
going all the way as far as your eye can see. We’ve got more takyaki here. I want to try some
vagua as well. That would be uh incredible because apparently Vakyu here in Osaka is also meant to
be really good. But I heard about Kobe beef. I don’t know. Maybe we might be going to Kobe if we
can. It’s not that far. So Kobe, Osaka, Nara, and Kyojo are pretty close by. I just saw back there
some grilled eel sushi. Unagi. Yes. Nice. I mean, I am absolutely 100% down for an AI as well.
Eels is another thing that Japan excels at. So, uh, okay. Oh my god. Jesus web. Wagu for 1,500
a skewer. We got a lobster up here. So, it’s a bit different to the fish that we’ve been seeing
so far. The size of the shrimps. Incredible. Wow. That is literally so much for the senses right
now. I don’t know where you flip it. Look, my jaw is like, we got to make a stop. I saw mochi back
there and I really want one of them. Insane. Where is it? Oh, with a strawberry inside. I completely
missed this by the way. Right. This is inside. There’s so much variety from Japan. Kyushu region.
Sakura. This is strawberry duku melon. Dauku is meant to be a good one. Yeah. I’m going to go for
the strawberry with chocolate. Is it? All right. So, can I have one strawberry chocolate? Would you
like one as well? Yes. I’m just thinking which one I’m going to go for. Can I have a sakura? Let’s
see. Moji again originates from Japan. Oh, that’s it. Just to Thank you. Here we go. Oh, lovely.
Oh, perfect. Let’s have a little look and see. And they’ve got some other cute little bits in
here as well. Japanese sweets over here. Chocolate turmeric. Oh, look at this. What’s this? Boiled
scallops, red pepper. Are you making them all up over here? Yes. So, this is 700 for two emojis.
Oh, do you know what? Nobody does it better than Japan. But I did see my one was the most popular
one and it was 500. Yours was 200. So, there’s a big difference. Yeah. So, flavor matters clearly.
Okay. Thank you very much. Thank you. I’m excited. And look, this is the um emoji, the dessert emoji
as well. I’ve never actually seen it until now. Oh my gosh. First mochi in Japan. Let’s see. Save
some for me as well. Yeah. Okay. M. Oh, look at that. It does legit have a strawberry in there. M.
Is that the best tasting mochi you’ve ever had in your life? Oh, yeah. For real. That is insane. I’m
just going to all in one it. I can tell from the m that that’s really good. It’s the perfect texture.
It is everything you wish for in a mochi. Can I just say that’s strawberry on its own? 10 out of
10. Excuse me if I’ve got chocolate in my teeth, but that is stuff of dreams. I’m not even lying.
This is so good. Wo. What have you just found then? I don’t know. I’ve seen a sake bar. A
tasting. Saki tasting. That is it. Saki. Yeah, saki. Right. Okay. There we go. Just isn’t saki
rice wine. I think so. So I was given someone,000 yen for three tiny cups. What is that? Like5 for
three cups. All right. This better be worth it. Are we doing it? Yeah. Why? Let’s give it a go.
Is anyone here? I’m not sure. Somebody is here. Someone is coming. Yes. Which one is the best one?
This one? I think I think one. Okay. What else? Choose two more. So, let’s do one. Yeah. This
one. Yeah. This one. One. Yeah. And which one is the strongest one? Strong. Yeah. Which one is
the strongest? When I drink it, I’m like, “Yeah, Japanese rice wine.” Yes. This one. This one.
Okay. So, this one. Okay. All right. So, one, two, three. Three. Okay. Let’s do it. Yes. Thank you.
I’m just going to have it right now. See what it’s like. If I can’t make it to the end of the vlog,
it’s because of the saki. All right. Now you know. Okay. Ah, perfect. Okay. That’s okay. Okay. We’re
we’re putting down the the name cards right now, like a name tag, if you want to call it that, so
we know exactly what we’re trying. Okay. We’re going to take a seat inside and we will sample
some Japanese sakiato. Oh, look at that. Okay. They look beautiful. Which one is
your favorite? Ah, this one. Okay, let’s do this. Imagine drinking
the whole thing. Thank you. Okay, so excited. Wow. Wow. Very nice. Very nice. Okay. [Applause] Okay. Okay. Nice. Very good. Very
good. Now, do I drink floor or slo? Okay, thank you. That was so funny. What a legend. So sweet. They
were really generous with this, by the way. They filled it right to the very top. All right, so
which one are we going for? Imani. So funny. She was such a legend. Tazzy’s going for his first
one. Smooth, but it’s got a burn to it as well. Oh, this is actually really nice. So, saki is
a rice wine. Is that right? Yeah. Steady on, boy. It’s umami flowers, I think. Ooh, it smells
really good. Floral, right? So nice. Oo. Right. That is stronger. That’s really nice. It burns
and it goes down. Woo. That’s going to blow the cobwebs away. Wow. I did not think this vlog was
going to be like a a food and saki tasting vlog, but apparently it is. It’s meant to be the
strongest one. I think so. Yeah. And you look like you’re not not sure on it. Oh, this is
strong. Is it? I don’t know what it tastes though. Okay. Doesn’t really smell
anything. Yeah, but it tastes a lot. Wo. Right. Woof. Ooh. Do you know what the best
thing about rice wine is is that like you don’t even have to have much honestly. You can have
like the tiniest tiniest bit. And I think they do normally have it in small glasses, don’t you?
With stuff like you have it in a you have it in a short glass and you drink it really slowly, but
it honestly it’s like juice. I can drink it and within 10 minutes I like to walk out the door.
Yeah. Shocking. You know what would be amazing? A working beef skill. Oh my gosh. Show. We’re
trying to find some. Let’s go. Let’s go. Let’s do it. All right. Let’s Let’s do this. A few moments
later. Are you paying card or cash? I will pay card. That was wicked. I really enjoyed that.
That was definitely a little experience here. Some saki tasting. I wasn’t expecting to do that,
but why not? What have we got out here as well? This is ah tuna. Maybe some like some sushi. Oh,
yeah. Sashimi and sushi. I honestly maybe that’s really uncultured of me, but I don’t know what
the difference is. But I think it’s both raw fish. That looks insane. And look at the size of
those oysters. Oh wow. Today’s tuna landing site is Nagasaki. There we go. Wow. Can I just draw
your attention to this bad boy here? That’s a tuna I heard. Flipping hell. And it’s legit as
well. The size of that. Is it a blue fin tuna? I just saw a sign for it. That’s flipping huge.
These guys were a pretty penny as well. Yeah, it’s really expensive, isn’t it? Wo. Who knew?
Do you know how cheap? I had no idea. Every day this school day. Oh, guys, we just stumbled
across somewhere who’s got Wagyu beef. And we’re thinking there’s a lot of skewers. So,
should we Is it something you want? Let’s get one Wagyu. Yeah. And I was thinking, let’s get
some uh eel. Oh, shall we? Let’s try some grilled eel and some wagu beef. Japanese know how to do
their eels. Yes. And we have never tried eel, have we? Today’s been a day of firsts, you know.
I’m actually excited for this. Wow. We’ve got the rau going here. Well, videos could smell. You
know what I’m talking about. Very good. Higato sizzling. Loving it. Loving it. Got the blow torch
which uh cooks it like really quickly as well. going on. It gives it that glaze on the top,
doesn’t it? That crispy bit. Yeah. Look at that. Oh, it’s huge. And we got to We have some
Ew. Some grilled Oo. Ew. That looks insane. Oh my gosh. Look at that. It’s so steamy hot, though. It
literally came fresh off the grill right now. So, that’s our almost ready. [Music] Unogi time,
baby. Unogi time. It’s time for some eel. That looks so like glazy. Looks really nice. Oh, this
is done nicely. It’s not chewy. One bit. Salty. What’s the flavor? I would imagine an eel was
in the sauce. Sticky. It’s like eating fish. Oh, okay. Have a little bit. I’ll try a little.
If I didn’t tell you you were eating eel, you would think it’s okay. Have the tiniest
bite. The texture, the taste, everything’s like you’re eating fish. True. Yeah, I give you
that. Time for our first Wagyu beef in Japan. Oh, it smells good. That is a massive, generous diced
flipping piece, though, was it? Oh my god, that’s insane. Is it tender? Mhm. It better be. It’s
so juicy. And he cooked that so quick as well. Straight from the grill. It’s all because of the
blow torch, baby. Rating. Rating. I need a rating out of 10. Is it so nice? We are in the area of
Doon Buri. It was just a teeny tiny short walk over from Kuran Market. Oh, look at that. You got
a lucky cat. I know what it’s like. The Japanese lucky cat. Yeah. Oh, this is wicked. Huh. This
is busy as well. There’s lots of people out and about. But I guess this is a nice area cuz it’s
covered as well. So, you can come, you can chill, you can just take a look around. You know what I’m
after? I’m after the political running man. Oh, of course we got to find that. That’s got to be
done. That’s like I swear if you would Google Osaka, that’s what comes up. That’s the first
thing that comes up. That is the main landmark of Osaka. It has to be done. The side Yeah. Look
all of these. That’s wicked. And you’ve got these um thing you wanted to do. Yeah, because they have
these. I forget what they’re called, but they are honestly everywhere. Yeah, I’ve seen them in so
many different places. Oh, I want a Is that a takaryyaki one? I want one of these. That actually
looks really cool. Do we have change? Yeah. Yeah, I’ve actually got change. Oh, yeah. Why not?
Go on. I need 400. There we are. One. One, two, two. And she needs sand. Okay. Okay. Something’s
happening. Oh, it came. There you are. Right. Open it up. See what you got. This is so exciting.
So, we’re going for either this one, that one, or which one have you got? Let’s You might have to
do it. And without breaking your nails. Yeah. Oh, cute. He’s got a surfboard. You got the surfboard
one? Yeah. Mr. Banana Minion. That’s actually so cute. He’s on a little surfboard. That’s quite
appropriate for us. We love to be by the beach. His name’s Kevin. We’re big kids at heart. What
can we say? Hey, look at that. We got Kevin loving it. Let’s go. Let’s go. That was fun.
Everywhere here in Osaka has been very quirky, very colorful as well. Like aside from the food
and everything, you’ve got some uh nice little souvenirs as well. Like I see why it’s called
the kitchen of Japan because it’s got just so much food on offer everywhere. Like big emphasis
on seafood. We got Pokémon stuff. I am looking for the main landmark of Asarta, the glyco running,
man. Oh, look there. Cambodia. We got some more food here. This is like I imagine as well at night
when all the lights come on like and it’s bright and it’s bustling and there’s all the neon signs.
But honestly, I feel like you’d get so lost here. Imagine trying to find something. It would be like
honestly Google Maps would tell you you’ve arrived and you’d be like where we need to come here when
it’s after sundown. Absolutely. This place would come to a lot. Absolutely. Oh, he’s paying the
bars. I wonder where that music was coming from there. That’s so cool. I can see signs as well
for the expo which is actually in Osaka as well this year. I think it’s running from April up
until maybe October. I’m not sure if I’ve just said that totally wrong. Oh my gosh. Is that a
Shiva Enu cafe? We love Shiva. We love Shiva. Just coming up around the side here, we’ve got
the iconic crab with the moving legs. Oh yeah, over here. Wait one second. There we go. Feels
a bit like uh the time scroll after this place here. Wait one second. I have a feeling what
I’m looking for is down here. Keep going. I can sense it. Let’s go. Let’s go. Are we ready? I’m
here. I think it’s coming up. So, I had no idea about this being even a thing. And Taz is always
telling me and he tells me, “You must know this. You must have heard of this.” And now finally,
we’re going to see it. Yeah. Wait, wait, wait. Let’s keep walking a little bit. And raise your
house. Raise your house. Raise yourselves for the There it is. Happy days. We have done it. This kind of comes out of nowhere though,
honestly. Guys, it’s all like huge buildings surrounded and we’re actually just over the river.
Can we say now our trip to Osaka is complete with the glyco man and the canals here. Yo, this
place is absolutely mental like everywhere right now. Especially Morso with the flipping
umbrellas because everyone’s like bumping into you and everyone’s going real flipping crazy for
that glyco man up here on the bridge. Here’s a little hack for you guys. Don’t spend time on
the bridge. Just make sure take the steps and you will have a fraction of the flipping crowd
down here up there. There’s so many people. You were right. This looks good from here. Look.
Great spot. Wow. Look at that. We have this place pretty much to ourselves. Yeah, happy
holidays. Time for some shots. Get ready. Gan, we’re coming for you. Oh my goodness, you guys.
Osaka is buzzing and we have 1,000% got to check this area out in the evening because I think it
will be even crazier than it is right now. But honestly, so so worth it. How can you come to
Aaka and not come to Dobururi at night? First impressions of Aaka have been stellar. 10 out
of 10, guys. Insane. and we’ve loved it. Look at that little 3D billboard right up there as
well with the unicorn. I think that right now, you guys, we are probably going to finish it
up. So, we have had the most insane birthday here in Osaka. It has been incredible. I highly
recommend if Japan is not on your bucket list, get on it now. And if not, also get on it now.
If you made it this far, thank you very, very somewhere in the next. Let’s go. [Music]

  10. 4:00 – The reorientation of benches on Japanese train station platforms is a safety measure directly informed by research into passenger behavior, particularly that of intoxicated individuals. Studies by railway operators like JR West revealed a significant pattern: about 60% of platform falls involved passengers under the influence of alcohol.

The critical finding was not that people were simply stumbling near the platform edge. Instead, research showed that intoxicated individuals would often sit on benches facing the tracks, then abruptly stand and walk straight forward, causing them to fall directly onto the rails.

In response, railway companies implemented an effective, low-cost solution: rotating the benches 90 degrees to run parallel to the tracks. With this new alignment, if a person stands and walks straight, their path is now safely along the length of the platform rather than toward the dangerous track area. This data-driven change, first introduced around 2015, has since been widely adopted as a successful safety initiative across Japan, proving more economical than installing expensive platform screen doors. Tanimachi line has doors, though 😊
