Chiba City Monorail Co., Ltd. (Chibato Monorail) is a track operator that operates a safege-type suspended monorail in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. It is one of the third sector railways established by the third sector method with investment from Chiba City and Chiba Prefecture. The popular name is “Chiba Monorail”. The head office is Inage-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture.
There are two lines: Line 1 that connects Chiba Minato Station to Kencho-mae Station, and Line 2 that connects Chiba Station to Chishirodai Station. The first section, Line 2 Sports Center Station-Senjodai Station, opened on March 28, 1988, and all lines including Line 1 opened on March 24, 1999. The total operating distance of 15.2km is the longest suspension monorail in the world and was certified by the Guinness World Record in 2001.
