Hungry Vlogger Visits Japan’s Burger City (Sasebo) πŸ” πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

Good afternoon from Fukoka, Japan, where your man is about to head to the burger capital of this country. Yes, I’m going to Sabbo, also known for having a big US military presence, guys. That’s why it’s probably popular for burgers. But, um, it’s an hour and 50 minute train ride away. And my hotel here in Hakata is right next to the train station. It’s just around this corner right here. This busy, busy, massive train station. It’s huge. You can get the subway here. You can get to the airport. There’s trains to other cities. There’s the Shinkansen. You can get to the other side of Japan in ultra fast time. This uh yeah, it’s a good place to be staying there. You can get to anywhere from here. And today I’m getting to Cableo and I’ve already got my ticket guys since I’m staying next to the train station. I just came here last night and booked my ticket. So you can reserve a seat and all that. So thought that was a smart thing to do. My train is at 12:37 and now it’s just after midday, just after the hotel checkout time. So I’ve got half an hour that I can use to maybe get a we snack for the train. I think you’re allowed to eat on the inter city trains here. So, might see if I can get myself a wee bento box or something like that. Maybe from the family mart. Yeah. Yeah. None of this stuff’s appealing to me, but this is just Let’s keep it nice and simple, guys, with the egg sandal. Okay, I got to grab my ass. Okay, let’s find where we take the train. It’s so busy. There are so many people. And this is a weekend. It’s a Saturday that I’m filming this, guys. So, yeah, this series seems to come alive at the weekend. Seems to be way busier at weekends than it does during the week, actually. You would think it’d be the opposite. All the uh Wow. All the office workers and all that. I think I’m through this way. H Hello. Yeah. Okay. Thank you. You’re from Japan? No, I’m from Norway. Norway? Oh, really? Okay. Where are you going today? Uh I’m uh tenant only. Only tension. I’m going to SO. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Nice to see you. Okay. Okay. Good. Nice and simple. And now I’ve got some stairs. Well, there is an elevator. Okay. B37 to Sable track 4. And it’s more stairs, but there is another there’s another elevator there. And it’s roasting. This part is in air conditioned. It’s all like outdoor tracks and stuff. Normally I’ve been taking the Normally I’m taking the subway and it’s all air conditioned, but yeah, this is all outdoors and it is Japanese summertime, guys. So, it’s absolutely sweltering. right here right now. But I’m on the right platform and I know exactly what cabin I need to get into, what seat I need to get into. I’m in car 6, seat 14D. So, yeah, no stress, guys. And yeah, about 25 minutes as well to chill. Oh, and they have a waiting room. Well, that was a smoking room, but there’s a no smoking thing. So, hopefully this is air conditioned. Let’s see. Oh, yeah. Got the AC. Nice. So, the train’s more than 10 minutes early. So, no rushing around. This is platform six. I’m in seat 14. Ah, we this one. And then 14D right here. Window seat. So the seats are nice. They do recline, but there’s somebody behind me. I won’t do that. I won’t be I won’t be that guy. This journey an hour and 50 minutes and costing $4,750 yen, about $33. Not too bad. There’s also a green cabin you can pay. I may be about 25 bucks more and travel first class. But I mean, this is nice enough, isn’t it, for a one over 50 journey, guys. And I thought these were vending machines, but they’re not. They’re just open fridges, and you must have to go away around the corner to pay for it. This would never work in the UK or any country with the type of people that would neck stuff. But in Japan, everyone trust each other. It’s uh yeah, people can just go up and grab that and they’re trusted that they will actually go around and pay for it rather than just, you know, jump on the train. Just noticed I’m in the wrong seat. I’m in 14. This is 14 there. Now that I don’t have anybody behind me, I can comfortably recline the seat. Let’s try this. Let’s try this out. Ah, yes. Oh, yes. That’s very comfortable. So, this service is an express service, which means it skips out a lot of these smaller stations and gets to your destination a lot faster. Sando time. Thank you for riding with JR. I love how soft these are like. Even when I don’t have much of an appetite, I can easily eat one of these. Trying to find a toilet. I’ve just seen there’s a vending machine. It doesn’t look like it’s in use anymore, but it’s kind of like a bar. That’s kind of cool, actually. But yeah, it’s not operational. And yeah, I’m looking for the book. So, let’s see what this is going to be like. Is it going to be nice? Clean. Okay, guys. It’s not too bad. I won’t point the I won’t point the camera right down the toilet. I don’t let you eat your dinner or your lunch or your breakfast while watching these videos, but uh I’m enjoying the I’m enjoying this, right? It’s uh scenic views all the way. And I haven’t even looked at my phone once. The entertainment is just the view. All the little samurai style houses and the sweeping green hills. Oh my god. Okay, I’m going to do my business, guys. I’ll get back to what I see. Okay, that wasn’t bad at all. There’s some kind of air freshener. There’s some kind of air freshener that goes on in there as well. So it’s quite pleasant. Okay. Automatic. Yeah, I’ve been pulling them. You just put your hand near them, that’s all. And got about half an hour to go. Okay. Okay. We are here in Burger City, SBO, and I see a big ship there. I think we’re right at the port. I think the train station is right at the port, but that these will be American Navy vessels. And my exit is back there. I just checked the map, but I just want to have a quick look out here at the port. Yeah, we’ve got what looks like fairies here. Yeah, these are fairies. That says Eastern Cruise. So that’s actually a cruise ship and that’s got a Japanese flag. So that’s Japanese Navy right there. So the American Navy base must be somewhere else in Sable, but I know that Sable has at least 5,000 American Navy soldiers, personnel stationed here, plus their families. They’ve got a massive a massive camp somewhere, guys. They’ve also got a Christmas tree. That’s so random with nothing on it. They just leave it there all year and light it up in December or something. I don’t know. But yeah, I need to go back through the train station. Looks like there’s a we kind of warf mall area there with Starbucks and all that, guys. So, my hotel is very close to the station. Should be less than 1 minute’s walk down this way. It should be one of these buildings here. Oh, wow. It’s Roston. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned that, guys. It’s Rost. I’ll be I’ll be glad to dump off this luggage and walk around more freely. Now, the hotel is called Washington. A good American name. Washington Hotel. Hopefully, it’s uh I see it ahead of us right here. Hopefully, it’s uh Western standards and all that. You know, no mattress on the floor, no thin mattress on the floor. You want a proper bed in that? It’s one of these. They have the You could check yourself in with the machines. Let’s see how this works. Huh? Says cannot be completed. Please contact the front desk. So, I have to do it the old fashioned way, guys. All right. Check in. Machine not working. Yeah. Okay. So, we got a room on the ninth floor. Non-smoking. Yeah. Every hotel you have to choose between smoking or non-smoking. Sometimes I find a hotel that looks suitable and then I go to book it. They only have smoking rooms available. So, I choose another hotel. How horrible would it be to be in a room that people smoke in? Must be absolutely disgust. Especially these tiny rooms, these tiny little Japanese shoe box rooms that people are just sitting smoking in, guys. Yeah, but we got the non-smoking room here. Let’s check this gap out then. Oh, another little shoe box room. Kind of hard for the course traveling Japan. These tiny little rooms with a single bed. Yeah, this is going to be the quickest room tour ever, guys. There’s the bed. There is Do I actually got a view? My hotel in Fukquoka didn’t have a view. I got some kind of view. I got a sea view, guys. Can you see the view? Yeah. And yeah, I don’t have a freezer in this one. H my last hotel had a freezer. I guess I do have this. Yeah. It’s not even cold. It’s not even switched on. That’s the thing. H. Yeah. And what is this? This looks ancient. This looks like from the 1990s or something like that. It’s some kind of What is that? Physical card. Something you put cards in to watch TV or something. Eh, huh? But it’s got a proper a proper desk and chair. I mean, I’ll have to move all that junk out the way, but I can uh set my laptop up there. That’s the main thing. A lot of these hotels, they don’t even have a proper desk. just have like a little stool or something that fits under it cuz they’re trying to save as much space as possible, guys. But uh Oh, it’s very springy. I was expecting that to be firm like a Japanese mattress normally is. I can feel the springs on that. And this looks ancient as well. This looks like it was probably high tech LCD screen in the 1980s and then it hasn’t really been upgraded since then. And the bathroom, all the bathroom is tiny. The bathroom’s like an airplane. It’s like an airplane bathroom right here, isn’t it? Yeah. And even though it’s tiny, they still managed to fit in a bathtub. That’s the thing. The Japanese, they uh they love a bath. So they do. They just they love it, you know? Love their onins and they just love soaking in hot water for some reason. Personally, I would rather the bath wasn’t there and I just had a shower. You know me. But uh yeah, that’s how much you think I’m paying for this. Well, we’re not in big city anymore like Fukuoka or uh Osaka or Tokyo or whatever. So, it’s not extortionate prices. The reason I checked out my hotel in Fukuoka today, specifically today, is the hotel price was going up to like $300 or $350 a night for like a little basically the same kind of room like this was going to be like $350 because today the Saturday is just so busy. The whole city, all the prices and hotels are going up. But here, Sebo, it’s not really a tourist place. uh you’d only come here if specifically you’re a foodie who’s after the local burger or something like that, guys. But I’m working my way towards Nagasaki. So, it’s like half the way down to Nagasaki anyway. So, it’s like I thought I’d stop off here. But, uh how much do you think I’m paying for this little shoe box room in Japan? I’ll tell you. Only 57 US. It was something like 9,000 something 9,000 something yen. So, only $57 a night. So, yeah, it’s it’s very basic, but it’s a very basic price. It’s like what you would expect to get for that kind of money in some other country, you know, in Europe or whatever. But, uh, yeah, like um, I’m sure it’ll be fine here. I got my desk and stuff. Got my fridge that needs loaded up. Actually, guys, you know how we do it. We start with the empty fridge and then tada. It’s your man’s own mini bar right here. Just how he likes it. All the favorites. All the good snacks right here. The one satisfying protein bar. The one satisfying chalky bar. The one satisfying banana bar or something. Cereal bar. I don’t know. We’ve got the mei pistachios. So, I like the macadamia version of this. I’ve never tried the pistachio ones. The first time I’ve ever seen that. I’ve got the Miji chocolate 72% cacao and balanced power. This is like we they’re like we cakes the texture of them. They’re really nice. Got a Philippines Highland banana. Banana all the way from the Philippines. Shout out to the Filipinos watching the vlog. Shout out guys. Shout out. Hope you’re enjoying watching my vlog from Starbucks where you’re soaking up all the free air conditioning and Wi-Fi for like four or five hours. I’ve got the tofu miso, we’ve got the clam miso, and we’ve got a deep fried eggplant miso soup. So, I love these miso soups. They’re like 50 calories, and they always just hit the spot whether you’re cold, you’re hot, it’s morning, it’s the end of the day, it just always feels good to have a miso soup, guys. So, yeah. And you can drink as many of them as you like. They’re so low on calorie. Uh, got the thick cut beef jerky right here from 7-Eleven. I’ve got what else? Oh, yeah. The good stuff. White chocolate dipped freeze-dried kiwi pieces. See the amazing stuff you can get out of the convenience stores here, guys. There’s so many good drinks as well. Like the classic Japanese. I’m going to need one of these. I think it’s even even indoors from the window. I’m feeling absolutely sweltering. So, I’m going to take this electro electrolyte beverage right now. We’ve got the deep green tea. So, that’s like a strong one. I’ve got the yakle to keep the stomach nice and strong. We’ve got a we sandwich for later on. Got the It’s like egg and ham and all that. It looks good. And a nice soft bread. We’ve got the dark chocolate dipped rusk right here. We’ve got these are nice. It’s cheese and fish. Uh I call them a cheese and fish sandwich. It’s like, you know, there’s layers of dried fish and then it’s cheese in between. So it’s like a sandwich, but they call it a paste camber. So it’s common bird and some kind of fish. That’s good. We’ve got Dorian’s favorite right here. The red bean and cream pancake. That’s a doriyaki. We’ve got some um sausage and potato kind of snack box there. And we’ve got a fried chicken. That’s a fried chicken snack box right there as well. That can be in cold. Got the veggie drinks. My protein. This says milk tea flavor. It’s a milk tea flavor. My protein drink. 15 g of protein. 100 calories. That’s not too bad. We’ve got a fresh yogurt there. We got a fresh grapefruit juice. Coke Zero, of course, Coca-Cola Plus. You should only drink one of them a one of them a day, guys. Um yeah, just trust me on that. Drink one of them a day. No more. And yeah, all the good stuff. Milk tea, orange juice. Yeah, that’s going to keep me in snacks for at least the next, I don’t know, 36, 48 hours, guys. And I’ve done a speed test right here on the hotel Wi-Fi. And we’re getting 38 megabits down and 64 megabits up. That’s the most important one for me, guys. To get these 4K resolution, high bit rate videos up to YouTube. They’re m the files are massive. It takes if I had the kind of internet connections I’ve had in some sketchy hotels where it’s been like 5 megabits upload or something, you’d never see these videos. You you’d never see them, guys. But, uh, yeah, that’s me nice and settled into my we room there. I’ve got my laptop set up. I couldn’t use my like even on the low setting I couldn’t use my little like stand there because you can see it just I would have to like bring it out to here and it would be like to there. It’d be uncomfortable. It’s a bit of a design flaw that that’s where they put the chair for the desk. They put the TV sticking out and the mount doesn’t swing out or anything like that. It’s it’s fixed. They should really have it there and then have it on a swinging mount so you can watch it from the bed and stuff. But who am I to advise them on how to design the room that was I guess designed in the 80s because like I said this kind of technology is definitely 80sish guys. There’s a we sign on the door. It says caution please shut the door when you take a bath because hot air off the bathroom makes a fire alarm ring. So apparently steam can come from that and set off this the smoke alarm which is supposed to only be an alarm for smoke. This one maybe because it’s from the 1980s with all the other technology. Maybe back in the 1980s steam used to set off smoke alarms. But luckily there’s no sprinkler system that I can see. So I don’t have to worry about accidentally setting it off and soaking my laptop or anything like that, guys. But yeah, with the bathroom door shut, this is going to be really even more claustrophobic. Even my head’s almost at the ceiling and it’s above the mirror. But and then yeah, especially if I’m standing in the bath. It’s uh yeah, this is going to be like a steam room. This whole room is going to be like a steam room, which is fine if you want a steam room, but I mean it’s hot and humid outside right now. It’s um Oh, wow. Yeah, that’s heated. That’s a heated mirror. So, yeah, at least the mirror won’t all steam up. That’s how that works. That’s why it’s heated. That’s good to see. The Japanese are smart. Got all this technology. Like the fancy toilet that washes your bum. Yes. Can you believe that there’s people in other countries who just think it’s acceptable to wipe their bum with a piece of paper and call it a day? That’s enough. Oh yeah, that’s that job done. That’s that job done. I smear smear a piece of paper over it. That’s that job done. No, no, no, no, no. You got to learn some good personal hygiene. Get yourself a Japanese toilet to wash yourself properly. Be nice and clean, guys. Now, I’m going to be nice and satisfied after have a sassable burger. That’s what your man’s mind is on right now. A sassable burger. Yes, there’s like a whole bunch of different burger joints in this city and I’ve got a lot of them saved on Google Maps. So, I’m going to go for a wander and then find one of the ones that I’ve got saved somewhere out there and I’m back down here at the port guys and I’ve seen this map. It’s a Seable City. That’s where we are right now. And where we started earlier today was up here somewhere in Fukoka. So, we’ve come all the way down here by train and then if we keep going south, we’ll end up in Nagasaki. At some point, that’s where your man will be heading. But look at all the different places you can head to from Cable from the port. You can go to all these different islands from here, guys. This must be one of the major ports here in this region. Kyushu, look at the size of that cruise ship. Yeah, I was thinking this isn’t really a tourist place. I was expecting to see yeah a lot of white faces because it’s the American Navy port, you know, Navy station. I was expecting to see that, but I think there’s a bunch of tourists as well because everybody who’s on that cruise ship, well, what happens when a cruise ship docks? Everybody gets off and has a jolly good time in that city or that town or that place. So, that’s what they’ll all be doing right now, guys. But not many people outdoors. You would think in a nice sunny day like this, everybody would be enjoying the outdoors, guys. But it might look nice and sunny to you. It’s definitely sunny. It’s not nice. That’s uh that’s the thing. It’s absolutely extreme. Look at the people with umbrellas. Like even the locals can’t handle the heat. That tells you something. Scotsman’s got no chance. And if you guys were wondering how I’m Yeah, there’s a lot of Navy around. The Japanese Navy though. I see them in the uniforms. And I think I figured out what burger joint I want to go to. 4 minutes walk away is Sabbo Big Burger main branch. So it’s somewhere that’s got multiple branches in Sabbo. So, it’s probably good. Ah, it looks like the full walk all the way there is going to be in the shade because this is the shopping arcade that I’ve heard about. Whether it’s rainy season or it’s like it is right now, blistering hot season, this is uh the perfect environment for being outdoors in the daytime. It’s all the usual kind of shops and restaurants and stuff that you get out on the streets, but it’s all covered and nice and cool. Right. Apparently, this burger shop should be on the corner here. It’s actually off the arcade. Ah, this is it here. It’s a Sable Burger Big Man. Get in here. And that looks like it’s for a queue, so it must be popular, but not right now. It’s empty. That’s good for your man. Please order one pair at a time at the register. I don’t know what in. Okay. It’s telling me to come in. Uh, which one is good? King. Okay. King burger is good. Combo on. Oh, for a combo. Okay. Plus, potato and M size drink. Ah, okay. That’s good. With Pepsi Zero. Okay. So, this is with uh beef, bacon, cheese, a lot of stuff. Egg. Egg as well. Ah, okay. Okay, this is the egg, onion, onion, and tomato. Okay. A lot of stuff. Oh, wow. Nearly ready. That’s the egg on top. Okay. Look at the size of it. Wow. Okay, check it out, guys. Look at the size of it. The bacon is all over the sides. I don’t even know how I can uh fit this in my mouth. Okay, I’m going to get so messy in this. I don’t even I don’t even know where to start. I guess the bacon. Oh, wow. Is this one piece of bacon? Look at the size of that. Well, the burger was beautiful. I’m messing it up, but I’m trying to figure out a way to eat it. Oh, it’s all smoky. Like super smoky. Super smoky bacon and thick. Right, that’s half the bacon eating. It should be It should be easier to stick in your man’s cob right now. Or really, let’s let’s take the lettuce out. That’s usually what I do when a burger is too thick. The first thing to go is a lettuce, guys. Or maybe eat a bit more bacon first, right? That’s a lot more manageable. Oh, wow. The patty is all char grilled and then the smoky bacon on top. The bacon’s as thick as the burger patty. Oh yeah, this big man really puts McDonald’s to shame. What would you rather have? A Big Mac or a Big Man? I think I’d rather have the Big Mac. No, Diddy. Demolished. Apart from the lettuce. Lettuce doesn’t count. And the fries are nice as well. I usually prefer the thicker ones. No, Diddy. But these are nice. Nice and seasoned. Wow, that was lovely, guys. That really hit the spot. Now I think it’s time for dessert. There’s some viral cream puff on this walking street here. Can’t remember the name. It begins with a G. Anyway, I’m going to going to look out for that. That’ll be the ideal dessert. You see the type of food that’s on sale here. Steaks and burgers and pizza and stuff. They’re catering to the Americans. That big man burger has been open since 1970. There’s been an American presence here for decades and decades and decades. So yeah, plenty of American food, guys. Now I need a good dessert. Cream puff. Let’s look out for a cream puff shot. And another good thing about this Go 3S camera is that when I snap it on and off my chest like this, I don’t even have to look. I just have to roughly get it level because there’s a feature on the camera called tilt fix. And if you’re off by like 10Β°, it just automatically fixes the footage for you and makes it level. So, with that and the fact that it has the flow state digital stabilization technology from Insta 360, the same kind of digital stabilization technology you’ll find in the premium action cameras like the Ace Pro 2. You’re getting smooth footage and you’re getting level footage just by turning it on and snapping it to your chest like this. It’s uh that’s what I like, guys. Just equipment that’s easy to use. Press one button, you can’t mess up. I want to concentrate on my adventures. I don’t want to concentrate on messing around with cameras, setting them up level and all that, playing with different settings. No, I just want to press a button, record, and know confidently that I’m getting good footage at the end of the day when I review it. Ah, the big man has another branch right here actually in the shopping arcade. I think I got the cool branch. I got the one where the celebrities signed all the uh on the wall and stuff like that. I think it was the OG branch that I went to, the original. And yeah, they’re so popular that they’ve opened branches. That’s the one I had right there. And it’s Japan, so it looks exactly like it does in the picture, doesn’t it? You remember what my burger looked like? It looked exactly the same as it did on that picture. That’s uh that’s one good thing about Japan. You always know what you’re going to get. It’s the law. In fact, I think that’s why they can’t uh misrepresent the food like a burger chain in the UK might put up a beautiful, succulent, delicious looking burger on a picture and just give you something that looks sad. That often happens, doesn’t it? In the West, not here in Japan. No si I’ve just seen here they have Daiso. So, Daiso is a 100 yen store, so 70. In the UK, we have pound shops. Everything’s Β£1. Here, they have everything 100 yen, which is like more like 50 p or 55 p or something like that. So, every item, some items are actually higher. I’ve been to the one in Fukuoka. Some items are like 200, 300 and all that. This isn’t Daiso. This is another. This is the Aon shop. Daiso is here. Yeah, this is Daiso. So, I think this is like a department store with some other sub shops. But yeah, like everything you see is like 100 yen, unless it has a sticker saying 200 yen or 300 yen, but like 90 like 99% of products are uh like things like this are all 100 yen. Uh, and the one in Fukoka had a food a food section as well. There was you can get snacks for 100 yen as well. Every time I come to Daiso, I end up with stuff. So, grab a basket. Now, I found this. It’s a children’s book for learning, but it’s for learning hiragana. It’s like this will be useful to me. I’m actually learning the characters, the Japanese characters, the hiragana. Uh, so you write them out. You trace it. You trace it from a little bit and then you write it out yourself. So five times. Yeah. For a look how many different ones there are, guys. It’s this is like it’s uh it’s pretty difficult. Yeah. I put on a par with trying to learn the Thai alphabet. Okay, I’m going to get that. That’s useful. 100 100 yen for that. It’s good. And there’s some souvenir things here like the little wooden dolls and all that. Little pandas. Little bear like this. That’s good. And like I said, if it’s not got any kind of label or anything on it, but a price. Let me see. I don’t see any price. So, if it’s no price, it’s 100 yen. There we go. What else? H something like this. Again, no price, 100 yen. Uh, you see this one is 300 yen. So, it’s got if it has a sticker like this. So, that’s like $210. Oh, yeah. And it’s 100 yen plus tax plus 10% tax cuz that says 300 and in brackets 330. So, everything is 110 unit. It’s 77, not.70, guys. Uh, there’s so much like they sell everything. There’s like gardening products. There’s snacks. There’s stuff for your kitchen. There’s slippers, clothes. Like I got all sorts. Kids toys and all that. Uh yeah, I might get something. I think I’ll get I think I’ll get this as well. Just some random thing like that. I’m getting all sorts of random little ornaments and that. Uh I’ve already got one of these from um when I went to the Zifo. What have I got? Three different things. That’s $2. I got three different things and it’s only $2 US. Let’s see if they’ve got a snack section. The one in Fukuoka had a pretty decent selection of snacks. I know. I see like pomegranate and all that. It’s uh it’s like some face mask or something. Oh yeah. I think this is like a snack section right here. Oh yes, guys. So again, everything 100 yen. Sometimes you see like smaller packets of things that are normally more expensive in real supermarkets. They make like a smaller version just for Daiso. So, they can sell it for 100 yen like that, like these things. There’s hardly anything in that. You know, these are usually more expensive. Little uh squid snacks, soft tempura salmon. That looks good. Salmon with all the tempura over it. Again, 100 yen and smoked squid. So, what we up to now? Five 500 yen. What about some nuts? Right here. Fruits and nuts. That’s good. And just nuts. Yeah. I kind of like a little bit of sweetness with them, guys. Some of these are two for 100 yen. You choose any two. Ah, they’ve got the balanced power that I like. It’s little mini packets. This H. Oh, these look good. Little mini brownies or something. Healthy club. 100 yen for a pack like that. Oh wow. Okay, I’m gonna I’m going to pay for this and get out, guys. Um before I buy the whole shop. Ah, lovely. Jubbly. More souvenirs. Well, half of them were souvenirs. Half of them are going to be consumed, guys. Now I want to consume the cream puff. Another mission. Dessert mission. Uh-oh. I left my wallet on the tail. Hopefully, it’s still there. It is Japan, so yeah, I’m feeling confident it’s still going to be there. Oh, where is the tail? Where did I just come from? I forgot my wallet. Um, really it’s not here. Okay. Okay. Sorry. Okay. I put it in my bag with all the stuff. What a dope. Well, I only slept 4 hours last night. I got an excuse for not being too sharp. It’s uh yeah, I just felt my wallet wasn’t in my pocket. Just I’m so used to, you know, my phone is in my left pocket, my wallet is in my right pocket that it feel I feel light if I don’t I just feel like I don’t have it, you know. Okay, I’ve consulted with Google Maps and the place is called Ganski Bakery and I’ve passed it. It was a way down there. It’s actually where I turned off to get the burger. It’s just there. So, I’ll head back there and get my cream puff. Apparently, they’re crispy and filled, generously filled with custard. It’s like a custard, not cream puff, a custard puff. According to some blog, some random blog. What is this? Pocket Jenin. I think Jenin is like rock, paper, scissors. Cuz I remember playing a video game called Alex Kid in Miracle World and the kind of submissions were you had to fight bosses doing rock paper scissors and they called it Jenin in the game. A Japanese made game. So that’s what it is. Jenkin pocket Jenin. What is it? Oh, I think you actually have to play rock paper scissors. You play Jenkin against this machine and you can win a Nintendo Switch or something else. I’m sure that is completely and utterly rigged. So, I’m not even going to I’m not even going to play that. Ah, you cute doggo. Little enu. These cute little enos. That’s the Japanese word for dog. I thought the word for dog was doggo cuz anytime I try and compliment a Japanese person’s dog, they’re like, “Yes, yes, a doggo. Doggo.” But uh enu enu is the word for dog. See your man after being at that shrine in the zyu praying to the god of learning is learning. Learning slowly but still learning Japanese language. Uh here it is right here. Ganski uh bakery. And that’s what they’re famous for. The ganski puff. They have a brulee version. Custard seasonal flavor. I guess that’s the seasonal flavor there. Peach. These look good as well. Green tea chocolate cookies. Wow. Okay. Cream or peach cream. Uh custard cream. [Music] Okay. I will head back down where I was sitting. I don’t see any other Well, there’s one bench, but this guy’s got it all to himself. I’ll uh find somewhere to sit down and enjoy this. Okay, now I’m the one taking the bench to myself in the middle seat so that nobody has the idea to sit next to me. So, I tried this cream puff after sanitizing my hands. I get these every time I go to Family Mart. So, I’ve got about a dozen of them in my bag. They’re useful for times like this when I want to eat something with my hands and I’ve been touching stuff. Let’s dive in. Oh, it’s is big. 240 yen. What is that? That’s like $1.70. That’s not too bad at all for this chunky dessert. It feels uh it feels heavy and dense. So, they said it’s a generous serving of custard that’s inside. It is custard and it feels it feels all hard and crispy. Oh my word. Oh, the pastry is crispy on the inside. It’s crispy on the outside, but then it’s soft like half The layer is crispy and half the layer and the inside is soft and then it’s just pure pure custard. Pure pure custard. Sweet creamy. Dairy flavored. Something fell. But it was just a crumb. It was just a piece of that. It wasn’t a custard. Thankfully, guys. Thankfully. Oh, the custard is so rich. Oh, wow. Superb. Yeah. I would definitely have this again, guys. But next time I’ll try the peach, the peach one. And it is now 6:45 p.m. Guys, the sun sets here about 7:40, 7:45. So, I’ve got about an hour to get somewhere to get a good sunset. And I’ve been researching. I’ve been using Google Maps. Apparently, there’s some park with a little mountain that you can hike up and to get there takes an hour and 20 minutes from here. It’s 4.2 km away, it says. So, I don’t know if I’ll walk fast, if I’ll just make it right in time for sunset to do that. It’s a bit of a trick. Um, yeah, I’m just going to go for it. I don’t have any other ideas of anything to do. So, that’s the way I’m going to end the daylight hours with a 1 hour 20 minute track. Ah, maybe I can see where I’m trying to get to. Yeah, that’s where I’m going to. Yamahari Observatory. So, we’re here in this like shopping street and we have to go like this and then up a mountain. I don’t even know how big that is. I can only see it from there and from Google Maps where obviously it looks 2D. It’s flat. So, I have no idea. Uh it doesn’t look that far away, but it’s saying it’s an hour and 20 minutes to get to observer. So, it’s probably like like that. No worries for your man though, is it? That is no worries for your man. Ah, yeah. This is it here. So, it’s up this big steep road and then it’s the top of that right there. That’s where I’m going. Hopefully. Yeah. Well, you see how dry the river is. Yeah. The rainy season has well and truly ended. Now we’re in a sweltering season, guys. I’ve got like a quarter bottle of water in my bag. I’m going to need to find a family m or something hopefully on this street because otherwise I have to go all the way back and I don’t have time for that. Oh, there’s a vending machine. Brilliant. It’s Japan. There’s vending machines everywhere. That’s good. Land of convenience. And for this one, some kind of green tea. Don’t know if it’s sugarree or anything. Let’s see. Just want nice cold sugar-free drink. Don’t see anything about calories on it. So, I think it’s just a natural. Oh, it says it’s emmon. I thought it said lemon. It says emmon. Established in 1790. 1790. Really? Wow. That is proper old. An ancient tea company. It is sugarf free and totally natural. Oh wow, that’s delicious. Guys, I’m going to finish the ball. I’ve only the the vending machine was at the bottom of that street. I’ve already uh tanked half the ball. I’ll need to get another one. If there’s another vending machine up here, I’ll get another one. And this area is so quiet. This is all residential. There’s no real businesses or anything like that. Wow. So many places like this in Japan where it’s just peaceful. It’s just a peaceful life for people. Everyone’s very gentle and relaxed and peaceful. It’s nice, guys. What else will be nice is another drink? I’m going to go for this one. The vitamin C. I think it’s vitamin C. Anyway, it’s got a C and GABA. So, I think some kind of vitamin vitamin. Oh, wow. That was super fast. Oh, it’s a can. Oh my god. I need a bottle. Otherwise, I have to drink this all at once. Doesn’t that there look like a bottle? Ah, it’s a can with a picture of a bottle. Yeah, it is. Look, there’s a picture of a bloody bottle on a can. Oh, that bloody tricked me. And there’s me thinking I’ll just walk fast and get to this viewpoint on time. But then every time I see a vending machine, I got to buy a drink. Wow. And it’s just like a residential area. And they just have vending machines lying around on the streets and stuff. Again, I relate that to what it would be like in Scotland or anywhere in Europe really. If you had vending machines in a quiet residential street, somebody would just smash it open. They try and steal the money. They try and steal the products. you know, if they thought they’d get away way away with it, you know, somewhere where look, there’s no people around, they’d have the idea, wait till the sun goes down and we’ll just do that. And then, yeah, that’s the like I said, the benefit of being in Japan. Everybody say shares the same cultural values as each other, not to steal. And then they don’t import people who don’t share the same cultural values as themselves. Smart. So, it is. I don’t know if this is smart. Going up this hill at sunset. How do I get back down? How do I get back down in the dark? I don’t know what it’s like. If it’s all like lit up path or if it’s actual rough terrain. I really have no idea. I just thought of this idea right there and then. Uh looking for somewhere, some kind of peak where I can get a view. Hopefully I’m going the right way. Imagine this was a dead end, guys. Already like half the way up. I think up here. If I keep going up, that’s the direction I’m trying to go in. Oh, wow. This is reminding me of going to Kadiff Cali and Ismir, Turkey with the steps, but without it being a favlla type place. This is nice and safe. But I’m just getting the same kind of vibes. Oh, just splash myself. Wasted water. I need every drop I can get. So for all you guys that say, “Oh, all you do in your videos is eat, stuff your face, blah blah blah.” You never go on adventures. I always go on adventures, guys. You just never watch the full video. I always do stuff like this. Don’t Wow. Off the beaten path. All the tourists down there. How many of them do you think had the idea to hike to the top of that right now? approximately 0.0% of them. We’re get even even here we’re getting a good view. Look at this. We can see the whole port from here to down there. Wow. Woo. What a beautiful and quiet place. This is incredible. [Music] Oh, what do I see right here? Oh, wow. I love it. I love being in Japan, guys. Just the simple little things like this. Like, where else in the world could you do something like this? Go on some kind of hike that you go through a residential area with no shops and then there’s just a random vending machine where you can get your hydration, including an ice cold Coke Zero. Fantastic. Amazing. I’ve taken a shortcut, guys. This these steps aren’t on Google Maps at all. It just doesn’t exist on Google Maps, but it looks to be the direction they’re going in. And they’re going up in a direction that should be a shortcut. But wow, it’s proper steep. Oh wow. Hello. Oh yeah, it is a shortcut. I see a car just flew past. That’s good. Well, wonder how many tourists these guys see coming through their neighborhood. Can’t be that many. Like I said, this path isn’t even on the map. All you do is eat junk food and snack all day every day. How do you stay skinny and lean and strong bodied? By doing stupid stuff like this, guys. By walking places that I probably could have taken a That’s a That’s an actual bus stop. Walking to places. I think that’s a bus stop, is it? Yeah. No, it’s not. It’s just some I don’t know what it is. It’s not a bus stop. I don’t think buses come up here. Well, Google Map says it’s 33 minutes, 31 minutes now, and there’s 20 minutes until sunset. So, I mean, it looks like I’m going to miss it. It’s not like I can just start running, start jogging or anything. It’s uh it’s uphill all the way. But even if I don’t get to the summit in time for sunset, if I get there and everything’s dark, at least I got the view here. I got the view multiple places coming up. And I got to stand and take it in in complete peace. Wow, that guy’s got koish down there. I think it’s actually the community. This is like a little community of houses. See, that’s why Japanese are so nice. Like they would have something like this where they have like eight homes or something and they would all put in their money together and have something like that they can share with the community like nice koiish. It’s some place Japan. So it is. It’s some place. And Google map saying 18 minutes walk away now. And there’s 12 minutes till sunset. Yeah, I could do with just, you know, having come up with this idea 10 minutes earlier. It would have been ideal. But no lights all the way. All this whole last section is going to be dark. Hopefully there’s no kind of wild animals around here. I know that some parts of Japan get bears and stuff like that. So, uh, yeah, I got nothing to defend myself. That’s an issue. Ah, there’s a sign here. 1 kilometer someway 2.3 km this way. Oh my word. H, I don’t think that’s a good idea going up there when it’s just about to get dark. Ah, I have to can this. Let me check Google Maps. Yep, that’s the way. You can get there by road 2.3 km or you can go up there 1 km. And this is the direct route. And it’s saying how long now? How long to get there? 13 minutes. Uh, and it’s it’s going to be dark in 9 minutes. Yeah. Uh, I think guys, ah, what should I do? Ah, screw it. H, I’m 50/50. It’s just it’s like this. That’s the problem. And trying to get back down when there’s no light at all. It could be dangerous. You know, if I slip and bash my head, nobody’s going to save me. Uh, I don’t know. I don’t know. Yeah. The more I think about it, the more the sun goes down. Well, I got my good views, didn’t I? No. Screw it. Let’s do it. Let’s do it, guys. Let’s do Oh, no. It is it like this all the way. No, this is a terrible idea. No, no, no, no, no. This is treacherous. Oh, my brain is telling me to turn back. But for some reason, I feel determined. I think after I cross this stream, there is no more slippy bits. Yeah, I think it’s just all uphill from here. Ah, no, guys. No, it’s proper this is proper I’m turning back. This is uh I mean there’s kind of steps, but it’s proper uh there’s it’s treacherous. It is treacherous and I’m not going to make it there. I’m not going to make a 1 kilometer on this kind of terrain in 7 minutes, am I? So, I mean, sometimes you just got to cut your losses, guys. Uh, feel disappointed to be honest. I can always I can obviously come back tomorrow and try again. just leave half an hour earlier, you know. But yeah, GG for now, guys. Oh my god. See, see, imagine doing this when there’s zero light like it’s going to be in like 7 minutes time. Okay, guys. I’m going back down. I’m going to continue the vlog tomorrow, though. So, I will see you then. Oh, God. Okay, it’s a new day, guys. And if you live to see another day, that’s always the most important thing, isn’t it? So, I was looking at that viewpoint I was trying to get to on Google Maps, and apparently I would have been fine if I had just continued, if I just kept on going because at the top there, there’s a hotel right beside the viewpoint, which is weird considering like how small the road is going up there and all that, but it seems that on the other side of the hill, there’s like a proper road that goes up. So, I could have went back down that way by an Uber or something like that, maybe even a bus. So, um, yeah, I figured that out now. So, I might give that another go today, guys. But my main thing for today is a bit of sight, a bit of relaxing sightseeing. I’m going to go for a cruise around the 99 islands. And if you’re wondering how I’m getting this uh top down shot from the ceiling, I’m of course using the Go 3S with the remote control here. The action pod works as a remote control, so I can stick it to things like that and stop and start recording with this. Let me show you this little pivot stand thing. So, you’ve got this sticky mount here. It’s just a little bit sticky, but the camera is only 39 g. So, it’s like uh yeah, you can just like slap that against things like where you see fit and it sticks and it doesn’t ruin like the wallpaper or anything like that cuz it’s just a little bit sticky, guys. So that’s uh yeah, it’s I’m able to get shots with this that I’m not able to get with the Ace Pro 2, you know, like I be a mission trying to like stick the action camera to the ceiling, guys. But yeah, the plan for today is to go do a we cruise, but I won’t actually be going from here. There’s another bay on the other side. I actually have to take a bus like 20 25 minutes in that direction. And there’s another bay. And the islands I’ll be going to are called the Kujuku Shima, the 99 islands. And it’s apparently the most popular thing to do in Sable is take a cruise around those islands in a boat. And uh yeah, that sounds good to me. Nice relaxing, some nice relaxing sightseeing for your man right now. So yeah, let’s head on out. The bus station is right there. That is the Sable bus station down there. And then the bus stops are like right behind it. So I think that’s where I’m getting a a bus to the Peril Sea Resort. The bus to this resort is once every hour, but there should be one. Yes, stop six. There should be one in about 3 minutes. So hopefully I’ve timed this right. Japanese buses are quite punctual. So I feel like uh yeah, this one right here 13:31 on the weekend. I feel like if I turn up just before the exact time, I’m kind of safe. Whereas in another country, maybe the bus would come 5 minutes early and just go straight through like that. I’d probably want to get here maybe like 10 minutes early or something, guys. But I’m feeling confident that in a couple of minutes my bus is going to rock up. Well, it is now 13:31 exactly. It’s just turned 1331. And I guess this is my bus. I don’t know what the number is and I can’t read this, but I’ll check with the driver. [Music] Check the driver first. Driver Kukushima. Okay, good. Kukushima, I need to tap this. Okay. Okay. Oh, that’s my Oh, no. Oh, that’s my room key. This what? Okay. Okay. I was using my room key from a hotel. Oh my word. Let’s try this one then. The same color. Okay, I got it. Okay, okay. Yeah, too many cards, guys. See how much this cost. Okay. I think it was 390. So about $280 now. I see the boat right there. I can just see it. It’s the red one. So it’s 10 minutes to 2:00. And this boat leaves on the hour every hour, guys. Or maybe it’s this one here. I think they actually have two boats, but only one apparently is in use. I think it’s that one actually because the cruise lasts for 50 minutes. So, that’ll be the last one coming back. That’ll be the 1:00 cruise coming back right now at 1:50. And I’m going to make it for the 2:00 cruise. So, these ships, the Pearl Queen, and this one that’s not being used right now. It’s apparently, yeah, 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. on the hour every hour. But this is nice on this side. So that’s where we are, the Kukushima Pearl Sea Resort. And that’s the other way over here is the Sable Station where I just came from. But um yeah, that’s what I’m going to be doing, the 2:00 ride around the 99 islands. There’s apparently more than 99 islands, but the the word ku 99 in Japanese, it kind of means a lot. Like I would say, “Oh, there’s millions of 7-Elevens here.” You know, there’s not literally millions, but you say millions. I think they say Kuuku, like 99 is a lot. So, it’s the the 99 islands, but it’s actually like 200 of them, guys. Uh, probably have to get a ticket. Yeah, these guys already got their tickets and are queuing up, so I better be quick. Her queen. Okay. 2:00. Okay. So, 2,200. Okay. Okay, this one. Okay, I mean there’s a lot of people boarding this. These people been here for a while. I just rocked up and got my ticket. Getting straight on hopefully. Looks like it could be kind of full. Oh wow, it’s a beautiful ship. So is that one that looks even nicer, but like I said, it’s out of order right now. And as you can see, it’s mostly domestic tourists, guys. If you do anything touristy on a Saturday or Sunday in Japan, you get a lot of the domestic tourists, guys. This would probably be quiet on a weekday. But uh I don’t know if I want to sit in the sun for an hour or next to one of these windows. Let’s see. Nobody asked for my ticket. I wonder what would have happened if I just jumped on the boat and not know that I needed to get a ticket. Guys, there’s these little tables right next to the window and there’s the roof in the baking Japanese summer sun. I guess I better decide because if I change my mind once I’m up here, all the uh tables next to the window will be taken. Deluxe. Yeah, there’s nobody up here, guys. Well, this is shady. That’s nice of a chill here. And this ship has got like a pirate theme. You see the pirate right there. Yeah, it looks like a probably Look at this. It looks like a proper pirate ship. That’s nice. I would have liked to have sailed on that. That’s cute. They wave goodbye to you. Yeah. Apparently, this fire boat is electric. And this one, I see some fumes coming, so it’s probably gas or whatever. But yeah, off we go, guys. on a cruise through the 99 islands. Oh, wow. Look at this little secluded beach right here. So, apparently you can hire kayaks and stuff. You can hire you can hire your own little boat. You can hire kayaks. You could kayak out to there and go chill. And your own private beach, guys. Oh, here’s the kayakers here. That’s nice. Everybody waves. Everybody waves. It’s kind of It’s kind of cute. It’s kind of cute, eh? So, these islands, apparently, they have trouble counting them because when there’s low tide, they actually find that some of these islands are actually one island. They’re actually connected. And when it’s high tide, they look separate. But the last proper survey they did, some university did a survey and apparently there was 28 individual islands that they found here. And it was the right decision to come to the top of the boat. Guys, most people are downstairs, but I mean, you’re kind of enclosed. You’re just looking through a window here. You’ve got the fresh air. You get the breeze as well. I’m in the shade. I’m able to stay in the shade the whole way just by moving from one side to the other. It’s good. Yeah. So, even though it’s the middle of summer, scorching hot, this is enjoyable, guys. This is an enjoyable we cruise right here. And I’ve just seen there’s an even there’s an even higher part here. Oh, wow. There’s an actual lookout point. But that’s not um yeah that’s not shaded. So I’ll only come here for one or two minutes. But this is where everybody’s uh everybody who wants to take photos and videos there at this part. We are approaching a large island which you will see on the right in the foreground. The island has an interesting shape with a deep cove and it is called Matsuachima Island. Oh wow. It’s beautiful. I kind of want to get a kayak now and just rock up to each island. I don’t know if you’re allowed to do that. Yeah, there’s nothing. It’s just trees and rocks that are on each island. But it’ be kind of cool just to be on your your own private little island for a bit, guys. Wow. Down here. I think there’s a bar area cuz there’s loads of people eating ice cream and drinking drinks and all that. So, Yeah, I’m up for something as well. Here we go. I’m going to order this one. Google Translate says it’s a jellyfish fizzy drink. Don’t know if there’s real jellyfish in there or not. Doesn’t look like it. I think it’s just the name. [Music] It’s a packet of frozen something. Don’t know if it’s less or what. We’re doing a U-turn now. They said this is the climax of the cruise, the most scenic part. And here I am. Get myself a drink. Okay, thank you. Okay, it’s It just looks like lumps of pink ice, guys. No jellyfish in here. Let’s see if it’s worth 650 yen, about $4. Kind of expensive, but they’ve got a captive a captive customer base right here. If you want a nice cold drink like this, who else are you going to buy it from? Let’s give that a sip. Yeah, just it’s just a fizzy soda. Just a fizzy sugary soda. That’s all. And the ice. Yeah, the ice. It’s like a artificial grape flavored like grape grape flavored candy or something like that. So, it’s uh it’s just flavored ice, guys. We hope you enjoyed your cruise around. That was nice. What else will be nice is a nice sable burger. Apparently, there’s a diner here where you can get one, but I feel like I’ve probably got a better one back in Sable Town Center. Yeah, there’s some burger stalls here and here. But yeah, I feel like I’ll get the better one in the town center at one of the famous restaurants. So, there’s an aquarium here. There’s a botanical gardens and stuff. There’s a lot for, you know, a day out. I just came for the cruise, guys. I’m going to cruise back in the bus back to Sable Town. Let’s see if it’s this one. I think it is. There’s one leaving in 4 minutes. These buses are only once an hour. So driver say yes okay thank you get the right one this time we go this is where the American Navy are stationed right Here this is their compound. US fleet activities so. Okay, let the burger hunt begin, guys. Actually, let’s go chill in my hotel room for half an hour. Then I’ll be back out, guys. I’ll be back out on the burger hunt. Wow, it is rusted. I do not want to be wandering the streets in this environment. Oh yes, just what I need, guys. Just what I need. An air conditioned room and an ice cold Coke Z for me. So, the hotel lobby has these sable burger maps. So, this is my first time looking at this. This is their little uh mascot. Like the city mascot is like a we burger guy. That’s cute. But there’s a map of all the different burgers. They’ve listed them all here. I’m going to choose the one that looks the best or the one that looks the best and is kind of close cuz this is the city center here or the town center. Don’t know if this is a town or a city. Uh but that’s where I just came from. The Kukushima. So apparently there is a good there’s a few actual decent burger shops there. I just thought they’d be I don’t know, not very good because it’s like a tourist place and in tourist places you don’t get good food, you know, because they don’t get repeat customers. But um yeah, this is this is the mascot. You can even get t-shirts and all that. I’m actually interested in the burger itself, guys. So, what I’m going to do is I’m going to choose that’s the one I had earlier in the vlog, guys. The big man. The big man. I’m going to choose another one that looks super appealing. And then I’m going to head to that shop. Ah, well guys, unfortunately the burger that looked the most appealing on that burger guide is a way back where I just came from at the cruise area. So, I don’t really feel like going all the way back there just for the burger. And I found another couple of interesting ones, but they’re closed. One’s closed on a Sunday and other one’s closed after 3:00 p.m. But here at Cableo Train Station, they have a branch. It’s actually through there. Hm. I do I actually have to I think it’s actually in the train station, right? Uh yeah, there’s the mascot guy there. It’s called Log Kit. And yeah, they’ve got like an entrance over here as well. I’ll get in that way and I won’t have to buy a ticket just to get a burger. Yeah, right here. Got a we entrance. Hello. Okay. Ah, special burger. Burger. Yes. Bigger or small? Uh, regular? Regular. 10 minutes. Okay. 10 minutes. Okay. Eat here or inside? Here is in the like. Oh, that’s in the in the eki. Yeah. Ah, okay. So, I have to eat here. Oh, okay. Wow. Okay. Okay. Wow. Massive. Oh, okay. I’ve given it 5 minutes to cool down. It was straight off the grill, guys. Oh, wow. This is so juicy. Everything about this is juicy and a little bit toasted on the top of the bun, right? Oh my god, I’m I’m getting messy already, guys. Uh, I’ve gotten rid of the lettuce. That’s usually how I do this. I start by getting rid of the lettuce. M. Super tasty. All the egg cheese sauce. Oh, steam is still coming off it. Yeah. And the bun is really soft, but just the outside is just toasted. So, you just get that little bit of crunchy texture. The bacon is all smoky. Tasty. Tasty. Okay. Wow, that was delicious. That was so juicy. Everything about that was juicy apart from just that toasted layer on the top. M. Oh, I’m feeling so good right now. Now I’m in the mood for dessert, guys. I got a sweet tooth right now. Could it be something out the Family Mart? Like maybe the Choco Mint. The Choco Mint thing. Eh, they’ve got a ton of chocolate mint stuff at this time of year. And I believe there’s a drink, like a frozen drink, like a slushie or something like that. Let’s see. I don’t know if they’ll have it. This is a tiny This is a tiny family. Here, this is the drinks here. The frozen coffees. Now, they don’t have it. The Choco Mint. Ah, damn. They do have a Choco Mint ice cream though. Yeah, they have this one. Gleer. I want the drink though. That’s the thing. Yeah, I’ll try another Family Mart. See if I can find it. Okay, let’s try in here. Ah, it’s another It’s another Choco Mint thing, but it’s like an ice cream. Yeah. Ah, here we go. Right here. This one. This is what I’m after. Chocolate mint frappy. Okay. So, just stick this in the machine somewhere. I think it’s this one with a coffee. Yeah. Frappy. That’s what it is. Is that it? I thought it was going to mix it up or something like that. It just added some stuff on top. It just added some milk on top. Huh? It’s still solid. Solid. How do I do What do I do? I don’t know. Okay. Okay. I think Oh, wow. I was totally confused. I thought it was like 7-Eleven where I thought it was like 7-Eleven where you get the frozen smoothie and you put it in and it blends it for you. It blends it all up. So, I thought that’s what that machine was. And then whatever button I pressed, I thought I pressed the button for frappy cuz this is a frappy. And all that did was put milk on the top of it. And then I tried to explain to the staff that I want it like blended like a frappy should be. And she just blend she just mashed it up with a straw. I think that’s what I’m supposed to do. I think that’s what you’re supposed to do. You just buy it like this and drink. Just you just mash it up. It starts Yeah. It starts to melt and you just drink it. Oh my god, I feel so stupid, guys. They must think I’m an idiot. I don’t know. Like, how do you know until you know, you know? If you don’t know, you don’t know. I didn’t know. So, but now I know. And now you guys know. You get the benefit. That’s the thing, guys. You get the benefit. If you come to a country like Japan and you’ve watched my vlogs, you get to see all the mistakes I’ve made first. So, you don’t have to make them yourself. Okay. Okay. Now, let’s give this this Choco Mint drink a try. M. Oh, yeah. That is good. Oh, yes. M. Yeah. It’s like um It’s like chocolate mint ice cream with like also like shaved ice as well. It’s like that, guys. Oh, it’s really tasty. M. Oh yeah, the chunks. The chunks of chocolate. Little chunks. M. That is superb. And yeah, I don’t think you’re supposed to put the milk on top of it, but it works. It works, guys. It works. Now, ahead of me is that big hill that I tried to get up to before and failed. So, can you guess what my mission is right now, guys? Can you guess what my mission is right now? If you said it’s to get back up there and get to the top, well, you would be wrong. My mission right now is to get rid of this damn cup that I’m carrying around. But if you thought my second mission is to get to the top of that mountain and get a nice sunset, well, you’d also be wrong because my second mission is to go back to that shopping street, which I think is down here somewhere or might even be there, and get myself the peach version of that cream puff. The seasonal the seasonal flavor peach. And if you thought my third mission is get to the top of that mountain and get the sunset finally from there, then you’d be correct. But yeah, the issue is the sunsets behind it. That’s the sun there. The sunset’s behind the hill and then the view is like down on the port there. So I didn’t think it’d be that good a sunset. But your man must finish what he started. That’s the thing. Okay. Mission one complete. And mission two is right there. That’s the bakery right there. Hello puffy. Yes. Okay. Each puff acquired. Okay. These guys just left that bench. So I will take it to give this peach cream puff. I try, guys. Let’s split it open down the middle. Ah, it doesn’t look like peach. I thought it was going to be all uh pink and all that. It’s a little bit pink, but it’s mostly white. Mostly cream color. Oh, wow. It’s very I tell you what, the color might not be peach, but the flavor is peach. M. Oh yeah. So the original one that I had that was like a custard. This isn’t custard. It’s like cream. It’s like peaches and cream. M. And they they really stuff these. They really absolutely that it’s all filling, guys. It’s like 90% filling. And just the outside is the pastry that like I said before, it’s kind of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. That’s it. What would you rather be in, guys? This beautiful peach cream puff right here or a McFlurry from Mickey De’s? You’d much rather this, wouldn’t you? Right, missions one and two complete. Now, mission three, guys. I will continue filming where I left off the last time. The treacherous trekking path up that hill, guys. Yeah, this time around it feels a lot less like a horror movie. I remember specifically this bit before. It was like a tunnel with the trees and it was like almost completely dark and it felt proper scary, proper sketchy. And just like the last time, I haven’t seen anybody or any vehicles coming up and down this road. This isn’t It’s not even really a proper road, is it? That people would use. Like I said, on the other side of the hill, there’s a proper road. And I think that’s how people normally get to this. But your man doesn’t do things the way people normally do them. There’s all sorts of weird screeching and noises coming from this forest. Who knows what lives in here? I don’t even know. What I’m worried about is the bores and bears. That’s the main worries. Uh, the thing to do when you’re in an area with bears is to be loud and make your presence known and then they stay away from you. That’s much better than, you know, sneaking up on them and then they get startled and then they attack you. So, I learned that from watching some old Gabriel Traveler videos. He used to work in a national park, so he knows all about bears and all that, guys. Uh yeah, take your advice from the OG the OG travel vloggers, not these young punks that seem to be popping up left, right, and center these days, guys. But 1 kilometer up this way. Oh, that looks a lot more manageable. And there’s no stream like there was the last time either. This looks Well, it doesn’t look easy, but I mean, it looks nice. This is the kind of hiking trail that I like, guys. You know, feels like a wee bit of an adventure, doesn’t it? Yeah. This is where I turned away when I started seeing trees the last time covering the track and then I was thinking about how do I get back? How do I get back down there? So, we’ll see how close I was. This is where I quit last time. We’ll see how close I was to the top, guys. See, this isn’t too bad. It’s practically evening. The sun is I think already set on the other side. at that hill. But it’s no less uncomfortable temperature- wise than in the daytime, guys. It just seems to be something about these forests that the humidity seems to be even more, you know. Oh, okay. Yeah, this is the extra half an hour of daylight needed, guys. For sure. Look how steep this is. And suddenly the stairs stop. No more steps. So they go up this way or this way. This looks like it’s just a stream and not an actual trail. And then this looks like ah that’s a step. That’s like a man-made step right there. Okay, that’s what I’m going to follow. No signs or anything though. But yeah, this is definitely the way. Ah, guys, there’s civilization at the top here. So that must be where the road goes. If you take the road 2.2 km and there’s other people up here. Like I said, people will have drove from the other side. I didn’t see any cars or hear any cars either going up or down that road. So, they would have came from the other direction. Wow. Yeah, I think this is the viewpoint right here. Got more steps to get there, guys. I just had to clean the lens. The lens is all steamed up. That tells you how humid it is. I feel like I feel like I’ve just stepped out of shower. I’m dripping, guys. But remember, if you want to go on adventures like this and record them, you don’t need to be taking big bulky cameras or even action cameras, full size action cameras, you can take the Go 3S, guys. Don’t forget to check out all the info about the Go 3S on the Insta 360 online store, link in description. There’s so many good uses for this little device, guys. I was taking it out and about on days where I didn’t want to take a normal camera. Like, I wasn’t vlogging. And uh yeah, there was a day in Fukuoka. I went out to eat some steak and yeah, it wasn’t a vlogging day or anything like that, but I thought I’ll take the Go 3S out, capture some memories of a beautiful, beautiful steak dinner. And that’s what I did. So small, 39 g. It’s uh it’s really helping me capture more moments that I otherwise wouldn’t be capturing, guys. So, yeah, do recommend this little device. Like I said, there’s no real competitor to this on the market, guys. It’s uh it’s a really standout device from Insta 360. Now, I want to stand out and up at the highest peak of this place right here. I want to get the view. Don’t tell me it’s just this park on the top with trees blocking the view all the way around. I’ll be so uh disappointed. I hear something up some steps. See, this looks like the the top remains of radar for anti-aircraft guns on Mount Tajima. I think this is Mount Tajima. So, they had some anti-aircraft thing. I think that was during Yeah, that was during the World War II during the disable air raid. They were shooting down the American I guess it would have been American planes who were trying to bomb them guys. That would probably would have been not long before the incident in Nagasaki. But I guess this isn’t the viewpoint then. I thought there was going to be a viewpoint up here. Uh yeah, it’s just this. Should we check this out then? The remains. H there’s nothing really remaining. It’s just the space where it would have been. So if you think if you were here in June 1945, can you imagine what was going on here guys? Yeah. So we’ve been uh aiming at all the American planes in the sky. Yeah. And another one here. Remains of anti-aircraft gun platform. Yeah. November 1944. We’re talking about this was being used down here. Wow. Yeah. And in the center here, it’s now a tree. Yeah. Something peaceful. In the past, it was a massive anti-aircraft gun. Let’s have a look at it. Yeah, that’s what it was in 1944. And yeah, I think that’s all that’s up here, guys. I don’t see anywhere higher than this. And I don’t see anywhere where I’m getting a view. Like, look around. There isn’t anywhere higher than this. Is this what I’ve came up for? I didn’t even know that there was like the World War II stuff was up here. That’s a surprise. I just thought this was a viewpoint. It says literally says on Google Maps observation point or something. Let me see. Yeah, observation deck. There’s literally an observation deck, I think. H Yeah, I think it’s probably down. It’s like, here’s me going to the highest place. It’s actually probably like down and then it’s like looking over the ledge to the view. Ah, here we go, guys. Here we go. So, this is definitely the viewpoint. I can see the view already. So, there’s some steps going up. I’ve walked up enough steps. I’m going to take the slope, but that’s good. I get my view from the viewing deck. Oh, wow. Check. This is worth it, guys. This is worth it. Wait till you see this. Wait till you see this. So I got my view and I got some historical site I didn’t even know. You wouldn’t even know if you were coming to Sable. That’s not in any like tourist guide or anything like that. Just randomly discovered. That’s why you come exploring, guys. And that’s why you make the effort to come up here. Look at this. That’s the American Navy port down there. Look at those massive ships. And this is the best view of Sable Port. I think we’re not the only ones here. Some kiddos. Hello. And some other locals. Hello. Hi guys. Okay. Yeah. Check it out. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful. Sir, hello. Hi. How are you? I’m fine, thank you. Yeah. Okay. Hello. Hello. Okay. So this is the best the best view of Sable Port right here. The observation deck. You ready guys? Are you ready to check it out? Wow. And no vending machine here, guys. But thankfully, I brought the OG the OG Japanese electrolyte beverage, the Picari sweat. Oh yes, I’m going to enjoy this for another 10 minutes or so. But thanks for watching yet another adventure, guys. And if you like the video, which you probably did cuz you watched this far and it’s another long one, do press the like button. Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already. And I will see you on the next one.

I visited Sasebo, the birthplace of the hamburger in Japan. It’s also known for having a huge US navy base since after WW2, which explains the reason why burgers became so popular there.

The journey was easy, a direct express train from Hakata Station in Fukuoka to Sasebo Station. My hotel in Fukuoka was right next to Hakata Station and my hotel in Sasebo was just one street away from Sasebo Station.

There’s always hotels near the big railway stations in Japan, and it makes it convenient when travelling around Japan by train.

I stayed at Washington Hotel Sasebo, which is a ‘business hotel’. Japanese business hotels are no-frills and budget-friendly. They’re mainly designed for salarymen and solo travelers who need a clean, convenient place to sleep, with all the essentials there. It was only $57 USD per night, which I think is really good value in Japan.

My first mission in Sasebo, the burger capital of Japan, was of course to get myself a Sasebo Burger. I visited the original ‘Big Man’ shop that opened 55 years ago and ordered their Big Man Burger.

The size and thickness of the smokey bacon was massive. I think the bacon was as thick as the actual beef patty. It was incredibly delicious and it’s clear to see why this shop has been popular for over half a century. They’ve even opened up other branches in Sasebo.

Another popular local food I tried were the Cream Puffs at Ganseki Bakery. They are like choux pastries that are absolutely stuffed with sweet custard. The pastry is so thin, so it’s all filling that you’re eating. Yum yum!

Full of energy I decided it would be a good idea to hike up the nearest mountain and enjoy the sunset. But it turned out to be a bad idea, as I couldn’t possibly reach the peak before it got dark. The views on the way up were incredible though.

The next day I did a bit more of a relaxing sightseeing adventure, taking a cruise around Kujukushima (The 99 Islands). These are the islands that you see in the opening shots of the 2003 movie The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise.

There’s actually more than 200 islands in Kujukushima, but “Kujuku” or “99” in Japanese tends to just mean “a lot”.

Back in Sasebo city centre, I tried another famous local burger shop called Log Kit. This time I couldn’t visit the original restaurant because it closes early, so I went to a small branch that they have at the train station.

This one was extremely juicy, and again, super tasty. Any burger shop that got so popular they had to open up other branches in the city must be good.

For dessert I tried the Choco Mint drink from the frozen section at Family Mart. Choco Mint products are very popular in Japan during the scorching hot summer time.

And I went back to Ganseki Bakery to try the seasonal variety of their Cream Puff, with peach filling. Peach is also a very popular summertime food in Japan.

Again, full of energy, I attempted to hike up that mountain for a nice sunset view. This time I learned my lesson and left half an hour earlier, giving me that extra half hour of daylight that I really needed.

A surprise at the top was some historical place where the Japanese army had anti-aircraft guns during WW2. I didn’t expect that, so it was a nice bonus in addition to enjoying a spectacular view of Sasebo.

  2. This Japan series has been amazing, took me 2 days to complete this episode. Will you be going towards the north of Japan like to Akita or Hakodate or to Hokkaido?

  3. Great videos from Japan. It's a bucket list place for me. Maybe in another few years. I collect vinyl records and want to visit Tower Records in Shibuya, Tokyo that's on about nine floors – just selling records, discs and other entertainment!

  4. Dale, you like choco mint flavor so much, I believe you can do the 'nani ga suki? ' challenge πŸ˜‚.
