WASHINGTON — U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will meet with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Japan on Friday, but does not plan to discuss tariffs, even as Japanese negotiators seek to break the impasse with Washington.
Bessent, one of the three top U.S. tariff negotiators, landed in Japan on Thursday night, his first visit to the country since taking office. After meeting with Ishiba, the secretary and his delegation will head to World Expo 2025 in Osaka to attend the U.S. National Day event on Saturday.
