Why You’re Missing Out On Summer in Japan
Don’t come to Japan during summer. Well, that’s I mean, yeah, it’s hot. Yeah, it’s humid. But by the end of this video, you will know why summer in Japan is underrated or yet even incredible. So, take your notes, take your screenshot, because we’re going to flip the script. So, I came up with the best Japan summer game plan. If you do everything in this video, heck, if you do most of the things in this video, you’re going to have the best summer in Japan to remember. Step one, cool off and enjoy in Japan’s hidden nature spot. Yes, we’re talking about Mount Fuji, chilling by the river, seeing the lavender flowers, you know, the good stuff. Start with the quick escape to Okutama, the mountain area in Tokyo, the edge of Tokyo. I mean, there’s a lot of things that you can do here. You can hike, you can chill by the river, and then you can also listen to the nature. Just enjoy the beautiful nature of Japan. And to be honest with you guys, because here is the mountain area, the temperature is not hot at all and it’s very comfortable, especially during summer. If you love flowers, then you’ll love lavender fields in Hokkaido. This one is not lavender, by the way. I just found this flower. I felt I thought, you know, every July, the fields in a city in Hokkaido called Furano turns completely purple. The air smells amazing and the views look straight out of a painting. I mean, look at this bee, guys. I’m telling you, it is not a paid actor. And now you might be wondering, wait a minute, a flower in summer? That doesn’t seem right. Well, this is Hokkaido, the northernmost part of Japan, where the summers are actually cool enough for flowers like lavender to bloom at their peak in July. And if this is your first time in Japan and you’re thinking of going to Kyoto, but it’s just too hot, too crowded, and you want to avoid the summer stench from the crowd, you should go to Kanazawa. It is often called Little Kyoto for its well preserved samurai and you guessed it, your favorite geisha districts. And finally, the big challenge, climbing Mount Fuji. It’s only open from July to early September, which means you can only climb Mount Fuji during summer. And it’s tough, but standing on top of Japan’s tallest mountain watching the sunrise above the clouds, you will remember it forever. Pro tip, do it in 2 days. Make sure to reserve your in near the summit, ideally four to 6 weeks before the climb. Many huts require upfront payment or cancellation fees, so double check the policies. I put the best in to reserve in my app, so make sure to check it out. Step number two, go to this Tokyo beaches that no one knows. Tokyo has beaches, but no one talks about them properly. If you search Tokyo beach right now, you you will probably end up in Anoshima. And that’s fine. I mean, easy access, you know, you can have like beach vibes. But guys, the sand there is black. It’s not white like this. So if you want something that actually really nice like beautiful water and like white sands, you have to go like a bit further. So somewhere like here on beach, super chill. It’s about 1.5 hours from Tokyo station and the trip costs around 6,200 yen if you’re taking the limited express wakashio for a round trip. You’ll get clean water, soft white sand, and waves that are perfect for swimming or beginner surfing. It’s probably the best value loweffort beach day you can do. Now, if you want a better experience, Nijima Island could be interesting. Yes, Tokyo has islands and yes, it’s not that easy to get to. So, to get to the Nijima Island, there are two ways. The first one is using the jet ferry from Takushiba Pure Port and the second one is using the flight from Chofu airport and using the ferry going to takes around 2 hours and 40 minutes while the flight going to takes around 35 minutes. Now, I know it sounds like a nightmare, but once you overcome the hurdles, you’ll be greeted by volcanic white sand, crystal clear water, and no crowds. I mean, look, look guys, even in Onjiku, where we at right now, there’s almost no crowd. If we’re talking about Nijima, that’s like a remote island. There will be no one in the beach and you can have the whole beach for yourself. Amazing, isn’t it? I mean, like, this is crazy. Now, look, Japan isn’t popular for beaches. And if you’re used to the tropical beaches like the Bali and the Maldives beaches, then you’ll notice the difference. But after five straight days of temples, neon lights, sprout trains, stepping into the ocean sky, catching the waves, and seeing the sunset by the sea. I mean, that’s not bad, isn’t it? Step number three, go to Japan theme parks and summer events. This is your chance to enjoy Japan’s worldass theme parks. We’re talking about Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Sea, Universal Studios Japan’s, all of them. Now, I know what you might be thinking. Japanese theme park in the peak of summer. That sounds a little bit crazy, isn’t it? Until you realize one important thing. Japanese locals avoid the sun. In Japan, having a fair skin is considered ideal. So, many people avoid during the peak sunlight hours. So for us international visitors, this could mean one huge W, way shorter lines. Popular attractions like Mario Kart in Universal Studios Japan or Fantasy Spring or Journey to the Center of the Earth in Tokyo Disney Se usually the waiting times are very long which is around usually 2 to 3 hours. Now during summer is cut to half so maybe around 40 minutes or something like that. I think this is pretty awesome for you guys to enjoy these kind of attractions. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s still hot in summer, so you need an umbrella, proper sunscreen, a portable fan, and if you don’t know how to survive during Japan summer, don’t worry. If you like and subscribe and ring the bell, I’m going to share with you in the next video. And the best part in summer is usually these parks roll out a limited time summer event. So in Tokyo Disneyland they have Baymax mission cooldown and you have Baymax and his crew try to soak the audience with water smith and water splash which is going to be very very fun. In Tokyo Disney Sea they got dog side splash where the staff will spray with you with water and you will get drench. In Universal Studios Japan they have no limit water splash parade where the staff will drench everyone with water cannons. And if you’re looking just to dive straight into water, Tokyo Summerland is the place. has wave pools, lazy rivers, slides that only open during summer. Beyond theme parks, you got culture events like Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama. Imagine hundreds of Pikachu dancing around the streets in August. And for anime fans, Comic Cats in Tokyo is the biggest anime convention in the world where you have manga and all the cosplays come along and you can see all the pure chaos pack to pack from wall to walls. And of course, summer is a music festival season in Japan. Fuji Rock will bring a lot of international artists to Japan. Summer Sonic will lights up Tokyo and Osaka with pop rock, popular J-pop artist. So, make sure to bring a lot of water and also to book your tickets early because you will get packed really fast. Step number four, get very cheap clothing at the flea market. So summer in Japan isn’t just about beaches and natures. It’s also about surprises. And there is no better surprises than the flea market in Shimoki Tazawa, which is the one behind me. So if you’re in Tokyo this summer, you might want to mark this part in your calendar because Shimokazawa runs in this week, July 12th, 13th, 20th, and August 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 30th, and 31st. So Shimokawa is one of Tokyo’s coolest neighborhoods, and every summer they have flea markets. This is your chance to get the Japanese hip drip. This market blends vintage clothes, handmade crafts, and random weird treasures into one colorful maze. It is so cheap and the best part about it is you have to search for your favorite clothing because some of them are very cheap, like cheaper than teu, but with Japan quality. If you guys don’t remember all the things that I’ve mentioned in this video, don’t worry because I’ve created an app where you can see what is the recommended activity in summer. And you can also interact with my AI and it will tell you the recommended activities personalized for you. If you want to use it, scan this QR code and create an account and then you are all set. Yes, summer in Japan is intense, but it’s also alive, full of energy, festivals, sounds, and moments that you can only experience in this time of the year. And if this is your chance to visit, then absolutely do come to Japan in summer.
You’ve been lied to.
