Yakisoba is a classic Japanese stir fry noodles dish with pork and vegetables, and it’s seasoned with a sweet & savory sauce similar to Worcestershire sauce. Yakisoba is prepared by frying ramen-style wheat noodles with bite-sized pork, vegetables (usually cabbage, onions or carrots) and flavored with yakisoba sauce, salt and pepper. It can be served with a variety of garnishes, such as aonori (seaweed powder), beni shoga (shredded pickled ginger), katsuobushi (fish flakes), and mayonnaise. 焼きそば Yakisoba 焼きそば or Japanese stir fry noodles started to appear in the 1930’s as So-su (= Sauce) Yakisoba (ソース焼きそば), and it was a poplar children’s snack at the mom-and-pop candy stores (dagashi-ya 駄菓子屋 in Japanese) in late 50’s. Since then Yakisoba has been cooked and enjoyed at home and Teishoku-ya (Japanese diners), and became an icon for Japanese street food. 1. Many street food vendors have perfected unique flavor profiles and creativity with their dishes using long-held recipes that use the freshest ingredients. And then there are people like this guy who fries up some chopped cabbage throws bag after bag of packaged noodles on it and then floods it with sauce to try to give it some flavor. Marginally better than what college kids cook up in a dorm room. Why would you even do a video about such a low skill enterprise?

  2. So it’s basically ready made noodles with soy sauce poured on. That’s literally it. If you’re lucky you might get a bit of cabbage in it.

  8. My favorite food from Japan. Had it all the time when I lived there, sad I can't figure out how to make it here in the states. Best comfort food!
