⁴ᴷ Hokkaido: Otaru Station (北海道: 小樽駅) – Japan Walking Tour (July, 2025)

To begin my journey around almost the entire island of Hokkaido, I took an 18-hour ferry ride and landed in Tomakomai. From there, the trip around Hokkaido truly began.

This time, I traveled from Chitose, passed through Sapporo, and arrived in the city of Otaru. While Otaru is best known for its picturesque canal area, I decided to explore a different side of the city. Starting from Otaru Station, I walked through a covered shopping arcade and headed toward the nightlife district.

Along the narrow alleys, I found rows of small snack bars and retro-style buildings, preserving a strong Showa-era atmosphere. The shopping street was also decorated with lanterns—perhaps in preparation for the Tanabata Festival—which added a festive touch to the nighttime scenery.
