S/ Reporter/ What appears to be the marks of the man being dragged clearly remains on the residential premises here and the adjacent road.
A bear fatally attacked a paper delivery man in a Hokkaido town on July 12 around 3AM.
S/ Witness/ I heard a loud scream and when I looked out the window I saw a bear dragging and swinging around a person and then going into the bushes.
The man was pulled 30 meters away from the attack site into a field and had scratch marks on his entire body along with bites around his abdomen.
The bear that appeared to be 1.5 meters long has yet to be found.
S/ Narumi Kiyoharu, Fukushima Mayor/ We are first and foremost working to find and exterminate the bear.
A bear was also seen in the town two days prior to the attack; however, it is unknown whether it is the same bear.
The town continues to secure the area with 24-hour police patrol while the prefecture has issued a one-month bear warning for the entire town.
