okinawan vs japanese

Japan is home to several indigenous groups including the Ryukin people who live in Okinawa perfection. They had their own kingdom, language, culture, religion until Japan took over in 1879 and wiped out their entire identity. Sounds familiar, right? Okinowans were forced to speak standard Japanese. They were taught to view their own culture as univilized and it was in their best interest to assimilate. They were also victims of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II. Traditional Ryuan clothing features flower hat worn by women for dance performances. Ryuan religion was largely femaleled. Only lady priests were allowed to enter sacred places called Utaki for prayer. Okinawa produces a distinct alcohol called arammori which is distilled from long grain rice. Sometimes they’re infused with a poisonous snake which is believed to boost verility. Okinowans are known to have a very long life thanks to their diet filled with vitamin rich food like purple sweet potato melon seafood fish and soy. There’s so much more to their culture and history. So stay tuned.

  1. A coworker tried to explain Juneteenth to a Japanese person, and that person essentially asked, “Why would the USA be so honest about how badly they treated people instead of just keeping it a secret?”

Japan’s still got that dog in them, I see.
