Riding the LONGEST Bullet Train and Ferry Route from TokyošŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ to SeoulšŸ‡°šŸ‡· | 4 Day/1800km Journey

Four days! Over 1,800 kilometers! This is my land-and-sea journey from Tokyo to Seoul! Please enjoy the trip! Today we’re going on an adventure! Here is the route. We start on the world’s first bullet train route from Tokyo to Kyoto. Then continue west on the Sanyo Shinkansen through Osaka to Fukuoka. From there, we cross the sea to South Korea’s second-largest city, Busan. And ride the KTX bullet train to Seoul. The journey spans 1,797 kilometers, crossing countries and seas. (total fee ā‰ˆ Ā„46,430/USD$320) I’ve done the longest bulletĀ
train ride from south to north. Now its time to take the internationalĀ
route and journey to neighbouring countries This time: Seoul, South Korea. I’ve been to South Korea but notĀ the Capital so I am excited. Day 1 The journey will start from Tokyo Station. My first train ride will be onĀ the first bullet train route. We’ll ride the Nozomi ServiceĀ
67. 10:48 – 13:00 (132 Minutes) The fastest method to Kyoto. I’m here at Japan’s biggest Station Bento shop to pick up a bento. I didn’t realize that these beef tongueĀ
bentos were actually calorie friendly. 525 calories! I wasn’t able to find GreekĀ
yogurt so I bought this. Trains are extremely frequent on this route At peak hours there is aĀ
train for every 3-5 minutes. Even on a weekday, the window seats are popularĀ
especially trains departing before noon. It’s quite hard to book the e window seat. So my seat will be on the furthest car 16 seat 4E. The N700A series bullet trains thatĀ
runs at speeds of 300km/h (186mph) The Shinkansen might genuinely be oneĀ
of the safest places on the planet. In over 60 years and moreĀ
than 12 billion passengers, there have been zero passenger deathsĀ
due to derailments or collisions. Historically, 37 people wereĀ
killed by a vending machines. Vending machines might be a threat toĀ
humanity more than a fast piece of metal. I must pay my respect to vending machines. Thank you for supporting the economy. All hail vending machines. The journey has started! Departing Tokyo Station on time. As I mentioned previously, Seat E is the best seat for Mt. Fuji. If you’re quick enough, you can also see Tokyo tower. Ordinary cars are arranged in a 3+2 configuration. I like seat E. Most Shinkansen passengers are business travelers. but the tourists do stand outĀ with their big boy luggage’s. 20 minutes into the trip. The scenery has gradually shifted fromĀ
concrete towers to suburban views. Can I eat my meal before Nagoya station. Beef tongue bento. It’s the self heating types. Almost all beef tongue bentosĀ
are self heating meaning. It’s like igniting dynamite. There’s limestone inside the Lunch box. Airplanes won’t allow this, a train exclusive. Let’s see if we have anythingĀ
similar in South Korea. 5-6 minutes. While I was dabbling with the beef tongue,Ā Ā  the scenery has turned from concreteĀ
jungle to a lush rural landscape. Look at that! The famous (not really famous) fake Mount Fuji. Sitting on the right side (seat A)Ā
to catch glimpses of Sagami bay. Today’s beef tongue tastes like a Big Mac. By the way, the wifi is actually bad. Not good. The most scenic part of this trip. The Mount Fuji. Wow! Absolute views! This is beautiful. We’re in Shizuoka now with ruralĀ
plains and agricultural land. Occasional mountains and rivers. I’m at the restroom, comparing bullet trainsĀ Ā  with the Korean bullet trainĀ
we will ride in a few days. Normal c tier toilet. It does come with a seat cleaner. And has gender separated toilets. And large luggage space. More comparison subjectsĀ
for the Korean bullet train. The seats have, Tray table, Power outlet. Net. Window and Shade. Nagoya. It’s Japans fourth largestĀ city, and home of Toyota. Lake Biwa, the biggest lake in Japan can sometimes be seen on a clear day. !!! And just like that, we’ve made it to Kyoto. 13:00 Well, I’m first going to drop off myĀ luggage because my hotel is nearby. This APA hotel is a trap. It doesn’t have a sauna or onsen. This APA, a few meters away does. Dropped off my luggage, here we go. Welcome to the old capital of Japan. The cultural soul of the country, a livingĀ
museum of temples, traditions, and tea. Speaking of tea, Can I get a matcha drink. I had 2 sips and it’s gone? What the heck!!! I’ve been to the golden pavilion, the bambooĀ
forest, and the Kiyomizu temple, so this time… I’m going to head to the shrineĀ
known for its 1000 gates. Fushimi Inari shrine, the head shrine ofĀ
all 30,000+ Inari shrines across Japan. The shrine was founded beforeĀ
Kyoto became the capital. The main deity is the god of rice and agriculture. When Fushimi Inari Shrine wasĀ
founded rice was not just food, but the foundation of the entireĀ
economy, culture, and politics. Rice was the main form of currency.Ā
Taxes were often paid in rice. This is the main shrine. Most people will pray forĀ
good business or good harvest. I’m going to pray for a goodĀ
lunch because I’m hungry. Praying for good lunch. This is the famous red thousand gates. Very instagram friendly. but quite crowded during the day. Each gate costs anywhere fromĀ
„400,000 to over „1 million. You can see the donors
names carved into the gates. ā€œIf you go up higher into the mountain,Ā Ā  you’ll find more weathered gates,Ā
which have a mystical, ancient feel.ā€ Ok that sounds cool ā€œThe trail is about 4 km round-trip,Ā
taking 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace.ā€ 2-3 hours??? That doesn’t sound cool. I will hike some other time. There is an interesting stone at Fushimi Inari called the Omokaru‑ishi Feels lighter than expected? Your wish is more likely to come true. Feels heavier? It signifies your wish might take more effort or time. As heavy as an infant. It’s a hot day today. Apparent temperature of 38 degrees. (help me.) I bought an official torii gate for Ā„1,000. Most will hang it for wishes, but I’ll bring it home as a souvenir. Better than anything from the souvenir shop. I’m sure you’ve all been wondering about these foxes. These are divine deliverers, uber drivers for the god of rice. These foxes are paid in deep fried tofu. You can get some deep fried tofuĀ
dishes at the base of the shrine. Inari sushi. Rice wrapped in sweet fried tofu pouches. A juicy, slightly chewy sushi. I made it to a restaurant for lunch. Wait this place is kinda cool. Even it has a garden view. Why is no one here. Maybe because it’s 3pm. I got the Uji set. Came with tempura and green tea soba. Soba infused with tea. Apparently you can get a gentle tea aroma. ? I don’t know. Tastes great on a hot summer day like today. What is this, Why is it, So long looool. Might be a bit expensive, but nice views. Thanks for the food. There should be a famous temple. Yes a temple this time. In walking distance from here. I’ve heard good things aboutĀ
this temple so I’ll head there. Tōfuku-ji Temple It’s part of the 5 zen temples, The temple is home of theĀ
oldest Sanmon, Mountain gate. It’s as tall as a cruise ship. (Human for scale.) Most other ancient gates were lost to fire,Ā earthquakes, or war. Tōfuku-ji’sĀ has survived nearly 600 years. It’s the oldest by elimination. Visiting Tōfuku-ji Temple in the summerĀ
isn’t as famous as its autumn foliage season, But it does have some nice lush greens. Now heading to the center ofĀ
Kyoto for the Gion Festival. During the entire month of July,Ā
Kyoto holds the Gion Festival, one of Japan’s longest runningĀ
festival, with 1000+ years of history. ? ? ??? ā€œthere isn’t a parade of floats todayā€ ā€œThe festival has technically begun, but it’s like going to an orchestra andĀ
hearing the first plucks of strings.ā€ Nothing really going on yet. Too early for anything significant. I might not be able to see any parades but thisĀ Ā  is where they perform the ritualĀ
marking the start of the festival. It’s not always opened to the general public. Ok what do I do now. I’ll head to the hotel and dive into bed. Just kidding I went out to eat first. I want to eat meat. What the heck. Momotaro x silver axe collab? When you don’t know what to eat, SUSHIRO is there to save the day. Sushi. By the riverside. Good stuff. Today was a hot day. It still is hot. 34c. I think I’m getting usedĀ
to sweating from the sauna. It no longer feels horrible to sweat. If you’re coming to Japan in theĀ
summer, be prepared to sweat. I advise going to a local saunaĀ
beforehand for like a week. they really do have shrines everywhere in Kyoto. I’ve made it back to my hotel. I’ve heard that hotels in Kyoto were expensive,Ā
but I was able to book this place for under Ā„6000. “Holy moly is the room small.” Not like I need that much space. I can open my luggage here. It even has a grand bath with sauna facilities. I’m going to bathe and sleep. Well today was a pretty nice day. Good night. Day 2 Good morning people. Good morning, Greek yogurt is great. Today we are traveling from Kyoto to Fukuoka. Fukuoka is the biggest cityĀ in Kyushu, Japans 3rd largest island. Know as the gateway to Asia for itsĀ
proximity with neighboring countries. Historically, it was Japan’s front line in dealingĀ
with foreign envoys, trade, and even invasions. Today I’m going to invade theĀ
city myself and enjoy its food. I will be riding Nozomi 15, 10:25 -> 13:09 Car 3 seat 8A. As expected, seats E were all occupied. I got seat A. This is the newest iterationĀ
of the Japanese Bullet train. The N700S. Good bye Kyoto. Shin osaka station. This is the starting of theĀ
Sanyo bullet train route and the end of the Tokaido bullet train route. The Sanyo bullet train routeĀ and is actually the second oldest bullet train route in the world. Apparently, you can see the FamousĀ
Seto inland sea from the Bullet train? Highly doubtful. Is it even true? I told you all. Still no view. I might have been scammed. Guys never give up because… Well it was true. You can see the sea from the bullet train. What I learned from this journey is that. You never give up. Lots of tunnels. Compared to the Tokyo – Osaka line which is 25%Ā
tunnels, the Osaka – Kyushu line is 50% tunnels. Just shows you how mountainous Japan can be. The lush greenery is beautiful isn’t it. The bullet train is speeding past Japan. For breakfast I’ll eat the localĀ
favorite, leave wrapped sushi. It’s like the traditional wayĀ
of preserving and eating sushi. It’s wrapped in some leaves. Kaki no ha zushi was born out of necessityĀ
during a time when there was no refrigeration, especially in the mountainous inland regions. Smells like vinegar like most sushi. Shrimp was not used traditionally. even the persimmon leaf itself hasĀ
natural antibacterial properties. How did the people back then figure it out. Conger eel is also a modernĀ
adaptation of traditional Edo sushi. What’s next what’s next. Mackerel! Mackerel is the one of the original. Salmon is not one of the original. salmon was never eaten raw before the 1980s in Japan. Wait what. This is the mackerel. What was the other one??? Anyways this is the original version. If not the original, at leastĀ
the most popular back in the day. Back in the day. Passengers were allowed to smoke even at the seat. I didn’t live in those times. So I don’t know but nowĀ
bullet trains are smoke free. Let’s compare the new bullet train to the older. The seats are brighter. The train car brighter. Trays, brighter? Outlets, closer. Net, newer. Windows, smaller? Storage space, nice. Gender separated toilet, nice. The toilet has been upgraded. Bidet, and wowza. Semi autonomous open and closing function. Hahaha This is cool. Now arriving in Hiroshima. This year marks the 80th yearĀ
since the atomic bombing. Hiroshima’s Carp stadium. Hiroshima Station. It also marks the halfway point of the route. Just before passing Tokuyama stationĀ
is the Shunan industrial area. It’s like the Disneyland of material making. Something you own might beĀ
made in these factories. More tunnels. We passed Shin Shimonoseki station, meaningĀ
we are almost crossing the new Kamnon tunnel. It’s an undersea tunnel connecting mainĀ
land Japan to Kyushu (3rd largest island). Its undersea section is only 800m longĀ showing how close the two islands are. For comparison the channel tunnel connectingĀ
France to England is 40x in length. It might be the shortest underseaĀ
section ever used by bullet trains. And just like that we made it to Kyushu. Yay Kyushu. And just like that, 553 kilometers,Ā
2 hours and 30 minutes later, I’ve crossed the entire western spine of Japan,Ā
from the heart of Kansai to the gateway of Kyushu. A very comfortable ride. Hakata station. We did it There’s a big float. This is the Kazariyama float, part of the HakataĀ
Gion Yamakasa festival held annually in Fukuoka. ONE PIECE is real. There are a total of 17 floatsĀ
around town in this time of year. I think I’ll tour around the town today. Now I’m going to head to my next hotel. Dormy inn Hakata, Gion. This is my room. It doesn’t even have a shower or a bathtub. It would be a miserable stay, but it’s Dormy Inn. Too be honest I like this betterĀ
than that small unit bath. There’s a bathhouse. Lots of complimentary things here to enjoy. Ramen, ice cream, sauna, bath house. It has it all. It did cost a fortune though. About Ā„11000. Twice as the cost of the APA hotel. I don’t know why but the hotels here in FukuokaĀ
are like 1.5 to 2 times more expensive than Kyoto. I’ll use the bicycle to get around town. 1 float. 2 float. 3 float. 4 float. 5 float. 6 float. I found 7 floats out of the 17. Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for Food? Ramen? Yes. Wait, actually no. This is Fukuoka famous spicy cod roe. Fukuoka became the birthplace of spicyĀ
cod roe in Japan for its location. After WWII, a Korean-Japanese man namedĀ
brought the idea from Korea and adapted it. It’s apparently called aĀ
ā€œmyeongran-jeotā€ in Korea. I’m going to have to find theĀ
original Korean version and eat it. I got the spicy cod roe lunch box. I was looking for a nice place to spend. Since it’s a fish dish, I wantedĀ
to eat it close to a body of water. Hakata intentional port. I will be heading to SouthĀ
Korea tomorrow from this port. You see this cod roe? You were suppose to be swimming in theseĀ
oceans, and not swimming in my stomach. Your retirement plan gotĀ
upgraded to premium white rice. This is life, cod roe. You could’ve been swimmingĀ
worldwide like this cruise ship. Well, thanks for the food. It was delicious. I want to head to the famous streetĀ
food place, sometime after sunset. It’s walking distance from here. So this is the famous street stall, street. But it’s not even opened yet. open usually around 6:30–7pm andĀ
close around midnight or 1am. Going to eat something before hand. What should I eat. This is perfect. There are 3 things you mustĀ
try when you come to Hakata That is Tonkotsu ramen Cod roe And Motsunabe It’s Offcial hotpot. ā€œIt’s a hearty stew served inĀ
a big iron pot at your table, with the star being chewy,Ā
fatty beef or pork offalā€ Well it doesn’t look tooĀ
expensive so let’s give it a try. Post-WWII Fukuoka, like much ofĀ
Japan, was short on food and money. Meat was scarce, but offalĀ
was cheap and nutritious. Korean influence also played aĀ
role with many Korean-JapaneseĀ Ā  families living in the area and wereĀ
already skilled in offal cuisine. Wow another Fukuoka delicacy with Korean roots. Very interesting indeed. Wait. This is actaully good. There are many ingredients outside of the offcial. Cabbage, Garlic chives, Tofu,Ā Garlic slices, Chili peppers. I can’t tell if it’s health but it was filling. Good food thanks for the food. To be honest Better than tonkotsu ramen. Glad I tried it out. I downloaded an app and got their spice for free. A spicy souvenir! I’m seeing the food stalls. Cool But I’m full now. I’ll enjoy the vibes. 9:00pm. Sauna and bath time. What a good hot spring Left the sauna feeling totally refreshed and recharged. Get use to high temperature for the humidĀ
hot weather of Japan is actually working. I ate dinner to early. Good things there’s late night food. It’s the kind of comfort that melts your stress away after a long day. A light and gentle soy sauce ramen with a clean, soothing flavor. This soup is good after a long day of walking. It’s hard to believe this rich, authentic flavor is free. To think I won’t be able to eat ramenĀ
when I arrive in South Korea tomorrow. Sob sob. Thanks for the food. Now I can sleep. Good nighters. Day 3 Good morning, Greek yogurt is great as well. Today is the day we cross internationalĀ
waters to Busan, South Korea. There was a… …pagoda in the middle of the city. I’ve made it to the ferry terminal. The check in time for the ferry is also nice. 10:30-11:30. Good for passengers checkingĀ
out from both 10am and 11am. A few years ago, there were otherĀ
options like the Queen Beetle service. Was permanently discontinued due toĀ
leaking hull with no viable repair option. There was an engine trouble when I wasĀ
trying to board on my first attempt, maybe that was foreshadowing. So I’m going to be using this ferry. The Camellia Line. A joint venture founded by JapaneseĀ
and Korean shipping company. A 170 m ferry with up to 522 passengers. This is the schedule, 12:30 – 18:30. Today will be a ferry ride day. Won’tĀ be able to do much other than that. Let’s Check in. My room is 432. I can choose which ever bed I want. Is this a first come first serve type of bedding. A Sponge that thinks it’s a pillow. A blanket sheet. Blanket. Matress. There’s even a closet. And the storage is quite large. 12:15pm. The ferry is departing already!? I guess it’s the airplane, leaveĀ
as early as possible logic. Not like the bullet trains. Good bye Fukuoka. The sun hurts. Can I go back home. I don’t know if the people ofĀ
Korea are Allergic to the sun, There’s no one out in the sundeck. Fukuoka tower and the PayPay dome. It does look cool like a drain plug. I think the vendor is now open. Lots of Japanese snacks. Conbini store prices. Hello kitty goods. A fox but it’s not deep fried tofu udon. There was even a vendingĀ
machine with food and alcohol. I got chicken. The ferry uses Japanese yen. Don’t know if it’s because theĀ
ferry is traveling from Japan. For a Japanese ferry the ferry itself is cateredĀ
towards non Japanese mainly Korean passengers. The staff do speak both KoreanĀ
and Japanese it seems like. I also bought noodles, I needĀ
to find the water dispenser. I found it. Wait. I realized. I can’t read Hangul. It says carbs. Wait I think it’s carbonara what the heck. This is the only way of figuring it out. Using technology. The screen froze My technology is useless in the sea. It’s over. I’m using all my tools, going outside. Let’s gooooo. I win. What is this untamed hose. Traveller vs 100 degrees pipe. Well that was easy. Tamed it. I win. Now 4 minutes. In you go. In you go part 2. I don’t have a stick to mix with. There must be chopsticks at the restaurant. It also happens to be theĀ
location to microwave my chicken. While the chicken is being microwaved. I mix my noodle. 100% efficiency. Fukuoka is far away now. Here’s my lunch. Spicy carbonara And chicken. Let’s eat. The reason why I’m able to eatĀ
in the restaurant is because… The restaurant is closed. There is no longer a lunch service. Oh no these noodles are spicy. Upset stomach confirmed for tomorrow. I’m going to tour the ferry decks until I feel like donating my spicy noodles to the circle of life. There are 3 decks. This is deck 3. On this floor there’s a vendor, Information center. Vending machines. Restaurant. It does look like they serve food likeĀ
curry rice during the overnight route, (busan to Fukuoka route.) There are massage chairsĀ
placed all over the ferry. There’s as some place to relax. Next up is the game corner. Wait this is cool for Ā„100. Even this is Ā„100. There’s even a karaoke room. And this was surprising. A grand bath. Wowza. Yes there’s also a women’s bath. This is where I faced andĀ
conquered the language barrier. The pantry. The second lowest room classĀ
are like sleeper capsules. This is pretty cool. Deck 4. Lots of rooms on this floor. This side is for 1st class rooms. It smells like the library. I found an observatory room. It’s so far off to the main deck. Not one person has found it yet. I’ll call it Newfoundland. I’m basically the aboriginals of this room. Not a single piece of land in sight. Someone finally found it. It’s over. Some other life form has found the room. Time to head to deck 5. Deck 5 has lots of royal, and deluxe class rooms. There I found more and coin returnable lockers. It’s still hot outside. Still no sign of land. The price says 12,000 but it was cheaper online. I got myself ice cream. It’s quite chilly in the ferry, I could definitelyĀ
be comfortable wearing a long sleeve shirt. I’m getting sleepy. I got 10 minutes of sleep. I need an adrenaline spike. Time to start working out my wallet. If I don’t get a prize, I’m going to buy the hello kitty souvenir. Please I haven’t played Mario kart world yet. Let me please get the mushroom head. I don’t think the kart isĀ
big enough for the crane. Maybe baby Peach. Did you see the technique. A replay please. I might be good at this. Here’s my souvenir. I thought it would be a fake considered theĀ
job of that face, but I think it’s official. 2008? It’s been sitting insideĀ
the crane game for 17 years. Compared to the other crane, there’s no wall. Come here before it gets patched. It’s hard to race yourself right, I’m going for the Donkey Kong. Ok that kart might be a bit heavy. SO CLOSE. Maybe I can hook it onto that. It’s over. I can feel it. (It ain’t over until it’s over) … When you consider I got this baby peach for Ā„500. I think I won. While I was fighting the crane game. It appears that the ferry hasĀ
travelled close to Tsushima. The island of Tsushima lies roughlyĀ
halfway between South Korea and Japan. It’s the only place in Japan where you can seeĀ
both mainland Japan and Korea with the naked eye. Why am I so sleepy… Looks like this ferry uses the Japanese outlets. There’s only like 4 JapaneseĀ
passengers on this ferry. Going to rest for a bit. Good nighters. Slept for an hour. I dashed out of the room because IĀ
was connected to international data. There it is. Still quite far away. But there it is. Busan at sight so let’sĀ
prepare myself for the city. I was able to exchange Ā„3000 for 27,000 won at the terminal. Is that good. I don’t know. The Korean won is quite colorful. And apart from the blue guy, The others looks like they’reĀ
smiling with their teeth out, But they’re not. Especially this guy. I don’t know how much it would costĀ
to get the ic card/t money card. Hope this is enough. Those Mountainous Coastlines, theĀ
cluster of high rise buildings. There isn’t a doubt. It’s Busan. That’s a lot of cranes. It is the 6th largest port in the world. Busan harbor bridge. 6 hours went by quickly. The water was calm. And just had enough time to rest. Nice relaxing way to travel. It’s the Busan port international. Busan, south Korea’s second largest city. ??? Wait. It’s the queen beetle. I thought it died?! That’s the new Osaka Busan route ferry/cruise. Good weather, slept well, it’s a good day. Busan Port International Passenger Terminal. Clap clap clap clap clap. One more clap. I need to buy an ic card. I heard I can buy it in the convenience stores. Last time I didn’t even have cash soĀ
I struggled to get around the city. Lesson learned. Walk my way from a bridge. I made it to Busan station. Still haven’t bought money card. Now that I’m ready to explore theĀ
city, I’m heading to my hotel. My hotel will be that. The Toyoko inn. It’s a Japanese chain hotel. I remember passing by it during myĀ
previous stay and I wanted to try it out. It was about „7000 for a nights stay. I check in and apparently I
can buy my t money card here. Let’s gooo. It’s actually my first time inĀ
my life to stay at a Toyoko inn. Very normal. I didn’t think I’ll beĀ
seeing a unit bath in Korea. Well. It’s almost 9pm. Maybe get food. I made it to Seomyeon. It’s kinda scary here. Trying out the food that represents a country. Wow maybe I’ll get meat. Ramen. I never said what country. I just wanted to know what kind ofĀ
Japanese food our neighbours are eating. I’ve had some questionable ramenĀ
in Europe so this is going to be A good clarification on closing theĀ country the better it’s adopted. And with that I can also know the levelĀ
of Korean food at home back in Japan. I’ll try out the regular tonkotsu ramen. No fancy avant garde ramen. 9500 won. The dumpling is here! (4000won) Ginger? Bro thinking’s he’s a takoyaki. This is the Hakata tonkotsu ramen. As a ramen connoisseur, this isĀ
my 5th country in eating ramen in. Looks pretty decent. Has all the ingredients necessary. Ok let’s eat. I’ll try the soup first. There’s sesame seeds inside. Tastes garlicky. And the chashu. Is great, charred. And the noodles. Well it’s Hakata noodles. Wasn’t asked the hardness, oh well. What about the egg. Also you get infinite kimchi here. This paying system was cool. No need to whip out cash like in Japan. Good “Hakata” Tonkotsu Ramen. Thanks for the food. To those who aren’t saying to eat KoreanĀ
food, don’t worry I have days left in Korea. It’s getting late. I’m tired now. Good night. Day 4 Good morning from Busan. No Greek yogurt today. This is what Korea looks like in the morning. Today I was planning stay here for Busan for aĀ
day, but I remembered that I’ve been here before. Today, we’re going to head from BusanĀ
to the capital of South Korea, Seoul. I did find some cool places to go like this place. Like this Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. I promise I’ll be back to Busan,Ā
so please exist when I come back. The journey will being from Busan Station. Here is the route. A bullet train ride covering a distance of 417 km. Abourt 2.5 to 3 hours depending on the trainĀ like Nozomi and Hikari I suppose. KTX 172. 10:17-13:39 The tickets were actually hard to get. All the morning ticketsĀ
were sold out when I booked. Not just window seats. By morning there were cancellations soĀ
I was able to refund and change my seat. It’s built like an airport. Like the Japanese bullet train, there are noĀ
restaurant cars, so I’ll by something beforehand. That has to be the convenience store. I can’t read a single wordsĀ
so I’m just going to wing it. I only have a less than 10Ā
minutes to board or I’ll be late. Platform 10. I guess there is no setĀ
platform that it arrives at. All random. Do I just go in. There were no gates. This is my train. Here is our bullet train. It’s known as the KTX. There are mainly 4 types ofĀ
KTX currently running in Korea. The one we’re riding is their oldest model. That was launched in April of 2004. I was able to book the first class cars. Car 2 seat Only 1000 yen plus from the regular class. There is no non-reserved seating. Seat reservation is required. And it’s a nice 1 + 2 configuration. Nice for solo travelers. The train has departed Busan station. Why is the acceleration slow. It might be because the originalĀ
KTX is a grandma of its kind. Hurray. We leave behind Busan, 6thĀ
busiest port in the world. ??? What in the Thomas the engine is this. There is a power outlet, But only for even numbered seated passengers. That’s odd. Also the hooks are monopolized. Diabolical. For odd numbered passengers. You get to monopolize the window. The window shade. And the air conditioning. Seems like a fair trade off. This train has 18 cars per set. But some KTX can have 20 cars per set. We’ll soon be serving at Ulsan station. Ulsan station. Home to Hyundai Motor. For the seat functions. Net. Tray table. A large tray table. There is a headphone jack. Is this a bottle opener? There is also a foot rest, but there’s so much leg room. it’s basically onlyĀ useable for long legged people. And the seats itself feelĀ
very normal, but comfortable. Big Yakult (1,300 won) Onigiri (1,600 won) Kimbap (4,800 won) Before I eat, can I talk about one thing. The table is so far away. I have to crouch to eat. First class problems. From Dongdaegu → Cheonan-Asan, theĀ
train can reach up to speeds of 305km/h. Alright the guessing game starts. What could the ingredients be. The label is red. Meaning it could be kimchi, But it does have 210kcal. Which is too much. The sodium is quite high so it must be salty food. This is a meat or fish filling. Cod roe? Bulgogi? I think or salmon. But before that we made it to dong daegu station. Lots of tower apartments. Ok let’s open. Wait what. Number 2 and 3 is on the opposite sideĀ
compared to an onigiri bought in Japan. Is it because words are writtenĀ
from left to right. I don’t know. Wait what. The rice itself is mixed with kimchi. I don’t think there’s a filling. Tastes great. Next is kimbap. And this big Yakult drink. I always thought that kimbap wasĀ
vegetarian sushi but there’s meat insides. The train slows down. The reason why this happens isĀ
because it’s running on Korails, legacy line with maximum speeds of 135km/h. The train is quiet and there’s no major shaking. A nice ride. I went to the washroom but it wasn’t the cleanest. There was also this water serverĀ
for first class passengers. What’s the difference between 1 2 and 3. Free water? Thank you very much. Much like Japan only 30% ofĀ
the of the land is habitable. For that reason there areĀ
tower apartments everywhere. For a mountainous country,Ā
there weren’t as much tunnels. I heard there used to be restaurants on the KTXĀ
but has been replaced with vending machines. There should be a vending machine somewhere. There was a book shelf. It says first class. Can I take one. I FOUND IT. There’s a charging station as well. They also sell chargers. I was able to purchase a snack. Wait what. … RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT THIS. Ahahahahahaha. We made it to Seoul. 20 minutes until arrival. Crossing the most important river in South Korea. The river that divides the northernĀ
old city to the southern new city. Arriving at Seoul Station. 3.5 hours of train riding. !!! Nice weather. 28 c degrees. I want go to that famous palace andĀ
the Korean version of the Sannnenzaka. I don’t want to carry around this luggageĀ
so I’ll find my hotel and drop it off. I booked my hotel in Dongdaemun. It’s a nice location withĀ
many different subway routes. Once again, it’s Toyoko inn. I thought it was this one. But it was the other one. I can’t eat a full meal so I’mĀ
going to a famous nearby market. The dongdaemun market. What is that. There’s a big steel soap thingĀ
in the middle of the city. This place is bigger than I expected. Made it to the market. The Dongdaemun Market one of the largestĀ
and most famous shopping districts in Korea. (This is not the market.) This is the market I was expecting food but I got textiles😭😭😭 According to ChatGPT there’sĀ
a food court on the 6th floor. ChatGPT was right. I got the spicy cold noodles. I’m ready for my stomach to explode. Do you like… Put this in the noodles. Here goes nothing… Ok this noodle is long. Good stuff Is this like the udon of Korea. I also got free sides. What is this grass. Ok this actually tastes like grass. I’ll try the other thing. What could it be. Fish cake. Right after this I’m headingĀ
to Gyeongbokgung Palace. I have to arrive before 5pm to enter. Thanks for the food! Now heading to the Gyeongbokgung Palace. The buckingham palace of South Korea. It was built over 600 years ago by some king. The structure has experienced damage several times in the past, The structure has suffered damage multiple times in history, including during the Japanese occupation, and restoration efforts continue to this day. This is pretty cool, If you’re wearing traditional wear, free entry. I am not wearing it so I’m going to pay. 3000 won. Seoul is pretty mountainous. This is the main throne hall. This is the kings office. Made it back to my hotel. My leg hurts. I’m going to go eat dinner now. I came to this place, Not sure what it serves, probably meat. Pork bulgogi. I wasn’t able to get a seat 😭😭😭 Starting from 2 servings 😭😭😭 They waiter game me these gummies 😭😭😭 ā€œPlease order multiple servings.ā€ ā€œCan order single servingsā€ This is the place. The chosen place. And it looks good as well. This place serves dak galbi. I’ll order the simple dakĀ galbi with mozerella cheese. Here it is. Ok this looks good. Do I mix. Help me. There were free things, I hope it’s free. Where’s the meat. It’s basically stir friedĀ
vegetables featuring meat lol. Is that mint… 🫨🫨🫨 I thought it was just a leaf. What. It’s alright I guess. A majority of the food is vegetarian. This is the pepper lunch of Korea. Not bad but not good enough. Thanks for the food. It’s close to 8pm but it’s Bright out. Trying out the 7 eleven in Korea. This is what I got. Let’s open these up. Welcome back to the PokĆ©mon card opening channel. At least I got a lapras. This is the rarest card I unpacked. Apparently the Japanese versionĀ
is worth 50 yen Or 500 won. Ok why does it taste likeĀ
hand sanitizer what the heck. Well. Good night. Good morning from Seoul. No greek yogurt today. Today we head back home. I can’t believe I only started the trip 4 days ago. Four days felt like weeks. Got lots of souvenirs, food, and experienced new culture. Now I head back to Tokyo that took 4 days in less than 3 hours. Made it back to Tokyo Safely! Thanks for watching! Have a nice day!

  1. The sight of the Cha Soba took me back to 1st time in Kyoto and the 1st try of Cha Soba a dish I try to get each time I visit Japan

  2. The amount of English printing always blows me away. Its not as though you see Chinese writing internationally even though there are like 1.6 billion of them travelling around. I guess western countries just have so much money its worth it to print English everywhere to make it easy for them to shop

  3. This was a great trip. The shrines were just breathtaking. Beautiful history. It seemed like it would be easier to find your way around Japan that South Korea. Appreciate the sense of humor 😊.

  4. Love your stuff. Had a lot of trouble watching this one visually, as you kept moving in and out with stuff right in the camera. FYI. For some people this causes a reaction similar to motion sickness. Peace

  5. Solo-san! I am always so happy to see a new video from you. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. šŸ™‚

  8. I miss the early days of this channel when your videos were less than 45 minutes long. A 90 minute video is now too tiring and time-consuming to watch anymore, I'm sorry šŸ™

  9. Just Wow! I loved the KTX in Korea – what an amazing way to travel cross country. Much faster and easier than flying!
I envy your wonderful trip. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  11. What a great trip, I think this is great route for someone who bored about flying between two capitals. But I'm curious, can the duration of the trip is shortened? Like you can hop on into Sanyo Shinkansen after arriving from Tokkaido Shinkansen and taking Overnight Ferry from Fukuoka?
