Why KRABI Thailand is a MUST Visit!

[Music] Hey everybody, welcome to Special Spice. Today we kick off our Thailand series by traveling from Bangkok to Krabby to visit the gorgeous, quaint, and car-free Riley Beach. We’ll explore the seaside community, try some Thai foods and drinks, and end the night by watching the sun go down at one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. So, come along and let’s have some fun. [Applause] [Music] So, we just arrived in Bangkok, Thailand after 30 hours. We’re at the Ozone Airport Lodge Hotel Riviera. First morning in B. Woohoo. Nice and warm. Wow. It’s 7:20 in the morning and it’s about 90°. Good morning, Bangkok. We’re going to go to breakfast right here. That’s our room. Our entire little house. Thank you. Oh, so pretty. We’re going to Sunrise Cafe right across the way. Had about 3 4 hours of sleep. Yum. All right, we got fried eggs, americano, croissant, boas, some rice, some rice, and we’re learning our simple Thai kapuna. That means thank you at Sunrise Cafe. Nice spot. Really gorgeous little spot. Steps away from our room. Off to the airport we go. The other airport in Bangkok to head to Krabby. They apparently call Bangkok the Venice of Asia. Yeah, I know. I know. Calling things the Venice of blank is a little bit overused. Yeah. But basically, there are a lot of canals here, which is interesting. And I noticed a Flintstones car over there. Oh my gosh, how funny. So, we are packing out and we ordered a Grab. So, in a lot of parts of Asia, they don’t have Uber or Lift, but they have Grab and it is their taxi service through an app. And they also have traditional taxis as well for those folks who don’t want to do this this modern app business. [Music] [Applause] [Music] We’re at DMK. This is the other international airport in Bangkok, but this is a great spot for domestic flights on the more budget airlines within Thailand. So, we got like a $20 flight to Krabby. Yeah, very large airports. Very clean, very calm. We’re going to No Air Bangkok to Krabby. I’m assuming this is the wife of the king. Their current king has been king since 2016. Uh in 2016, their previous king, Bumobo, he was very popular. He was 88 years old and he passed away then. So the country was in mourning for a year and now they have their new king. Do have a parliamentary system after the 30s where they had a revolution. But yeah, there’s still a governing king here. Interesting. So, we are at Coffee Club in the DMK airport. They have I’ve noticed a lot of espresso orange and espresso coconut. Lots of coconut water and orange juice drinks with either their espresso or matcha. Spicy tip, don’t lose your headphones or else you have to buy more. And they’re not cheap. They’re not cheap here. There’s lots of affordable things in Thailand, but noise cancelling headphones are not one of them. We reached Krabby International Airport and we’re having some phone data issues. We’re about to get a taxi over to a boat and then a boat to Raleigh Beach. [Music] [Applause] [Music] So, we took a grab over here to Al Namo Pier. here. And this is one of the spots to catch a boat to Raleigh Beach. So, it’s a cute area here. Little shops, cafes, beautiful scenery around here. The towering limestone cliffs are amazing. We are excited. Look at that water. Awesome. So, the boat wasn’t scheduled till 3:00 p.m., but we had enough people to fill a boat. Wow, that is green. That is emerald. So cool. So, we had enough people to fill a boat, so get to get on a little sooner. It almost The water matches your backpack, Mo. It’s It’s like the way I like it. Nice. It’s like blue green, but not exactly turquoise. Yeah. [Music] really cool. Well, these are called longtail boats. [Music] Right here. Here we go. [Music] [Music] [Music] All right, Mo, we’ve arrived Raleigh. I am so excited. [Music] So cool. The jungle sounds. Beautiful. Excited to explore this more. We’re going to drop off our bags first at Avatar Rally. This Too cool. So, Raleigh West has an amazing beach, but the hotel options were limited. So, we’re staying in Raleigh East, which is near the boat pier, so it’s convenient for boat transportation. Not the best beach-wise. We’re not going to be chilling here, but you have access 5-minute walk over to the Raleigh West Beach. All right, this is where we are staying. Avatar Raleigh. We have karaoke. Nice. It’s pretty red. We’re checking in at Habitat. They gave us some coffee. No, I think it’s actually um hibiscus. Hibiscus juice. It’s so good. They also just warned us about the monkeys. They’re everywhere and they know how to open the doors. Always lock the door. Monkeys know how to open the doors and they like to take things. It sounds like Jurassic Park. Yeah. In Thailand so far, they like to show you to your room, which is very nice. Very gentle, hospitable people. Warm. But yeah, these grounds are awesome. They said the monkeys are out all day. And here’s a pool. Wow. We got a villa. Wow. Cuz why not? Hey, was that our own private entrance? Uh-huh. Our own private entrance down there. Oops. We’re in the trees. Oh my. Wow. Wow. So nice. This is the biggest room I’ve seen in Asia. Not going to lie. But look at this. High ceilings, gorgeous balcony that starts here and it literally wraps around. Floor to ceiling windows. A TV right there. Look at this huge bed. My gosh. Tyler is settling in because it has taken us what? did eight modes of transportation to get to this room. So, we did a car to LAX, a plane to Seoul, a plane from Seoul to Bangkok. Bangkok, a grab car to our hotel last night, a grab car this morning, and then a plane to Krabby and then um grab car to the boat pier. And then the boat my favorite mode of all the boat from from Nam Mount. Yeah. Pier to here. So eight modes and we made it. Worth it. My gosh. The balcony keeps going. And look at this. Wow. We have our own tub and a desk. What a dream of a place. And we’re going island hopping tomorrow. We’re going to see that in real life. And then this is the little closet area and the bathroom. The toilet was actually over there on the other side. Its own little water closet room. Look at this. Really cool. And then the shower. This is by far one of the nicest rooms I’ve ever stayed in and a very reasonable price for, you know, of course for the American dollar. Yeah, it was about 80 USD per night. It also has a little fridge and mini bar. So, my gosh, I’m so grateful to be staying here for four nights. Here we go. We’re going to check out this area of Raleigh Beach and find some food. Nice little walking street here. Connects to the main walking street. Look at those hills right there. So cool. Wow. You get to the corner here. They call this monkey corner, but no monkeys currently. There’s a cave this way. We’ll do that later. There’s a monitor lizard that’s huge back there. I think so. That’s rad. Wow. Cool. I had a toy monitor lizard as a kid. It was like one of my favorite toys. Yeah. I don’t know if it’s Toys R Us, but it was like a a big plastic figurine. We were noticing they have a lot of Thai cooking glasses all over the place. Man, this is so cool. And whenever you look up, you see limestone cliffs. Oh, some paddle boards. Stellar view right here. [Music] They have a lot of guide maps around. Very helpful. Not too big though. There’s Raleigh East and Raleigh West. Raleigh West has the famous popular beach. Wow. [Music] if you need a pharmacy, take care clinic. And then here’s the main walking street with restaurants, shops, etc. Lots of bars popping at night. Cocoa 2004. That was the best here. And they’re really into reggae here. There’s a couple of reggae bars. I noticed Oh, yeah. Thai pancake. You’re familiar with Yeah. King Climbers. So, lots of rock climbing around here. Tattoo studio. Tattoo massage. Oh, yes. A fun. More reggae. Ooh, stand up paddle board. Probably will end up doing that. Oh, I like the second story. Yeah, they have fun second story seating on a lot of these spots. Can imagine at night this place popping. Setting up for live music. Lots of live music in Thailand. A lot of cover bands. Insanely gorgeous here. And then some prime real estate. Just lush overgrown. We’ve seen some cats around. Neighborhood cats. And we just passed Jamaica bar. So more reggae, more Jamaica. Wow, this tree is really cool. If you want to drink in a boat right there. Yeah, definitely. It’s like a hippie vibe. I did not expect Raleigh Beach to have hippie vibes. And look at this view. And the weather’s pleasant. It’s in the 80s. Not as hot as I expected. And we have made it to Raleigh Beach West. Little windy. Beautiful spot. See some rain clouds in the distance, but we have not seen rain yet this whole day. Raleigh Beach Cafe. I’m excited. We have a nice view and I’m going to get some pad thai. Time for some Thai food. Our food just came. I got spicy pima with shrimp, a passion fruit smoothie, some fresh muscles with lime, and Tyler got some pai with shrimp and a mango smoothie. The view ain’t bad. And the beach is nice, too. [Music] How was dinner, Mo? Delightful. I mean, can’t argue with that. What do you think of Raleigh so far? Oh, it’s beautiful. It’s calm for a beach town, but it is also what, a Tuesday night, and everyone is kind and gentle like we’ve been experiencing. It’s gorgeous. So happy to be here. [Music] Now we’re back at Raleigh East getting close to sunset. We noticed Raleigh East the water is a lot calmer but not too beachy. Not many beaches. All right, let’s go. So, there’s this little path here walking south from Raleigh East and really cool caves and formations here. And then we’ll get to Pranang Beach in a moment and probably see the sunset over there. The rocks are epic. Haven’t seen a rock climber yet. They probably do it what early morning. Yeah. So, the rocks stay kind of cool cuz the longer they stay out in the sun, the warmer the rocks get. And it’s not very fun to grip on something that’s kind of warmed out. That makes sense. [Music] Oo, hear that? [Music] On Raleigh East, some of the loudest things we actually hear are things we can’t see. We think they’re cicas. It’s like a slow and steady and gradually getting louder hiss and then it just dies down. Can you hear that? Oh my goodness. So beautiful. [Music] I see some rock climbing gear up there. So this is a good map right here. So, we are staying around here, Avatar Raleigh. And then the walking street, which we were on earlier, goes through here. And then we just saw Raleigh West, where we had dinner and drinks right here. And now we’re coming around this way over to Pranang Beach. So, it’s uh only accessed on foot. They say it gets busy between 10:30 and 4:30 from the day trippers, the people taking the boat tours, but now that it’s after that, probably just some people hanging out to watch the sunset. Fun. So, that’s pretty much it. This is this is the Raleigh Beach area. Um, there’s a cave we’ll check out at some point. There’s two caves actually. Diamond Cave and Oh, yeah. Princess Cave. We’ll probably see Princess Cave tonight. Nice. Just finding corners of the world like this. Such a treat. I know. Love it. Wow. This is just the walk. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Like I’ve seen like limestone in caves before, but when it’s just like one of the like three main pathways of the town, it’s just cool to bump up against them. Yeah. Like look at this. This was definitely an indoor cave once and now it is exposed. What is that? Stellagtites or stellagmites. And the top of this looks very pink and there’s a whole lot of holes. Whole lot of holes. Wow. Oh man, my imagination is just freaking out. I’ve seen so many horror movies. This is called Raleigh Princess Way Caves. Wow. Princess Way Caves. So cool. My goodness. There are some really crazy just like baby caves on this walk. Wow. [Music] What a magical walkway. [Music] This one is to help you not smack into it as you’re walking, but there was definitely one where it was to help you notice it cuz it was hanging so low. Oh my goodness melting. Yeah. Okay. Truly, when we were boating over here, I was saying to myself, how can’t you just imagine like a pterodactyl flying out from one of those cliffs? And then our receptionist, she was telling us how the monkeys know how to open the doors, so you have to lock them. And all I could think of was just Jurassic Park and that velociraptor opening the door. And you turn and oh my gosh, [Music] this is paradise. Yeah, this is great. Even though there’s still some wind and waves, seems like a great spot. So, it’s above with the waves in the water. Yes. Much less windy than Raleigh West. Oh my. And then if you turn, look at that. Princess Cave. So, we’re about to check out Princess Cave. And out of respect for cuz it is like a sacred site, we’re not going to talk when we’re there. We’ll just do a quick record. Um, but it’s a cave that represents fertility. So, people who need help with fertility could like make an offering there and it’s supposed to help with those things. So, um, but it’s very like if you remove anything, it’s like very bad luck. So before you hit Princess Cave, if you look up, can you see the rock climbing gear that’s up there? There’s actually a sign that said, “Beware of rock climbers.” So it could definitely be an active site for rock climbing. So watch your head. [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Wow, this is perfect. This will be a perfect place to just hang out all day for our beach day. just claim a spot, be in the water most of the time. It’s more peaceful than Raleigh West and yeah, perfect spot to bob with the waves. [Music] [Music] stealing my heart. So, I have not touched the water yet, but I read that it’s 85° F, which is quite warm. So, I’m excited to try it soon. What a beautiful view. [Music] There is this monster of a rock. And there is actually a little beach on that rock. Can you see it? Doesn’t this place also kind of look like a Mario game cuz of these round Yeah. rocks. So that that’s the backside of the Raleigh West rock that we were capturing earlier. So Raleigh West is on the other side of that. Oh wow. But you can’t really you can only access it by either, you know, swimming or boat or or you have to cut through the other way. I see. So that’s one thing that’s cool around here is a lot of the beaches are separate from each other. It’s not like a long continuous beach. So when you like stumble into a beach, it feels like ah this this new not undiscovered, but it feels more like secluded even though there’s tons of people. We just noticed that there’s a film crew here. They have some fancy cameras and the blue stools over there. And that right there is to block light for their filming. So interesting. Some sort of filming happening. So that’s a little monitor so that they can see the shot that they’re getting and whether or not they like it. We got to go again. Nice hat. Sunset is happening, obscured slightly by clouds. Beautiful. And that little island there is called K Rang Nak. And we were noticing how you could easily swim from this beach to the small beach on the other side. So, we’ll we’ll probably do that. This spot is very sleek with the bar right next to the caves and rocks. Well lit. Oh, the grotto. Very cool. I love that they have a cave all beautifully lit and a live music offering tonight. Yes. Get that. Where are we, Tyler? So, we didn’t plan to come here, but it just looked so nice tucked by this cave. So, it’s called the Brano. And what’s cool is it’s pretty hard to find craft beer in Thailand. Um, but they do have from Full Moon Brewery in Phuket. They have a couple of IPAs that we’re going to try. And they also have a Thai Jin from Krabby that we’re also trying. Yes, it’s called Kilo. And the two IPAs we’re trying are Chhatri and Sele cold IPA. I’m so excited. Look at this view. A glowing cave behind us with music, live music, and the beach with the waves breaking right next to us. There’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here, right now. Right now. This is the cold IPA. And then you got Chhatri. I like the bottles. And this is a brewery from Phuket Full Moon. Yeah, looks fun. And then Tyler got Chhatri IPA, which I’m not really sure what the h what’s happening there, but that’s koala, but it’s fun. So, the Thai phrase for cheers is chonga, which means touch glasses. How appropriate. Chonga. Oh, that’s delicious. Tastes much better by the And man coast. [Music] Here it comes. Can you feel the love tonight? Tonight we are. [Applause] [Music] It’s pretty cool to get your own personal saxophone solo for your birthday. Happy birthday. [Music] [Applause] It’s also cool to go to Thailand for your birthday and many more. How was the grotto? It was so beautiful. What a surprise. My gosh. Amazing atmosphere, fantastic staff. We only had drinks, but really hope to go back for food. And we got some IPAs, some Thailand IPAs and some Thailand gin. So, it was wonderful. What a great night. Mhm. Very friendly service. And they had a live sax and keyboardist. It was so sweet. Yeah. Saxophone. And can’t argue with those views. One of a kind. [Music] taking in the night vibes. The kind of high-pitched almost like a little monkey chirp. Oh my goodness. There’s ping pong. I got plans now. The main walking street is pretty quiet tonight, but it was busy earlier, so I think a lot of day trippers were in town on boat tours, but now it’s just people staying here for the night, so a bit quieter. We’re back at Avatar Raleigh, and there’s some sort of karaoke on. [Music] We made it back to the room. It’s about 8:00 p.m., but it feels like midnight. And it was a great first full day in Thailand. We are ready to sleep well and get ready for the boat tour tomorrow, bright and early, 6 a.m. Heck yeah. So remember to stay curious and stay grateful. Stay safe, my friends. Good night. [Applause] [Music]
