KYOTO Food Guide 2025 | 14 Places to Eat & Drink (With Prices!)

[Music] hey everyone fancy seeing you here and welcome to Kyoto in this video we’ll be showing you everything that we ate in this beautiful city filled with tradition and we might have been here only just for a few days but we hope that you find this list useful for your future endeavors so let’s go let’s start our day right with this amazing neighborhood spot Nita Bakery the Japanese truly give the French a run for their money when it comes to paces and you can definitely see why here with their tempting selection of baked goods so of course like any good bonger we got their croissant which was incredibly flaky and buttery and this chocolate and black Cur pastry was simple but deliciously flavored their unle butter sandwich is a unique and decadent combination of sweet red bean with very generous slices of butter and I love the way it just melts into the fluffy yet crisp bread they also do savories so of course we got an egg and ham sand that was simple yet comforting and a sausage sandwich with zucchini and tomato that cured my Savory craving walking Kyoto’s philosopher’s path will really make you stop and think and so why not fuel up your mind with some delicious soba at this humble neighborhood eery Ichigo soba they start you off with both a green tea and tamagoyaki but they also do the most beautiful lunch sets that have an insane amount of variety like this cold SOA set that I got with refreshing dipping sauce for the soba crispy tempora prawns and veggies Odin prawn cocktail and even this interesting melon jelly dessert we AG got their lunch special but this time with hot soba in a light broth and a gorgeous plate filled with everything in the food pyramid from tuna Sashimi marinated fish and riced crispy tempura Odin and pickles my doctor is going to be really happy about this meal cuz it’s just full of wholesome and vibrant foods that wasn’t [Music] me one of the reasons why I love ramen so much is cuz it has so many Regional variations within Japan so had to try some Kyoto Sal Ramen at Kyoto Ramen kinzan Kyoto Sal Ramen is made with a Shou based broth and here their broth is made with pork meat and Bone simmered for hours and infused with fat throughout to make for a rich and soothing broth it comes topped with tender and Smoky chachu bamboo shoot bean sprouts and I added extra gooey eggs for some extra Pizzazz and let me tell you eating this on a rainy day in Kyoto healed a part of my soul you can also get their special Ramen that has a darker soy sauce broth which was Elite and comes with even more chashu pork and for good measure we also munch on some plump yoza that was nicely charred and went well with some vinegar this was a top tier Robin spot if specifically visiting a place just cuz you share a name classified as narcissistic then call me Kanye baby cuz that’s exactly why you visited AG coffee just a few minutes away from the higashiyama temple this is a quaint little coffee shop that sourcers their matcha from Kyoto itself and they do a variety of drinks and bites but we just stopped over for a cooling and decently strong double shot ice latte and this hypnotic HOA latte top with edible Silver Leaf the drinks were high quality and it was a welcome relief from the outdoors I’d love to come back here and try their food and more of their [Music] drinks it was pretty hot and humid when we visited Kyoto but luckily to alleviate some of our sweat we stumbled upon keu stand just off the main tour strip of s and zaka not ke for our Samons over there they do some unique drinks not just limited to your standard coffee like the sweet and citrusy Yuzu espresso tonic that had a good balance of bitterness and sweetness and aliana’s coffee cherry soda that balanced the Sweet Cherry and bitter coffee flavors perfectly with some f is to make it more exciting don’t miss a chance to take a break from the crowds of fellow tourists with a stop over here once you’ve had your fix of walking through the vibrant toy Gates and admiring the cats at Fushimi inar Shrine make sure to refresh yourself with a coffee from Vermillion espresso don’t let the hordes of fellow tourists here detract you cuz their drinks here are topnotch I got a flat white that would make even a Welling tonyan Barista proud although if there was some cute latte heart it’d be perfect and of course we couldn’t pass up a Macha latte cuz we are in Kyoto after all and this was delicious bonus points cuz they use New Zealand designed Acme cups shout out [Music] Wellington if you’re around the kium miza temple and want some delicious matcha and pastries then go here yes as in this place is called here we got here right as they opened at 8:30 but just as the streets quickly filled with tourists this spot filled up quick too but that didn’t stop us from enjoying some smooth and sweet matcha lattes both hot and Ice Kyoto is the city for matcha after all so we had to stay on theme we also got a simple croissant which was surprisingly buttery and Flaky and made for the perfect dippy dip moment with the matcha but this gluten-free omelette was quite interesting and delicious it was to with candied pecans and filled with a smooth matcha cream you can never really get enough matcha in Kyoto while you’re around roaming the streets on sadan zaka why not hit up geeka beijin for a Chiki mitashi Dango moment it’s actually just opposite the famous Starbucks that’s in a traditional house and this glutenous rice ball coated with a sweet soy glaze made for a fantastic snack when you’re in Kyoto visiting the Nishiki Market is a non-negotiable it is nicknamed Kyoto’s kitchen after all and here in this five block long alley you can find every food Under the Sun from barbecue seafood and tempura to preserves sweets and alcohol but even even if the prices are a bit higher here because it’s so touristy you can’t deny that the famous 100 yen sakei shots you’ll see thoughted across the market is quite the value for money you can either choose a sweet or dry sake but best of all is pairing these with some tempura from the nearby stalls we got the squid timura and Conger eel that wasn’t the greatest timura but it did the job just remember though it is only your first shot that’s 100 yen or I don’t know just bring a disguise or something and buy another one and while you’re here why not try out sabaz Zushi as well from hatanaka show saboi is kind of like an old school Sushi where instead of freshly sliced fish you’ll have a lightly pickled mackerel as a way to preserve the fish it’s a simple but fascinating part of sushi history and I also randomly tried this garlic and pepper fish that was also quite decent oh and did you know this stall was also featured in somebody feed Phil shout out Phil Rosenthal uh we’ll take you around to Oakland if you ever see this video we also grabbed a bunch of Mochi treats from Nishiki kuko cuz the display was just too enticing they come in a variety of flavors such as plain Mochi and red bean yomogi or mug wart and red bean brown sugar Mochi and red bean strawberry da fuku and uh red bean and even this Grinch looking Green Tea cake filled with well you guessed it red bean is that red bean again red bean aside all of these were wonderful and I highly recommend you to make a stop over here and bonus points if you pair it with a matcha beer from one of the liquor stalls in the market to end our Nishiki Market Journey we got another mitashi dangu from RE this one is a bit more expensive than the one we had previously but it was more plump and coated in a Saucier and smokier sauce that was delicious if you’re looking for a comforting bowl of udon then meno miosi has got you this restaurant has a history dating back to 1926 and they do a wide variety of udon set meals like my mioshi set which comes with bouncy Udo noodles fish cakes shitake mushrooms vegetables rice pickles all in a delicate broth that had a warming and Mild Seafood flavor but as a contrast Kua a got this voluptous zetu Curry udon with this gigantic piece of crispy prawn tempura the curry sauce was incredibly luscious and packed a punch of flavor the way the curry sauce coated each thick strand of udon was mesmerizing sucks to be vegetarian though cuz all their udon uses fish in their broth Japanese Curry is a must eat when you’re in Japan and Curry and tempura kisis might just do the prettiest Japanese Curry sets we waited in line for an hour but they do take your order beforehand although you can only really choose between their normal spice curry and vegan curry this Curry that almost looks like modern art is undoubtedly beautiful and comes with two types of curries separated by a wall of rice and you can even choose to add some delicious tempura that also comes with much OFA this isn’t the cheapest curry in the world and although we could barely tell the difference between the two curries it’s still tasted pretty decent although we wish it had come with at least more meat in the [Music] curry we were craving some yucky toy when we first ared in Kyoto and our accommodation host recommended this spot called toy say it’s an intimate space where you can see the chef in action cook your delicious food they do a simple selection of well executed dishes starting with this grilled eggplant coated in an Umami miso glaze caraga chicken crumb to Perfection that coated such succulent Chicken on the inside and sweet and slightly spicy shishito Peppers that were so addicting but of course their barbecued chicken is great we got chicken heart because it’s Loki one of our favorite chicken parts to eat and this toyi with succulent chicken thigh sandwich between pieces of green onion I’m glad they even have a bunch of spices for you to to customize each bite and it makes the amazing barbecue here pair even better with some drinks like any good Yakitori experience should have Keon may be famous for the gishes that roam its streets full of beautiful traditional houses but it’s also home to gon Kori an iconic dessert shop house in a remodeled Riverside tea house they specialize in wobe Machi which isn’t the Machi that you’re used to because this is made with Bracken starch which results in a more jellylike texture and taste we chose their green tea w b Moi that is coated in a fine green tea powder and served with a mildly sweet brown sugar syrup called kuroitsu It’s So satisfying pouring the kuroitsu on the wachi I mean look at that hydrophobic effect their wobe Mai parfait was gorgeous it’s got so many layers from green tea jelly wab Mai cake red bean and a big dollop of matcha ice cream for good measure each element worked so well with each other to make for quite the Epic and refreshing dessert for our last meal in Kyoto it was only fitting we ended it with a barrage of Mach desserts at Shimizu ioen this is a quaint shop that specializes in matcha based Desserts and Drinks starting with their decadent foamed matcha latte the Macha latte itself was already thick and smooth enough but the matcha cream on top took it to the next level if you’re feeling something toastier they also do a foamed hicha latte I mean this was equally as good in its own Smoky way we also got this super creamy machaon top with a delicate and glossy caramel on top I mean just look at how smooth that is we pair the fla with much ice cream that was pretty decent and if that wasn’t enough matcha we just said screw it let’s just get their foam matcha shaved ice too cuz why not I love how the light ice just melts in your mouth with a slightly sweet matcha flavor I wouldn’t be surprised if our insides turned completely green after this meal Kyoto may be most well known for its famous temples and Shrine but Japan’s cultural capitals biggest treasure is truly its amazing food scene and we can’t wait to explore more of what Kyoto has to offer and if you want to see more of our food and travel adventures in Kyoto
