Build Your DREAM Japan Itinerary! – Japan Travel Guide Series

planning a trip to Japan and don’t know where to start whether it’s your first or your fifth time I’m here to help you build your dream Japan itinerary from ancient temples and neon lit cities to stunning natural landscapes including Mount Fiji views Japan has it all let’s build your perfect adventure step by step so let’s get to it first things first when should you go so spring is March to May it’s cherry blossom season it’s an incredible time to visit but it will be more expensive and busy summer is June to August hot and can be wet with monsoon season but is great for festivals autumn is September to November brings stunning nature and cooler weathers and winter is December to February it’s perfect for snow sports and cozy onen towns so let’s talk five essential places to visit number one Tokyo it’s massive high-tech quirky endless shopping and sushi number two is Kyoto a very classic Japan traditional area with temples geishes and tea houses number three is a Saka street food heaven and night life loud and busy on dom number four Hushima the peace memorial park and nearby Myama Island with an amazing shrine number five is Pakone an onen town with views of Mount Fiji so to give you some inspiration on how to fit in the essentials we’ll cover how we spent our 14 days in Japan this series will include a video for each location so we flew into Tokyo directly from Hephro in London we caught the Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo station to Kyoto took about 2 and 1/2 hours spent 4 days in Kyoto and then caught a 40-minute train to Asaka and stayed for three nights where we visited Karashima as part of a day trip from Assaka and the last part of our trip we stayed seven nights in Tokyo spread across two different areas including a visit to the lake district surrounding Mount Fiji Pakone and Lake Caraguchiko so let’s show you how to build this in five simple steps step one is research what you want to do most people start with booking the flights but first you need to know what you want to do and how long you want to stay in each area this is why research is the most important step you can either watch our specific location videos for inspiration on what to see and do you could also review the map of Japan and calculate the difference between places you want to visit the JR calculator can be really helpful for this for example we wanted to visit Harashma which is 2 hours from Aaka we did this as a day trip from Aaka as it was way too long of a journey from Tokyo so you can use Trip Adviser Viata or Get a Guide to have an idea of activities you’d like to see and do and there’s also many Facebook groups providing top tips recommendations of areas to stay and general Japan advice i’ll include in the descriptions the groups we found particularly useful so now you’ve got your list of everything you want to do i’d then split that into must dos and would like to do map these into days so for example our Asaka itinerary look like a day in Universal Studios a day at Maya Shrine and Hushma and then a day for Asaka Castle to Tumble Boy and Shinski based on this we found that three days in a circle would be sufficient so you can either add it straight to an itinerary planner app like Wonder Log which is our favorite to use alternatively Microsoft Word or a notepad would also work if you do this for all the things you want to do it will help you calculate how long you need to spend in each place so the second thing to do is the flights a top tip is we initially use Skyscanner or Google flights to find out where you can fly from and to and also the cheapest dates to fly so on Skyscanner we found that British Airways and Japan Airlines were the only two airlines that flew directly from London to Tokyo other airlines required a stop drop us a comment to share with others any direct flights you found for your local airport step number three is accommodation we always research the areas to stay in our specific location videos we’ll cover the hotels and central locations we stayed in to save you time for example in Asaka we wanted to be close to the station and in Kyoto we wanted to be in walking distance of all attractions now we have a secret to share we also search if there is a Hard Rock Cafe locally as they are usually centrally located for example in Kyoto it’s right by the Gond district and the theater alternatively you can use many travel blogs there are online like the Japan travel blog or Facebook groups based on where people have stayed previously step number four is traveling through Japan so getting around is easier once you know how you could grab yourself a Japan Route Pass if you’re thinking of taking longer trains and it could save you a lot of money you could also get an IC card like a SUR card for local trains and even convenience stores you could download the Navly time Japan travel or Google Maps for easier navigation we’ve made a specific video on the Shinkansen which covers the best seats to book for Mount Fiji View how to book your trains in advance and if we think the JR pass is worth the money so check it out so the last step of our five-step process is to get it booked and add it to an itinerary plan to take with you we’ve tried quite a few itinerary planners and found that Wonder Log is the most intuitive especially for a free version you can add hotels flights trains and activities separately and it links to Google Maps so you can get all the directions to each location so there you have it a five-step process for building your dream Japan itinerary covering the things you want to see and do now if you find this too overwhelming not a problem check out our Japan series where we cover everything we did with our 14 days and make sure
