Summer Train Trip to Ghibli Town in Hiroshima | Onomichi & Tomonoura | JAPAN TRAVEL VLOG

Good morning everyone, this is Mona😊 Today I’m in Hiroshima Prefecture. I can’t help but feel excited by the spreading summer scenery♡ This time, I’m going on a two-day trip exploring Onomichi and Tomonoura. First, let’s explore Onomichi, a port town with sparkling sea and many nostalgic slopes! I have arrived at Onomichi Station. I’m heading to my first destination. Wow, what a spectacular view✨ I can see the whole of Onomichi city! I have arrived at the observation deck at the top of the mountain. The Onomichi Suido (Onomichi Channel) seen from here looks like a river, even though it’s actually the sea. Senkoji Temple seems to be located a short distance down from the ropeway. It’s nice to take a walk in the greenery. There are Haiku (traditional form of Japanese poetry) monuments scattered along the mountain path. I think I’m almost there. What a wonderful view♡ Let’s worship. Senkoji Temple is a temple with a history of over 1200 years. This temple is said to bring many blessings. Now, there is another place I want to visit. This is a famous giant rock. It is a place that people have been familiar with because if you hit the rock with a stone, it makes a sound like a drum. I’m planning to explore Onomichi on foot on the way down. This is a cafe a little down from Senkoji Temple. It is a great location with a spectacular view of Onomichi. It is a 100-year-old traditional house that has been renovated and can be also used as a guest house. Onomichi is one of Japan’s leading lemon-producing regions🍋 This pound cake also has a slight lemon flavor♡ Now then, let’s head further down the slope. A quiet narrow alley. It’s like the entrance to a mysterious world. In fact, Onomichi is also known as the “town of cats”🐈 There are many fishing ports and small alleys, so many cats live there. This narrow alley is lined with cafes, bars, and general stores that have been renovated from old houses. It is said that there are many local cats living in this area in particular… I can’t find any cats🥲 Wow, I finally met one❤️ I had just given up and stepped out of the alley when it showed up! Maybe we’ve become a little closer? Thank you, see you🥰 I encountered another cute cat. Have a good nap♡ Now, let’s have a slightly late lunch. This is a shop specializing in Onomichi Ramen. It is a popular shop that is famous for having a line at lunchtime. A huge amount of pork back fat! Contrary to appearance, it has a light soy sauce-based taste. The rich flavor of seafood is also effective and delicious😋 I have arrived at the Onomichi Suido (Onomichi Channel). I can get a glimpse into the lives of local people. This is a historic handmade ice cream shop. It is a popular shop that continues to be loved by not only tourists but also locals. The crispy Monaka (wafers made from pounded rice) and gently sweet ice cream are soothing♡ I have arrived at a hotel in Tomonoura. Wow, it’s beautiful😍 This is the hot spring inn with a spectacular view that I have been looking forward to. Let’s head to today’s room right away! What a wonderful ocean view💙 It’s like I have The Seto Inland Sea all to myself. Now it’s time for dinner. I enjoy dishes that make use of carefully selected seasonal ingredients from this area. Cheers🥂 It was a very satisfying dinner, both in taste and quantity. Good morning! The sky in the east is turning red. It’s almost sunrise. What a beautiful view. It fills my heart with joy. Wow, it’s nice Japanese breakfast! Such a happy morning♡ Now, let’s go for a walk around Tomonoura😉 Tomonoura is a port town facing The Seto Inland Sea. Its history is long, and it is said to have a thousand years of history. First, I came to the symbol of Tomonoura, the Joyato Lighthouse. Time flows peacefully. Tomonoura is known as the model for the setting of Studio Ghibli’s animated film “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.” A port town with rich nature and historic townscapes. It’s said that Director Hayao Miyazaki, fascinated by the beautiful scenery, stayed here for a long time and developed the idea for the film. Wow, I found a signature of Director Hayao Miyazaki🥹 This is an inn designed by Director Hayao Miyazaki. Within the charming Japanese-style design, I can feel a touch of playful spirit. Stairs like these just make me want to climb them. Ah, this is so much fun. Let’s take a little break. This is a cafe right next to the Joyato Lighthouse. I ordered a cute shaved ice♡ The balance of sweetness and sourness is perfect. There is also ice cream inside😆 This is a view I’ve always wanted to see. The ships sometimes passing by and the islands floating in the sea are beautiful. It’s like a painting. This channel brings you unique travel experiences in Japan.
