Tokyo Japan Day 2 | From Hair Salons to Pokémon Centers and Exploring Shibuya

It’s the trip I’ve been waiting for nearly my whole entire life, and I’m going to be doing you a solid by giving you all of my research upfront. Day two, we took on a challenge. And by we, I mean me. I had the bright idea that I wanted to get a silk press, and I say that loosely, in Japan. And so, well, it really all started when I found this particular hair salon in Manato that’s super popular. And really, I wanted to try their Japanese headspa service. And since this trip was so last minute, I didn’t have time for braids. So, here we are. And I’ll do a whole separate video on this, but it was cute until Japan did its thing. But it worked out. So check back for day three to see just how well it worked out. After my hair appointment, we wanted to seize the rest of our day. And as the nerdy people we were, we couldn’t come to Japan and not immediately see one of the biggest reasons I turned into a lover of Japanese culture. Since the day I was handed my first Game Boy Color, we of course had to go see a real life Pokemon center. And the closest one to us actually happened to be in Shabuya. Now, Shabuya, as you know, is a huge shopping center, and this location is no different. The Pokemon Center, as well as so many other stores, like the Namco store, the Nintendo store, even this Godzilla store, is also located in the Shabuya Park Mall. I mean, this is a fashion lover, gamer, anime lover’s dream. And this is just one place, mind you. Now, by this time, it was late and we were starving. So, we decided to explore and find somewhere to eat. And this took us so long because as you can imagine on this Friday night, places were packed. I mean, I think we went to like four places before we settled on somewhere to eat and there was a little bit of a language barrier even though they had an English menu. So, we definitely had to use our translation apps here and there. Still, this place was a more order as you go type of place, so we actually didn’t really get full, but we didn’t mind because we were so tired and we wanted to go home. So after we ate a little bit, we walked right outside and across the street there was this karaoke. And just listen, guys. Listen. [Applause] [Music] It took my boyfriend about a week to figure out the title of this song. All that was left for us to do was to take the subway back home and casually stop at McDonald’s to see what they have before we finish off our night. So, come back for the day three recap and to hear more about my hair salon review if you too are looking for somewhere to go in Japan.

Day 2 in Tokyo was almost like sensory overload, but I accomplished so much:

– Got my hair cut, washed, and styled at @assorthair by the amazing Haruka
– Walked my ass off through Shibuya
– Conquered the Tokyo subway system 👌🏽
– Explored Shibuya Parco Mall
– Didn’t blow the bank on the first real day

A Few Last tips:
– Top up your suica card for the subway on your iPhone or you’ll need a physical one
– Cosmetic appointments are cheaper here and the quality is so much better so book those hair, nail, spa appointments
– If you do go to Assort Hair Salon, take advantage of the opportunity to see Tokyo Tower – also in Minato or go to Shibuya Sky for a view
– Convenince stores are actually convenient here, take advantage of them
– Google Maps is just fine for getting around and finding food / activities esp if you don’t speak Japanese
– Karaoke is 100% times better in Asia
– If you’re at a restaurant that’s mostly “yakiniku” (jbbq), order a lot of meat!
– Again, I beg, bring amazing walking shoes!
