Have you ever had taco rice? #japanesefood #japan #shorts
I bet you’ve never heard of this Japanese food. And yes, I assure you this food was born in Japan. I’m here at the homeiest little restaurant, a restaurant that has a view of the beach. But I’m in Okinawa to eat one of my favorite foods, taco rice. Taco rice was born in Okinawa, Japan, when a local chef noticed American soldiers there were looking for some familiar food options like tacos. The chef decided he’d serve up traditional taco fillings on top of Japanese rice. It was an instant hit and became a symbol of the American and Japanese cultures in Okinawa that still love
Introducing one of my favorite Japanese foods 🌮
If u didn’t know, there are a lot of American soldiers stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Taco rice was born in 1984 when a local chef combined taco fillings, a flavor that American soldiers knew and loved, with a bed of Japanese rice. It’s been a staple dish in Okinawa ever since 😋
The restaurant I came to is called Captain Kangaroo (the most random name lol) and is located in Nago, a city in the northern part of Okinawa. After trying a few others, this one was my favorite cuz of their generous portions, ratio of ingredients, shop vibe, and of course flavor. Def try their homemade hot sauce, too 🌶️

I kinda heard that story somewhere. Oh yes the same as for "Omurice, Napolitan spaghetti, Hambagu (hamburger steak), Japanese curry rice, Tonkatsu, Korokke (croquettes), Cream stew, Shokupan (Japanese white bread), Sandwiches, Pizza with Japanese toppings, KFC-style fried chicken, Spam musubi, Goya chanpuru with Spam, Japanese school lunch bread/milk combos, American-style pancakes (hotcakes), Western-style soups and stews, Instant ramen (inspired by U.S. food science), Mayo-based salads.
