Japan’s largest wind bell festival at Enshu Sanzan (three temples)!
Hello, I’m Ichiro 😊 Today, I’m going to take a stroll around the Enshu Sanzan Wind Bell Fwstival! The first place is Kasui-sai Temple. June 6, 2025. After seeing lilies and hydrangeas at Kasui Lily Garden, I came to Kasui-sai Temple next door. Kasui-sai Temple is a historic temple with ties to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Enshu Sanzan (three mountains) refers to three historic temples in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Today, we will visit the Enshu Sanzan Wind Bell Fwstival, starting with Kasui-sai Temple, then Yusan-ji Temple, and finally Mt. Hatta. The Enshu Sanzan mountains are beautiful in autumn, but there are very few foreign tourists. But that’s just because they’re not well-known to foreign tourists yet. It’s truly a beautiful place rich in nature.😊 You can definitely enjoy a more peaceful stroll here than in Kyoto or Kamakura. ✌️ By the way, wind chimes are a symbol of summer and give a feeling of coolness. The typical image is of them hanging from the eaves of large houses in the countryside. What an impressive temple gate😊 First of all, I should point out that wind chimes are meant to ring occasionally, not to be enjoyed continuously like this😅 There are about 2,000 wind chimes.😊 The Wind Bell Fwstival is a chance to enjoy colorful wind chimes as works of art.🤔 In ordinary homes, only one wind chime is hung. Recently, some people have started decorating their homes with wind chimes as interior decorations. This is Yusan-ji Temple, a six-minute drive from Kasui-sai Temple. It is said to be a sacred mountain for the eyes, but it is also a temple that is said to be beneficial for the legs and for preventing cancer. The temple gate is a national important cultural property. This temple gate was once the main gate of Kakegawa Castle, and was donated and relocated when the castle was abandoned during the Meiji Restoration. Passing through the temple gate, you will find yourself in a quiet place.😊 There are fewer wind chimes than at Kasui-sai Temple, but I prefer the sound of these ones. The birdsong is lovely.😊 You can also hear the sound of a small stream. 😊 It’s also beautiful in autumn when the leaves change color. ✌️ The sunlight filtering through the trees, the sound of wind chimes, and the sound of the stream all soak into my heart, making for the perfect stroll. 😊 After climbing for about 10 minutes through a lush forest called Tengu Valley, you’ll reach the main hall and a three-story pagoda. However, I plan to walk a lot at Mt. Hatta, where the hydrangeas are in full bloom, so I won’t climb it today. I’m not young anymore, so it’s important to pace myself.😊 The red apron on the Jizo statue is said to be for praying for the health and safety of children. Wind chimes were once used to ward off evil spirits, but now they have become a symbol of summer. These are iron wind chimes, not glass ones. It has a high, clear sound, but I wonder if it will ring. 🤔 It rang! 😊 This is Mt. Hatta, a 20-minute drive from Yusan-ji Temple. At Mt. Hatta, we will climb to the main temple! It’s a 5-minute walk from the parking lot. The temple gate is just ahead. The hydrangeas are in full bloom. Wind chimes are hanging from the eaves of the cafeteria. The temple gate (Niomon Gate) is a national important cultural property. There are said to be 3,000 hydrangea plants in the temple grounds, and they look as if they are growing naturally. The magnificent temple gate. The roof is made of very expensive cypress bark.😊 The characters for Mt. Hatta. For some reason, Mt. Hatta Sonei-ji Temple is called by the name of the mountain instead of the name of the temple. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the main hall, so let’s go!😊 A straight approach to the temple😊 Birds singing😊 Across the small stream, hydrangeas bloom naturally, blending in with the surrounding scenery. 😊 Just as the occasional sound of wind chimes adds to the charm of the place, the hydrangeas blooming quietly, as if hidden, also add to the charm. This is also a famous spot for autumn leaves. I’ve included a link to last year’s autumn leaves video in the description, so please take a look 🙏 Trees stretching straight up into the sky😊 By the way, there is no admission fee to visit Enshu Sanzan, unlike temples in Kamakura and Kyoto. It’s amazing that you can enjoy this atmosphere for free ✌️ I hope more foreign tourists will come here 😊 Most of the tourists at the local tourist spot, Lake Kawaguchi, are foreign tourists, so it feels strange. Beautiful moss😊 The moss makes this approach special. I leave the approach and head for the hydrangea plaza. This is the hydrangea plaza. Hydrangeas bloom during the rainy season, so I feel like they are often decorated with umbrellas.🤔 It looks like the umbrellas are meant to represent hydrangeas. In places like Kyoto and Kamakura, it can be difficult to walk due to the crowds. Sunlight filtering through the trees and the pleasant sound of the wind.😊 There are many fashionable dessert shops in Kamakura and Kyoto, but here there are dumplings that are not fashionable but very popular. These are yakuyoke (amulet) dumplings. Most people who come to Mt. Hatta buy and eat yakuyoke dumplings. You have to wait for hours to buy the seasonal Yakuyoke dumplings.😱 The popularity of yakuyoke dumplings began in the Tokugawa period, when there were many small dumpling teahouses on the temple grounds. One of the pleasures of visiting a historic temple is thinking about the past. Yakuyoke dumplings are now sold at this large dumpling teahouse. The lively sound of wind chimes can be heard. Stop, wind!😱 👍 After climbing a long staircase, you will find the main hall. It’s finally time to visit the shrine. In the days before cars, people used to take several days to come here to worship. “Sonei-ji Temple” “Yakuyoke (amulet)” This is a wind chime for making wishes. Wishes are written on wooden strips. “The wind chimes are very fragile. Please do not touch them.” Behind the wind chimes, kimono fabric is displayed. Approximately 4,000 wind chimes are displayed at Mt. Hatta. The Enshu Sanzan Wind Bell Fwstival is said to be one of the largest wind chime festivals in Japan. These are the last wind chimes. The last wind chimes are colorful but do not ring. Mt. Hatta is celebrating its 1300th anniversary this year. Thank you for watching the video all the way to the end. See you in the next video! 😊

Какой ваш любимый способ наслаждаться летом: слушать звуки ветра в ветровых колокольчиках или гулять среди цветущих гортензий? 🌸✨
Hello from New York City thank you I never knew this existed. Thank you for your beautiful videos. You take me places that I’ll never get to.❤
so beautiful I will enjoy visiting this place next time I am in Japan
Thank you for this wonderful video. I lived in Omaezaki in 1993. That year I met my future wife, an American living in the Kami Yamanashi area of Fukuroi. Together we visited Kasui-sai many times. In 2019 we went back to Japan and visited Yusan-ji for the first time and it was so great we want to go back again next year. As much as I love Ginkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera and Senso-ji, lesser known places such as Kasui-sai and Yusan-ji are my favourites.
Gracias por los maravillosos lugares que nos enseñas, agradables paseos 🙏💜🌞🌿

Hi Ichiro i am a bit behind with watching your videos , i have been Hay making while the hot weather lasts .
Wind chimes are all the craze over here in the gardens . What a fantastic display a lot of work must have gone into the different tones and where best to place them .
There is no wonder the Japanese people are healthy the amount of steps between each temple and shrines is unbelievable.
All the best.
Beautiful place! I was going to ask how your English is so good, but then I saw you used Google Translate. I didn't realize it worked so well!
