Japan’s Foreign Ministry has advised Japanese citizens to cancel trips to the Thailand-Cambodia border areas amid ongoing military clashes between the two Southeast Asian nations.
The ministry has raised the level of its travel advisory to three, the second highest on a scale of one to four. Level 3 urges Japanese nationals to avoid all travel.
The alert covers areas within 50 kilometers of the border on the Thai side and within 30 kilometers of the border on the Cambodian side.
Ministry officials say about 450 Japanese citizens are located in those areas, and no casualties have been reported.
Armed clashes erupted in the two countries’ disputed border region on Thursday. The continued fighting has left more than 30 people dead on both sides and forced a total of over 110,000 people to evacuate.
