Eat Street Foods at Hidden Tokyo Food Street Locals Love! Jujo Ginza Arcade, North Ikebukuro Ep.584

[Music] Hey guys, today we are in Tokyo station heading to local part of Japan, Jujo area. Speaking of today temperature, it’s 34ยฐ, window is 5 m per second, 54% humidity. Yes, it’s hot in Tokyo. It’s already almost mid of July. But since it’s before the Japanese summer break, there are not that many people in front of Tokyo station. After the summer break starts, this place will be crowded again. So, let’s go inside the Tokyo station. From here to Jujo Station, it takes about 20 minutes. Yep. Inside the station, much cooler. So firstly we are heading to Higashi Jujo station located in north part of Tokyo. So we are using the Kahin Tohok line leaving from truck number three blue one. This train goes to north part of Tokyo, Akihabara station and Reno station too. But we will go north more than that. Here we go. Train has arrived. This train goes to all the way down to Saitama Prefecture. But Higashi station it’s before the Sait Prefecture. So let’s go. [Music] Here we go. Finally, we arrived. Seems like not that many people and the station really quiet. Next to this station is Akaban station. Akaban station is a big station. So there are so many people over there now. So today we are heading to Jujoay which is a ju arcade. There are many different kinds of restaurant and the food stall. I heard it’s pretty interesting local arcade. So, we are exploring over there. So, let’s keep walking. By the way, what a beautiful day. I love the weather even. It’s super hot now. Actually, today I was planning to visit Ireland around the Okinawa area. However, I think it’s because of due to the typhoon. This week becomes all the rainy days. So, I cancel the trip and make it to the next week. So the next week trip is coming. Please look forward to it. It’s my first time to visit there. I’m really excited too. So we are using the north exit. From Tokyo station to Higashi Jujo Station, it cost 230 Japanese yen. A coin locus here. The larger one is 700 Japanese yen. So compared to Tokyo station, it’s slightly cheaper. So, it’s supposed to be this way. Oh, seems like the arcade will start from there. Huh, interesting. Oh, this street looks very traditional. And the houses too old style Japan house. So, it’s supposed to this way. Really? Oh my goodness. I didn’t expect that. We can find a three latcha vending machine over here. It’s super rare. I only found once in Osaka, but this is my second time to find one. Price is 700 Japanese yen. The three sauce is not that popular in Japan, so it’s rare. It says 100% made in USA. Interesting. Seems like that’s a local restaurant. Tonkatu restaurant. The arcade should be this way. We just need to keep straight. Seems like it is the residential area. Oh, it’s my first time to see this restaurant sells the cake for dog. Yeah, I’m not sure what’s the difference between the cake for human and the cake for dog. Maybe they are using the different ingredients, but that’s super interesting. So, after cross that train track, we should be around the Jujo arcade area. Oh yeah, we found more restaurants over there. Oh yeah, the run. Oh, so it must be starting from there. Yes, we are going to the arcade. But beforehand, let’s go check up this side of street. Oh, interesting. It is the special store for the miso. Only they are selling miso. I think it’s my first time to see. And all of the veggies, all letters is 50 Japanese yang. Onion only is 79. Wow. It’s much cheaper compared to the regular supermarket. Nice. Seems like that’s a yaki to store. Oh, they sell the chicken wings. So, taste 180 Japanese yen. And then also the yakitoi only 105 Japanese yen. They have a sauce taste, too. And look at this big chicken katu. 179 Japanese yen. Wow, that’s a good deal. All right, so why not? Let’s do it. So, it cost only less than 300 Japanese yen including tax. They place it and the paper. It’s a traditional style. All right, let’s eat the first food. So, this is the most basic yaki tori. There’s a chicken and also the green onion salt taste. [Music] I told you they also has this sauce flavor but for the salt flavor perfect with the beer. Well, I like the sauce flavor too though. This is a basic yaki to called negima negima. So if you visit the yakitori restaurant, you can start from this negi ma sauce flavor and the salt flavor. Yeah, [Music] since it only cost 100 Japanese yam, it’s a perfect for the snack. And the next one, it is a chicken wing. In Japanese, it calls tasaki. It’s one of my favorite dish. Let’s go with it. Nice flavor of charcoal with the chicken skin with the salt taste. Really good. Two, four. It’s 100. [Music] Oh my goodness. It’s Well, there is a 3 second rule, but still we have so many things to eat. So, uh, maybe next time. It’s more time than I thought. All right. So, let’s keep walking in the arcade. So, let’s go into the arcade. Yep. Inside feels much cooler. Oh, it is a tea shop. Interesting. Smells like cat go, which is the anti mosquito incense. Oh, look at this store. Interesting. My donuts. Let me see what kind of flavor they have. Oh, they have a matcha flavor and hojicha, which is a roasted tea flavor, too. That sounds interesting. Never tried the roasted green tea flavor donuts. Why not? Let’s do it. I don’t know. Sweet. Here we go. Maybe because of the color. It doesn’t look that great, but donuts looks pretty good though. Okay, let’s do it. All right, so roasted gritty flavor. [Music] It’s very interesting. Nice, which is a roasted green tea flavor. Perfectly matches with the sweet donuts. Compared to the whipped cream donuts, it’s not that sweeter. M. Yeah, maybe because of the roasted green tea flavor. Very interesting. Wait, it’s kind of sweet, but I don’t know. Feels not that sweet. Maybe because of the green tea flavor. H outside it is very soft and fluffy. Really good with the sweets. Loving it. Price is 350 Japanese y. [Music] All right. So, let’s keep eating. All right. So, what else we have? That’s a local clothes shop for the elder ladies. And uh oh so basically they are selling the deep fried stuff and also some dish for the dinner. Oh here really the yakitori is only 65 Japanese yen and also cor is only 40 Japanese yen. Wow. This pan cheese and the lancong looks pretty good too. All right we got it. All right, here we go. So, there’s a rotus root outside and inside it’s tun, which is a chicken meat bowl. Price is only 190 Japanese. That’s a good price. So, [Music] nice chicken flavor. really good with sweet and sour sauce plus shaki shaki the crispiness with the rotus root. We had no place to warm it up but if we can warm it up it will be a perfect side dish for the dinner. Actually it’s pretty big. So only one meatball makes me up. All right. So, let’s go for the next. Oh, they’re selling the bento box over here. Nice. Well, there was a guy riding on the bicycle and saying to all the way around. Well, that’s a word in Japanese. But usually this kind of north part of Tokyo area is not as, you know, fancy area compared to the south part of Tokyo. Yeah, that’s also kind of like local part of Japan area. Interesting. You know, I was born and raised in Osaka, so I already got used to it. But if someone coming from the fans area, definitely they will surprise. It is just a different atmosphere compared to south part of Tokyo. So, it would be very interesting spot to visit. It became more windy so the balloon is shaking a lot. Okashino Machioa change snack sore they usually have the cheaper price. Oh, we also have Hidakaya and the Fujisa too. Both of them are good and cheap Japanese chain restaurant. Seems like arcade is empty and over there. How about this side? There is a small aisle. It’s the veggie shop and also Chinese restaurant. Oh, here it’s the station. By the way, it is the Jujo station. If you are coming here by the train, that Jujo station will be the closest station to the arcade. Oh, Tessa Hugu blowfish only 649 Japanese yen. Interesting. Now we came to end of the arcade. We will walk toward to Ikibukuro. From here, it takes about an hour to walk there. It’s a bit far, but it will be a nice walking by the way. Wow. Seems like that’s pretty new one. Now we came to the other side of the station. Seems like the other side of the station there are much narrow street. Local arcade continues but uh this area it’s a bit different atmosphere. Probably this place used to be a very lively arcade. However, now it just gets older. Yeah, we can tell by seeing those kind of bullet board which is pretty old. H now it’s pretty quiet over here. It is the classic style coin laundry. Seems like no one is using it though. All right, our next destination is the mansion of Pakoen which is the park with the waterfall. It takes about 20 minutes by walking. So, we will use the roof. Yep. G scooter. Oh, there is a motorbike trashed. There is no number plate. So, probably this is the stolen one and someone is hiding over here. H, not that bad. All right, so here we go. It was about 10 minutes by the scooter. So, it cost 200 Japanese yen. So, the park should be this way. Speaking of the e-cooter, it is very convenient, especially during the summer time because taking taxi is so expensive in Japan. But you know sometimes we can’t use the train because it’s in the local part of Japan. In that case, e- scooter is a perfect option. Well, still it’s only in the big city though. However, if you are living in a big city, e scooter is one of the good option. Well, rental bike could be a good option too. But somehow around this area, the DKO rental cycle, which is the one I’m using it, they don’t have it around here. So, e scooter is the only way that I can use because of the law in Japan. E scooter can only go up to 20 kilometer per hour. But, uh, still it’s pretty fast compared to the bicycle. Well, definitely compared to the walking, it’s much faster and easier. Oh my goodness. What a beautiful spot. So this slope called Saka which is located in Kita world in Tokyo. It is a quiet nostalgic slope with deep ties to Japan’s postwar entertainment history. It’s named Se Hayashia, a famous Rakugo storyteller who lived nearby. As you walk down the hill, you will notice old fashioned home and peaceful atmosphere that feels the words away from the city’s hustle. Very nice place. So, the park entrance is almost there. Let’s keep walking. All right, finally we arrived to the entrance of the park. This place called Mishino Taken. A nice atmosphere and oh yeah, waterfall over there. Seems like this place used to be a water but not anymore now. So here we go. There is a map. There are four different kinds of waterfall over here. The first one is the Odaki. Pretty nice place. But seems like not that many people over here though. So that’s the first one. Odaki. Oh my goodness. What a nice place. So this is the Odaki or the male waterfall with its strong steady flow. It symbolize power and vitality. It’s the main feature of the park and still runs with fresh water today. Oh my goodness. Such a nice place. Can’t believe we are not that far from the Tokyo station. Such a nice place. So, how about the next one? Oh, I just realized I was calling this park with the wrong name. Usually this Chinese character read me, but this place called Nanushi. So, this place Nanoshi. Yeah, Nanushi’s waterfall park. Interesting. All right. So, let’s keep walking. So, we found the map. So, should be this way. Is this the way to go? Okay. Oh, spider head. Spider head. Yes. Seems like not that many people visiting here because even I’m walking this place. I touch with the spider net on my head. Interesting. Okay, so hopefully we’re on the right track. Really? Am I on the right track? Hopefully. Yes, though. Wait, where is the waterfall? Maybe we came to the wrong way, do we? Seems like stream continues. But uh huh. We are already totally lost. That’s okay. Let’s go back. Oh, maybe this is the way to go to the de tree, isn’t it? That’s okay. Let’s keep walking. I don’t like this spider. Don’t worry if you are planning to visit here and you don’t like the spider net. Yep. I’m taking it all of them with my head. So, you should be fine. Let’s keep walking. Spider net. Maybe this was the waterfall place, but seems like it’s already gone though. Oh, that place used to be the medaki, meaning the female waterfall. Smaller and more graceful. It represents gentleness and harmony. But it no longer flows though. Am I on the right track? I don’t want to fall it. Speaking of this Nanu Shinotaki Park, originally built in the Edo period as a headman’s private garden and later became a public park in the maj era. Seems like kids is playing with the river. I’m wondering what they can get. Oh, seems like that’s a growfish. Seems like it became a super nice place to play for the kids, for the Tokyo kids, which has not that much nature. It’s a perfect place for them, huh? [Music] Sweet. It’s a drink with aloe and white grape. Cold drink always good in a super hot day. All right, so let’s go to the next spot. So there should be the bicycle over here. Oh yeah, here we go. They don’t have a e scooter, but they have a bicycle. So, let’s do it. So, now we bike to near Itabashi station. Well, Shin Itabashi station supposed to be around here. Maybe upstairs. By the way, it’s so hot over here. Well, I want to find a company and uh cool it down. However, we can’t find a conveniator around this area. Ah, let me see. Seems like nothing around. Oh, finally we are in a big street. And we found the comini family over there. Let’s keep walking. Kong time. Yep. Much cooler. Time for ice cafe day. Yep. Large start. 330 Japanese yen. Ice. Yep. Nice cafe in the summertime. It is the perfect drink. So, according to the map, there is a Shing Itabachi station and the Itabashi station is almost there. Oh, yeah. So that’s Shin Itabashi station which is the Tokyo metro and Itabashi station which is the JR station is also almost there too around this Itabashi station area totally different compared to that juujo area it becomes much convenient and there are more tall apartment too yes it is next to iikukuro station so that’s why price for the grand becomes less expensive and it is more convenient place to live. Speaking of the north part of Tokyo, compared to inside of the Yamanote loop line, this place is outside of Yamanote loop line. So the ground price is more reasonable, but still of course it is expensive though. Anyway, so because of that, it is a very popular place to buy the apartment for the salim who works in Tokyo. So that’s why there are many families living around here too. So Itabashi station must be there. So I believe this is the shortcut for Itabashi station. It is a tiny street. Seems like there are many drinking bar and also small restaurant too. Interesting. So I guess this is a drinking street or something. All of them are car. Okay. Are interesting. Oh, it’s my first time to see that outside coin laundry. Maybe this coin laundry for this apartment. But uh yeah, seems like the public coin laundry. Tachomi standing and drinking. All 350 Japanese yen. That’s nice. And here we go. This should be the center entrance of Itabashi station. Oh, it is a small station, huh? It’s my first time to visit Itabashi station. The name is really popular, but uh yeah, my first time. So, this is the entrance of Itabashi station. In front of the Itapashi station, here is a nice square and also combin McDonald’s. But still it’s a small station though we found the map. So now we are between Itabasi city and Toshima city. So after cross that street we will enter to the Toshima city. Iikbukuro located in the Toshimaku Toshima city. If you are looking for the hotel in the major city probably Iikuro station would be the cheapest compared to Shinjuku and Shibuya. However, if you don’t mind or if you already get used to visiting Japan, probably you can find a hotel around this area. Usually hotel price is cheaper even compared to Iikabuku. Oh, so that’s the apartment info around here. The Itabashi station walking 5 minutes in the second floor 25 square meter. So, there are two rooms. One room with the kitchen 25 square meter. The rent is 60,000 Japanese yen. Huh, that’s good price. Well, it might be old though. I think this area is also popular for the student to live too. So, this must be the way to go to Iikbukuro station. Firstly, we will get to the iikuro northbuko. After cross this train track, it is the north cap station. Since there are four train track, it take a while. Usually this kind of place, there is a place that you can go to the other side from the downstairs or upstairs. Yep. Iikbukuro is a hub station and this is the north iikukuro. So during the rush time this place closing for a very long time. And here we go. This is the tojo lineuro station. It is the line heading to the Toshima which is the Harry Potter museum. Since there are so many residential area, there are many coin locers around here too. Oh my goodness, what a peaceful street. Recently in Tokyo there is a vending machine but next to the vending machine there is no trash can. Recently in a big city it is so hard to find a trash can. So even you buy a drink you have no place to trash. I think it sounds crazy. When I was a kid it wasn’t like that though. You know they have been taking off the trash can like each year and then eventually it become like this. Yeah. Hopefully they can have more trash can in the future. I’ve been always saying that, but I’m serious and I think this is a serious problem. Otherwise, travelers will confuse if they can’t find a trash can, right? So, problem. Oh, I had no idea what building it is. But actually, it is Iuro Elementary School and the junior high school. It’s a public school though. What a Korean public school, huh? It’s much cleaner public school compared to the my hometown school. They must have a nice playground and also the swimming pool too. My hometown schools swimming pool. It was like this. The typical public school swimming pool. Finally, we came to the chemical area. We are at Hiwadori peace street. Nothing much over here. So yeah, it is a peace street in front of us already. We can see the sign of Doniote. Can you see? You see that black sign with the yellow color? Yep. That’s Doniote’s building. Oh, there is a local bread store over here. Well, it says Iikukuroi forest of Iikukuro, but we couldn’t find nothing much over here though. So, seems like streets ends over here. And the girl station, it’s over there, too. And here we go. We are at the end of the street. I think the sign we see was this donkey hotel sign over here. Oh, here. There are so many drinking places in the building. So that must be the nice spot of Iikbakura over here. Usually many donkey hotel locates in the nice spot too. Oh, this area’s station. That’s like the kabuk cho. Interesting. Ah, it’s the photo contest. Oh my goodness. This photo looks pretty good. I like this photo as well. By the way, somehow this place smells like a stinky tofu. Chao tofu. Chao tofu. Maybe there’s Chinese restaurant. I don’t know. I don’t see any Chinese restaurant here though. Interesting. Yep. Finally, we arrived to Iikibu Station, Sweden. Let’s go to the east side of Station. After pass this underground street, we are at east part of Iikbukuro station compared to west part of station. There are more entertainment spot. So if you are traveling here, probably you want to visit the east part of Since we are already here. Let’s go check out the sunshine street too. It’s almost 6:00 p.m. So rush hour time. That’s why there are more people in Iikugro station. station is one of the biggest station in Tokyo. So, usually it’s super crowded though. Yes, there is another donkey hotel over there. Yes, donkey hotel is everywhere in a big city. I love Donkey Hotel. Sunshine Street this way. If you are heading to the Sunshine Street, which is one of the biggest entertainment street in Iikbukuro, you can just keep straight from the east exit and uh it’s just over there. Oh yeah, that’s the entrance. Last time when we visit here, since it was April or May, there are so many maid all over the street. But since it became summer and it becomes super hot, so maybe not that much made here now. It’s just too hot for them. Still, there are many maid though. All right, why not? Let’s go check out the claw machines. Gigo Game Center. There are so many cool machines and it’s very quick spot. We can find something nice. So many cute plushy, but it’s just too cute for me though. I’m wondering if anyone can get that. Seems like it’s pretty heavy though. Oh, that box looks cute. So, why not? Let’s do it. I think I can get it. Yeah, seems like that one is super easy to get it. Oh, let’s do it. Yep. Yep. Well, I still believe that Donkeyote claw machines, they had the much stronger powers so that I could get three different kinds of plasty with the one shot. But the usual claw machines is like that. It’s almost impossible to get one. Even the claw machine genius, which is me too. I don’t. So, let’s go to Sunshine Street. Last time we were here, they were renewing the main floor. Maybe they finished the construction. Let’s go check up. Oh, now Sunshine Observatory having collab with Bleach. That seems like a cool collab. Since it’s a bit far, there is a traveler. Basically, we are walking the underground street heading to the other side of the street. So, last time when we visit here, this fountain area was under renovation. Hopefully, it becomes much cleaner now. I’m excited to see the new fountain area. It is a picture spot. Take photo with so many different kinds of anime characters. All of them are pretty much popular characters in Japan. Yep. Some of them are from the foreign country too. How many of them you can realize. So let’s go inside. Inside the sunshine shi there are many different kinds of restaurant over here. Especially if you want to eat in the higher place there are the restaurants close to the observatory. So 59th floor, 58th floor. Those are the fancy restaurants, but you can have a nice view over there, too. And here we go. That’s the event floor. Oh, seems like they are having some event. They usually have many different kinds of event. I’m just wondering what kind of event they do today. Well, we can’t see it from here. Let’s go upstairs. It’s much easier to see. How about from here? Okay. So, seems like maybe Japanese pop star or idol. I am not sure who she is, but she must be very famous though. They usually have many different kinds of event over here. So, if you get closer, maybe you can check up over here. It’s a fun place. Oh, I see. So, she was a member of the morning, which was a really popular idol group in Japan. It’s like the AKB. Well, I didn’t recognize her, but I should know her. Can’t remember though. Anyways, she must be a very popular pop star. So, let’s go back to the main street. I post is a pink color. Usually, it’s a red one. You know, it is popular place for the manga and the anime. So, that’s why they change the color for this town. It’s almost 7:00 p.m. Outside gets darker. Ah, that’s a cute sunflowers. I’m wondering if it’s a real one or not. Well, it seems like a real one. It’s pretty big and vivid color. Nice. Now, we came to the Iikabukulo Park. It’s middle of a nice square. There is a animate cafe and iikuro all sculpture. Seems like animate cafe now collab with Naruto. Naruto summer drink 900 Japanese yen. But uh you can get the coaster too. That’s nice. This is the behind the street of Sunshine City. It’s quite new area. There are so many new buildings and also huge anime too. Uh there is another past. I believe this is the fukulo. Oh, because you know iikulo that’s cute one. It is a to cinema building and there is a ad of fantastic on the stairs. Animate is very popular one. Seems like they are having some event over there. Oh, I have no idea what it is though. So, it is the entrance of animate and there are many gachapons over here. Death Note, blue lock. Oh, so one piece jiujitsu kaisen plus highq. Oh my goodness, this sushi mascot looks so cute. Oh, I thought it’s eraser, but it seems like it’s just a mascot though. H but looks pretty cute. And also seems like those are the card games. Gachapon. Oh, we have more inside. There are so many different kinds of gachapong inside too. So, hope everyone enjoys the local part of Japan video. Speaking of the Jujo Arcade, it’s much local arcade than what I imagined. In the arcade, there are many different kinds of food store which is selling the yaki tori and kro manikatu. those stuff with much cheaper price compared to the other places. So if you like the Japanese deep fried food or you like the street food, maybe you can try over there. There are almost no travelers from foreign country. So definitely you will enjoy that and maybe you can enjoy the hike at the waterfall park. That’s also the interesting place. So anyways, hope everyone enjoys the local part of Tokyo videos. 11. No trash cans came about with the subway gas attack in 1995 – placed in a trash can
NHK reported long ago that studies showed Tokyo streets were cleaner after the trash cans were removed !
Tourists should bring their trash back to their hotels to dispose of it properly. No excuse to litter the streets .
We have been to Japan over the last 15 years on and off and we have no issue with the lack of them .
    Informative video !โค

  12. i will definitely go to the local part of tokyo that you showed us, cause ive been to the tourists spots in tokyo A LOT OF TIMES especially shibuya and shinjuku, kinda get bored with it, but ive never been to ikebukuro and other tokyo local spots. thanks for this video rion!! will always support you!! GAOOO๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ

  13. When you visited the quiet side, it reminds me of the time I explore Tengachaya in June. So quiet and peaceful. Love exploring the part where it has little to no tourist around.

  14. They should just mark that park on Google maps as spider park… thank you for braving it for us! Maybe spider webs are good for your hair, who knows? Also, that yakitori spot looked pretty good, and the price was good as well ๐Ÿ™‚ I'd like to try food from places like that when
    I go back to Japan.

  15. Always looking forward to videos that feature never-seen-before local areas – so interesting!

Thank you and more of such videos please๐Ÿ˜Š

  16. As much as I love the big city, I also can't get enough of these local walks Hope I could sanpo through such streets one day; until then, thank you for your videos 7:08 You got me! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I was gonna congratulate you for finally believing in the 3-second rule ๐Ÿฅฒ Maybe next time ๐Ÿ˜ Hojicha is totally a meccha oishii flavor, and I enjoyed it at "31," which is found only in Japan ๐Ÿ˜‹ P.S. lols, thanks for clearing the park of spider webs! We all gotta visit there quick while it's safe

  17. I loved Ginza when I was there in May, and visited many places I'd seen in your previous videos. So many amazing shops and the architecture is incredible – like a movie set in some places. I loved walking the smaller treelined backstreets, it was so relaxing. I always get ides from your videos for places to visit, thank you Rion!

  18. Local can be rather interesting. It just reminded me that we are only scratching the surface of a country by visiting the tourist spots only. Thanks for bringing us around.

  19. If I dropped a chicken wing like that, I'd eat it without a second thought! Your reaction was priceless, I was so distracted by how shook you were that I had to replay it to see what even happened! ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’”
