I Found The best train viewing spots in Tokyo

Do you like trains? Many people seem
to be fascinated by them. It’s not just about convenience. There’s something about watching a
giant iron box move through the city. And Tokyo is one of the best cities to enjoy watching Japanese
trains. Today, let’s discover a few unique and cozy spot around the city where you can watch
Tokyo’s train from different angles from above and below. This time, I’d like to skip the station
platforms. And also one more rule, the train must be in operation, no museums. First, let’s start
from Shinjuku. Hello friends. Today I’d like to find the best spot to see the trains in Tokyo
except the platform of the train. Shinjuku is where the old trains gathered and where JR East
headquarter is. There are many places you can see trains. But let’s go to see the bridge called
Oguard where you can see many trains pass by. This is a elevated pedestrian walk and you can see
the train crossing of the Shinjuku. Here you can film kind of epic scene with the Kabukicho, stores
all the night scene at night and also train going by so frequently and right now Yamanote
line is going by. So I’ve been just standing here for like a 2, 3 minutes and already lots of
train passing by. About 2,000 trains pass by on this bridge every day. And this is a Omekaido
Street under here. And after that bridge, it will change to the Yasakuni Street.
And if you see at the other side, it’s Nishi Shinjuku’s building. So now I
came down to the street. First place is a spot you can take good pictures. You see
the Omoideyokocho, the famous drinking alleys on the right side. And if you keep going, you can see
the Kabukicho. It’s a very cloudy day. So nice. You across here you see Omoideyokocho, the drinking alley. So if you enter you can see the
train. So let’s go to the next now. Do you think this is a great place to
see trains? I think it’s a great spot that you can see frequent train going into Shinjuku
Station, in the background of the busy streets of Shinjuku. Before we move on, there’s another
place that you can see the great view of this Oguard. So second floor to fourth floor has a seat
by the window and fourth floor is the best one. Now let’s go to south side of Shinjuku
station near Minami Shinjuku Station crossing line of the Odakyu Line. This is
also a famous spot that it doesn’t open once it close. Here we go – the train
Rapid Express to Shinjuku just arrived. So this is the entrance to Shinjuku Station
and separate to all the next one is coming but now it’s closed again. Because there
are five tracks from three above and two underground merges here and goes towards west
to Hakone – Enoshima direction. Odakyu is a private railway connecting from Shinjuku Station
to Enoshima and Odawara. There are about 330 trains every day from the Shinjuku terminal
Odakyu line. That means at least this crossing has to close 670 times every day. Odakyu’s Romance Car from Hakone. It came from Hakone Yumoto station. The problem this train crossing is
it takes so long once it goes. So as you see some car turn to take another
route. But for fan it’s a fun place to see. And now let’s go to the next destination. Ochanomizu Station. It start to sprinkle a little bit. And from this bridge you can see the subway Marunouchi Line comes out to the ground and Chuo Line and Sobu Line crossing over there. So it’s very Tokyo
like scenery. So let’s wait for the train. Now let’s try to go down the street
and film from different angle. Ah, maybe we can go down this. This is Yushima Seido Temple. So that’s is where I was earlier and this is a little more lower point. Now let’s see if subway comes. Down here there’s another street and
more close to Kanda River and the bridge. So you can see the different angle of the
bridge. Looks like the cruise of Tokyo – Nihonbashi Cruise it says. Let’s walk down to Akihabara. Now I came out of Akihabara Station and one good spot to see the train is the
McDonald right outside the station. This McDonald’s in front of Akihabara Station is a
perfect spot when you want to eat something or snack something and see trains. You can see
the Tohoku Shinkansen Hokuriku Shinkansen passing by in front. This is a great place if you like trains
and eat something when you’re in Akihabara, especially when you’re with children.
But seats cannot be guaranteed and it’s a little difficult to see train. So let’s
do not count this place as a number four. ‘Please stand clear of the closing doors.’
I arrived at Oji Station Kitatopia Building by Kita City of Tokyo. And here there’s
a spot you can see train. So let’s see. City of Kita This one. Wow. Wow. I see all over Tokyo
actually. It’s Tokyo. I see shinkansen. Wow. This is a Askayama Park and this is
the Oji Shrine that I introduced before, and there’s a shinkansen on
this most left tracks. So I can see Tokyo Sky Tree
and city center of Tokyo. is Tokyo Tower and this way I can see
Shinjuku and Ikebukuro. This a Sunshine City in the middle. The tower is Sunshine City.
This is a little ride of Askayama Park. This is Oku’s storage space for the trains. Shinkansen. That’s a very nice view. Haven’t seen the
view from this direction of Tokyo. So, but very refreshing. So, I arrived Nippor Station. This
is known for the neighborhood called Yanaka. This place called Shimogoinden Bashi Bridge and
you can see lots of different trains. It’s a very popular kind of famous spot among train lovers.
So, let’s wait for the train. What’s great about making this video is that usually I had to skip
trains because not everyone is interested in it. But I can keep staring at the trains. But
still, I have to go to the next spot. So far, which spots do you like? Please let me know
in the comments. I see Keisei Line just arrived. And this behind us is a uh Yanaka
area that an old town of Tokyo. Right in fron of Nippori Station. Endless. Every time I try to leave say I hear the sound
of the train. Oh, I had to go back. I had to go back. I know I can leave here. So maybe time
to move on. Let’s go to next destination. Ueno. ‘The next station is Ueno – JJ 1.’ I arrived Ueno Station and I came out from
the Iriya Exit of Ueno Station. Even though Ginza Line subway they have home door
now. So you really cannot see the whole body of the train now. But there’s a place you can see
but only really limited time of the day. So I remember I’m not sure if it’s good timing or not.
Ueno Yard of Tokyo Metro Ginza Line is a rare place that you can see the subway crossing the street.
But the problem is there’s no official time table when it comes out. Ueno is not the first station
of the Ginza line. So it’s easy to imagine that uh let’s find a train starting from Ueno and
in this English time table it translate fast probably it’s not a right translation but
it means it’s starting in Ueno towards Shibuya direction. But the problem is the according to
the internet information it leaves every day different time because they have the yard
in the above ground and underground and underground is bigger so the time train
comes out is different every day. Oh, the train is approaching toward this side. Train
now coming close to close to the door. Wow. And the reason many kids are gathering here
is a Tokyo Metro person comes out and gives a little card with timetable train comes out
from here only to the kids. So really right there there’s Ueno Station. So train
goes enter and goes. So this left side is a train yard of the Ginza
Line. I wonder if I can see inside from somewhere. Maybe this way. Just in case I went
around but 360° it’s covered so you cannot see the train. Maybe for security reason. Ueno once used to be the terminal from northern
Japan, but now it lost status as a terminal, but it’s a rare place in Tokyo that
you see the old terminal atmosphere. Here, you can see the double layer of
Joban Line train upstairs and go up. From Ueno tohere. It was so busy and I couldn’t
film but I got off at this station called Sekiya of Keisei Line and right in front of the Tobu Line’s Ushida
Station. So from here I like to take Tobu Line. So we at one 2 3 4 5 6 station from Asakusa. Rivety pass by. I arrived at the Kanegafuchi Station. I hear you can
see the train and the Tokyo symbol together. So let’s see. So I came above the river bank of
Arakawa River. I hear it’s the best spot that you can see the Tokyo Sky Tree and the Tobu
trains. But do you think it’s a good place? It’s a great view, but it’s not that great
view. So maybe I’d like to go at more closer to Sky Tree instead of waiting here for the
night view. Okay, let’s get to Asakusa direction. Spacia X just passed by. From here I’d like to go to
the last destination today. Now I see Yurikamome over there and this
is a deck in front of Hamamatsucho Station that you can see different
train. So let’s go up here. So, we saw Tohoku Shinkansen earlier, but we didn’t see Tokaido Shinkansen going to Kyoto and Osaka yet.
So, this is a good spot I thought of. Here you can see Tokyo Monorail going to Haneda Airport. So I hope you can njoy the train view
and I hope you can visit someday.

Today I’d like to find the best train view spots in Tokyo. For any train lovers or children, it will be a unique way to spend a time in Tokyo, Japan.

  1. Thank you Ken! Something to look forward to in another trip as a photography hobbyist. This past trip two weeks ago, I just took photos from the platform. Would definitely try these different viewpoints next time. Also wanted to thank you for your past video on Green cars on the JR local lines. We used it for Chuo Line! Green JR Pass is valid (just showed it to the conductor).

  2. Thanks, excellent episode! I know of the first few shinjuku, akihabara, ochanomizu. Didn't know about the oji high rise building nor the ueno ginza subway one!

One of the easiest that tourist can go is probably the kitte building at Tokyo station to see all the trains and shinkansen!

  3. Hello Ken san, thank you for this new video. There were some very cool viewing spots in this video. My favourite site you showed was the Ueno one, watching the train cross the road up close was very cool! Love your work please keep it up!

  4. The Ochanomizu spot is my favourite. Also this video made me realise it's time for me to visit the railway Museum at Omiya next time i visit Japan.
Trains are really cool and i will always choose train over plane if possible, even if it's slower and sometime, especially in Japan, more costly.
I've motion sickness, either in Plane or in car, but this doesn't happen in Train! So it's another good reason for me to use train.

Thanks for the video, they are a lot of things i didn't know!

  5. So cool to see you at Shimogo Inden Bridge. I cross there every day for work and I was just speaking to a local about it an hour ago! Only yesterday there were about 50 people there trainwatching at 9am, and still about 30 people at 5pm 😅.

  6. It was relaxing to have lunch at McDonalds below Miyashita Park and watch the trains go buy at the window seat.

  7. I went to the Ochanomizu station like you told me about a while back! I got a beautiful video of two lines crossing at sunset with perfect lighting. It’s so thrilling to see the trains. We don’t have so much here in San Francisco

  8. Thank you Kengo. I love the trains in Japan and Tokyo so I appreciate showing a couple of spots I wasn't aware of. I will be taking photos at Hamamatsucho station on my next visit!!!

  9. there is a bridge over the lines at Ikebukuro that was a good spot to see the trains. i crossed it a few times when i was there in Feb. its fairly straight so you get a good tunnel like view.

  10. Question you did this in one day? I’m going in December I’m thinking just going out random places to take photos..

  11. This is an interesting "downtime " activity whilst snacking or having a warm cup of coffee. Beats scrolling down in the phone!
