Czech President Petr Pavel was received by Japanese Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Friday. Their meeting began at 11:00 a.m. local time (4:00 a.m. CET) and lasted about 30 minutes. In line with tradition, no details of the meeting were made public.

President Pavel arrived in Japan on Tuesday. During his visit, he has toured the cities of Himeji and Hiroshima and attended Czech National Day at Expo 2025 in Osaka, where the world exhibition is taking place from April to October.

Later on Friday, Pavel is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

This is the first official visit to Japan by a Czech president since Václav Klaus traveled there in 2007 and 2008. Václav Havel also made a four-day visit in 1995.
