As part of Luxembourg’s economic mission to Japan, Digitalisation Minister Stéphanie Obertin met with long-standing tech partner NTT to discuss innovation and investment opportunities.

Minister for Digitalisation and Research Stéphanie Obertin toured the pavilion of Japanese tech firm NTT during her visit to the Expo 2025 in Osaka. The company, which has operated in Luxembourg for 30 years, was a key stop on the minister’s economic mission focused on innovation and international exchange.

Strengthening tech ties

Michael Mossal, a representative from NTT, noted that the company is one of Luxembourg’s three major ICT players, employing 250 staff in the Grand Duchy. Since 2019, he said, NTT’s Luxembourg branch has evolved into “a sort of innovation lab for Luxembourg and practically for all of Europe”.

Expo 2025 has provided a platform for exploring emerging technologies and fostering global knowledge-sharing. Minister Obertin praised the event’s detailed presentations, emphasising their value in sparking new ideas for potential applications in Luxembourg.

NTT Luxembourg’s work currently centres on data spaces – structured systems for collecting, exchanging, and regulating data in line with EU standards – as well as advancements in artificial intelligence. The talks with Japanese partners also aimed to attract further investment from Japan.

Academic partnerships explored

Before arriving in Osaka, the Luxembourg delegation spent time in Tokyo, where discussions were held with Japanese research institutions and the University of Sofia. Minister Obertin highlighted the importance of academic collaboration, noting that exchanges with students and researchers could enhance higher education and create new learning opportunities.

Expo 2025 continues in Osaka until 13 October.
