Here are four of my favorite meals from our trip to Kyoto, featuring Q types, taplog ratings, and prices. The first spot we went to was Gian duck rice, which was a recommendation from a friend. Our duck rice set was about $25 Canadian, and there was no queue when we went at 2:30 in the afternoon. Our bowls came with the duck breast, the egg yolk, as well as the dashi broth, which was reminding me of a science experiment. I absolutely love this place, and I will be trying their duck noodles the next time I’m in Kyoto. The next spot we visited was for Guyatsu, and there are locations all over Japan. And this is actually our second time visiting. The queue here was about an hour and a half and my set cost about $20 Canadian, but I honestly love this place more than Yukasu Modura because of how crispy the breading is. Next, we have Gjo Ramen, which was another friend recommendation. Before lining up, you would place your order through this ticketing machine, and the queue was about 40 minutes total for our $11 ramen sets. While the ramen here is great, the suki min was even better, and that’s probably what I’ll be getting the next time I come. Lastly, we have Katukura Tonkatu. The queue here was about an hour, and I paid $20 for my tonkatu set. I really love how you’re able to choose the size of your tonkatu here because one time I went to a place where it was just one fixed price and I ended up filling up on the unlimited cabbage more than the tonkatu. I really needed my fiber intake so the unlimited cabbage here was perfect. And this also applied for the miso soup and rice as well. We are still getting through two weeks of Japan content.
