Pokemon toys and cards will start appearing at McDonald’s in Japan from early August 2025. The toys will be available from the 8th, while the cards will be available from the 9th to the 11th.
While you can only get a Pikachu or a Charmander toy, there are five different cards to receive at random. You can receive either a Sprigatito, a Fuecoco, a Quaxly, a Ralts, or a Riolu. Everyone will also get a Pikachu card. These cards have the McDonald’s logo at the bottom right of the picture. Otherwise, they’re existing cards from the TCG. The Pikachu, however, is an exclusive card that features the Pokemon looking excitedly at a burger combo. The effect is the same as the existing Pikachu card in the TCG, though.
Most of the top comments on the post express worry about scalpers who might ruin the experience for average fans or children. In 2023, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam announced a collaboration with The Pokemon Company, with an exclusive Pikachu card available for purchase. However, the card quickly sold out, and scalpers listed it on sites like eBay with a huge markup. Some cards went for hundreds of dollars. The McDonald’s Japan post did not note if it would limit purchases of Happy Meals to curb resellers from monopolizing the exclusive Pikachu card.
