Nihondaira Observation Deck, is a stunning viewpoint in Shizuoka that offers breathtaking 360-degree views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay, Shimizu Port, and the surrounding landscapes.
Location and Access.
The observation deck is situated on the Nihondaira plateau, about 300 meters above sea level. It is a popular scenic spot in Shizuoka, Japan, well known for wide-ranging panoramic views. Visitors can also use the Nihondaira Ropeway, which takes you from the plateau down to the historic Kunozan Toshogu Shrine while providing spectacular aerial views of mountains and ocean. The area features several walking trails, tea plantations, and cultural sites nearby.

The main highlight is the 360-degree glass observation floor offering unobstructed views.
Visitors enjoy striking sights of Mt. Fuji, the highest and most iconic mountain in Japan, along with Suruga Bay and Shimizu Port.
On clear days, you can also see the Izu Peninsula and sunsets that color the sky in vibrant hues.
There’s a large monitor inside that shows Mount Fuji in case the natural view is obscured by weather.
The observation deck building itself is an architectural highlight, designed with wood sourced from Shizuoka Prefecture by renowned architect Kengo Kuma, blending beautifully with the natural landscape.
