Is Japan living in 2050? They’re literally turning trash into water and electricity. Transforming Hello Kitty into algae and protein. This entire building can’t even be taken apart and reused. Japan is ahead of its time except in this area 😯 Part 26 of our adventures at the Osaka World Expo 2025! 🇯🇵

We visited the Japan Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo, and enjoyed the exhibit overall and its focus on sustainability. There were 3 areas focused on showcasing how the pavilion was turning waste into useful things like electricity ⚡ and water 🌊, discussing innovations like algae protein, as well as current sustainable techniques used in Japanese craftsmanship like floating bridges, and modular flexible construction to reuse materials 🏗️

What we didn’t expect to hear about though, is the Japan Pavilion workers had to unionize because of their working conditions. The staff standing outside, guiding us within the pavilions with constant smiles on their faces ☺️, were having issues with heatstroke 🥵, had short breaks and didn’t have enough time to go to the bathroom 🚽

While it’s rough being a tourist at the Expo constantly on your feet the whole day exploring, it’s even more tough being one of the Expo staff members, so hopefully things change for the better so they can get the support they need 👍

Tip: We recommend getting to the Japan Pavilion by 7-7:15 PM if you’re trying to do walk-ins at night. They cut off the walk-in lines early ‼️

📍Japan Pavilion 🇯🇵, located on the East Gate side (next to Women’s Pavilion)
– Walk-in available only between 9:30-10:30 AM or 7:30-8:30 PM. Otherwise, reservation required
– Stamp is outside, past the small souvenir shops
