Climbing Mount Fuji in 2025 🇯🇵 (Yoshida Trail)
Good day and welcome back to another video. We’ve just arrived in a town called Fuji Kawaguchi Co. And right here we have Lake Kawaguchi. And from early tomorrow morning, we’re going to take on that in the distance, Mount Fuji. Let’s go get it. All righty. Good morning and welcome to a brand new day. We can see Mount Fuji in the distance. There it is 6:00 in the morning and we are waiting at Mount Fuji station for the bus. Let’s get going. Okay, we’ve made it on the bus. A roundtrip ticket cost 40,000 yen and it takes about an hour to get to the fifth station from Mount Fuji station. [Music] [Music] All righty. So, an hour later and we make it to the fifth station. Check this out. We’ve got a few options over here where you can get some snacks and a few souvenirs. And it looks like over here we can buy our ticket. Last go to top 6 hours come back 4 hours. The top go to eight station here. Go to station in right in left go down. Left go down. Okay. Take picture. [Music] All righty. Well, the ticket to enter is 4,000 yen, and you can buy it at that place back there, or you can reserve them online. And they give you one of these little special yellow tags uh to show that you’ve paid for your ticket and can enter. Here is the official gate up here. Okay, this Okay. All right, they let us in. Let’s get going. So, it is currently 10 to 8 in the morning and it takes about 6 hours to get to the top. So, let’s see if we can get up there a little bit quicker than that. Let’s do it. We are right up in the clouds here. Hopefully uh they clear up and we get some pretty good views later on. Okay. Mount Fuji Summit. Let’s keep going. Good woman. Oh, hi. Oh, hi. Hi. Bye. All right. I don’t know what station this is, but we have a few few toilets here. You can have a quick stop here if you want. And uh you see uh the clouds opening up right there. Can see our first view of Mount Fuji in the distance. How cool is that? Okay. So, another 5.2 km. We’ve done 800 m so far. Let’s keep going. Okay. So, the trail is made up of just like these volcanic rocks. So, it’s making it quite quite challenging uh climbing up to the top. So, it’s going to be like like this the whole way up. I’m probably going to be very tired. Yeah. So, so far the trail is just zigzagging up the side of the mountain here. I’m already already sweating bullets here. Very challenging. This is This is one heck of a challenge, man. Far out. The ground just makes it so challenging. Oh, I’m bugging already. And it’s not even not even a couple of hundred meters. Another another 5 and 1 half hours to go. We’ve got it. Let’s keep going. Okay, we’re just about to hit station number seven at 2,700 m. You can stop there for a bit of a rest if you want to, but we’re going to keep going. Okay, here we’ve got the next challenge. Look how steep this is. Yeah, right. Bit of a hike, eh? Hello. How you good day? And not too far from that station is the next station. We have Got a bathroom you can use here. Two 200 yen to use that. Let’s keep going. Okay. Mount Fuji summit. 3.8 kilometers to go. So we’ve done 2.2 km so far. All right, we’ve made it to the seventh station here. You can have a look inside. You can see the the kind of beds you can get in here. Okay, let’s keep going. Can keep going up this way here. It’s a full sound. Yeah, just like I said. 790 m. Another toilet over there. 200 yen. My watch is saying 2,580. So, I probably have to get it calibrated or something like that. Let’s keep going. Okay, another 100 meters. You make it to the next hut. Bit of an opening there in the clouds there. Look at that. where I went to. Yeah. So, just volcanic rocks all the way up. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t challenging. It is very tough. Okay. Stay away. Yeah. Because only Are they ming Hi kidd. How’s it going? Good. There you go. I am definitely feeling it. What a climb. Hey, check this out. Very steep, very challenging. Just volcanic rock all the way up. What a place, eh? Just stop here for a minute for a quick water break. What a journey it’s been so far. My goodness. This has got to be one of the most challenging hikes I’ve ever done. And we’ve done some challenging stuff on this channel. But yeah, this is uh this is definitely up there. It’s very challenging. Okay, we’re just making it to the eighth station here. We’re breaking free. Finally breaking free from the seventh. All right, here we go. Three hours to the top. Right. So, just stopping here at the eighth station for a bit of a bit of a snack. My u my body is starting to feel the effects of the altitude. So, yeah, it’s best just to best to take our time to go up to the top. Fore. [Applause] Okay, I think I’ve slowly adjusted to the altitude now. I was starting to feel a bit laded and uh my legs were starting to feel a bit wobbly. Um but hopefully hopefully we’ve rested enough at that station there and we can keep on going smoothly. Let’s keep going. Very, very misty up here. Let’s hope Let’s hope the clouds go away. I really want to see a good view up here. What is it? Come on. Got a bit of blue sky over there. Hopefully. Come on. Let it clear up. That’s what we want. Yeah, I reckon it’s going to clear up. Please clear up. Please Yeah. Okay. I don’t know. Let’s Oh, mate. Slow and steady wins the race. You only need an elephant one bite at a time. To build a brick wall, you build it one brick at a time. There’s your motivation for your climb up Mount Fuji. Let’s keep going. Okay, station number eight. 3,000 something meters. We’ve made it. Yeah, seems like um it’s starting to clear up a bit here. We might be in luck. I see some blue sky over there. I think the summit is over here as well, mate. Another toilet over there. 200 yen if you want to use it. Thank goodness for these stations along the way, I tell you. So, I’m literally resting at every second one. So, this is 3,400 m. We’ve got another 370 m to go. Not too far to go. Yeah. So, you really the higher you get up, you really start to feel the effects of the altitude here. I’m starting to feel a little bit laded, a little bit dizzy. My legs a little bit wobbly, but I think from here until the top, we’ve just got to take it really easy, slow and steady. Let’s keep going. Yeah. Ladies and gentlemen, Yeah. Right. Okay. Bit of a rest here. Let my body adapt to the altitude. Oh, wow. Oh, we’ve got about 300 m to go. Not too far to go. A lot of people are saying up the top, uh, you don’t really have a good view of the top. Got all these clouds in the way. Um, but yeah, let’s go check it out. See what it’s all about. We can always come back. If you’re enjoying, if you’re enjoying the climb, let me know. And, uh, yeah, we can come back and do one of the other trails. There’s at least four trails here that we can do. This is the Yoshida trail that we’re doing today. Um, but yeah, we can always come back and do it another time and get some better weather. But yeah, it’s good to see it on a day like this. And um, yeah, anyways, let’s keep going. [Music] [Music] There you go. Yeah. Not far. Yeah. Not far. See the top, I think. I hope. Yeah. 300 m or so. Yeah. Yeah. Nice to meet you, fellas. You, too. Yeah. So, we’ve made it to the ninth station here. About 300 meters to go. Not too far. And uh yeah, what a place, eh? What a place. [Applause] 200 m to the summit. Not too far to go. What a climb. Hey, far out. Oh, mate. That’s a really, really hard feeling to explain. Like, you want to keep going, but your body’s just like, “No, let’s go. We can’t keep going.” Yeah. Such a strange feeling. I’ve never felt that before. I was used to just hiking flat out. But yeah, I’m literally stopping every five minutes, something like that. Maybe even more than that. It is so close yet So far, honestly, the altitude is kicking my ass up here. I am trying my best to get up there. Oh, mate, I’m all wobbly, but we’re almost there. Let’s keep going. Oh, there we go again. I feel really dizzy. This is crazy. I’ve never felt like this in my whole life. Oh, mate. We’re going to make it. We will make it. Let’s go. Good day. How are you? Okay. Almost there. Almost 300 more ft, man. You got Oh, mate. Yeah. Nearly there. Oh, mate. This is so challenging. We made it through the gate. How good does that feel? is okay. We are at the final gate and I am I am wrecked. This is honestly probably the most challenging climb I’ve ever done. Yeah, I don’t like that sound. You can hear the hear the thunder in the distance. Right. [Music] I know the crater’s over there somewhere, but I just really need to sit down and take a bit to breathe before we go check out the crater. Let’s just sit here for a bit. It’s a nice little spot to sit down next to the excavator. Got myself some eggs from the convenience store. Let’s see how these turn out. There you go. Boiled eggs from the convenience store. How good is that? Oh, it’s starting to rain. It is starting to rain. Lightning in the air as well. It’s not good. Okay, one egg. [Music] All righty. It is raining now. How do we look? This is my rain jacket. Uh let’s go find where the the crater is and go have a look at that. I think it’d be good. Yeah, right. Can’t really see it, but it’s good to be here. Finally far out. Can’t believe we’re here. I’ve always wanted to come here and climb this and finally we’re getting to do it. Wow. It’s amazing. You get to the top and the altitude sickness just goes. Wow. But on the way out, mate, I tell you, flipping heck, it was nuts. But anyways, hopefully we can uh get some some good weather coming out here. I’ll stay out here for a bit, maybe take a time lapse and all that kind of thing. But um yeah, let’s have a look at this. Yeah. Right. It’s starting to clear up a bit, but the sound of thunder isn’t good. Uhhuh. Okay. Yep. Time to start the descent. Yay. Okay, we are up the top and it’s starting to open up. Thank goodness. Look at this. That is gorgeous, mate. I am so happy about that. Wow. What a place. Wow. Okay. Well, that’s how the cookie crumbles. And uh yeah, I think uh the hike down is a little bit easier than going up. It took about maybe 5 hours or 5 and 1 half hours to get up the top. It’s going to take about 3 hours to get down the bottom. So, yeah. All right. Good to meet you. See you. What’s your name? I’m Megan. Met Megan. All right. So, we’ve just met Megan on the trail. Hi. And uh she’s got one of these sticks you can buy on the way. And what what tell me about this, Megan. So, uh you get it at the the start of the hike and it’s about I think 4,000 yen. And each station along um the hike, you get a stamp burned into the stick, which is pretty cool. So, nice little momento. They have a fun little flag that you can get and so I was like, “Yeah.” And it’s super helpful for hiking up and down the mountain cuz it’ll like keep you balanced and such. So, highly recommend it. Brain Cash. Awesome. All right. Well, thank you for sharing that with me. Yeah. Yeah. So, on the way down, uh quite fortunate to have the views opening up. How good is that? Yeah. So you can see uh as uh it’s opening up down here. You see uh the trail all the way up. You can see all the huts, the mountain huts, all the different stations there. Very beautiful. All right, let’s keep going. on the way down. It’s uh it’s very tricky, but I feel like I’ve got a method. I’ve come up with a cool method on how to get down. Megan’s got a pretty good method as well. Do you want me to film you skiing? Yeah, why not? Megan’s going to take over the filming from now on. All right. Here you go. All right. Hit it. You can see on me. Hot dogs. Maybe hamburgers. Megan, nice to meet you on the trail today. Thank you very much. Yay. No, but all righty. Well, we are back where we first started this morning. We can see Mount Fuji over here is covered by a blanket of clouds over in the distance. Anyways, I really hope you enjoyed today’s video. Thank you very much for hiking along. Like always, I’ll leave some links in the description box for you to check out. So, go check out all of those. And yeah, I will catch you in the next one. Catch you later.
In this video, we climb Japan’s highest and most iconic mountain – Mount Fuji (富士山) – via the Yoshida Trail, starting from the 5th Station. Located on the Yamanashi side, this is the most popular and accessible route to the summit, with mountain huts, rest stops, and well-marked trails along the way.
The hike begins at the Fuji-Subaru Line 5th Station, situated at around 2,300 metres above sea level. From there, we make the long ascent through volcanic terrain, reaching the summit of Yoshidaguchi Peak at 3,710 metres (the highest peak is Kengamine at 3,775.6m which was closed at the time of recording). After soaking in the views, we descend back to the 5th Station and return by bus to Mount Fuji Station.

Awesome Luke, WELL DONE, anything else after this will be a breeze 🥾🥾😫🏆🥇
PS I felt every step you took and I’m only sitting back and watching, I was a bit anxious for you. 😮🧗♀️🏔️
Mammoth hike Luke with the added challenge of the effects of altitude. You got the job done, and we enjoyed every step! Well done, mate 👏
You attacked it – Well done
What a hike. The trail looks very difficult to climb and glad you made it. I was a bit worried about the height altitude for you, thought you might faint or something. Just be careful.
I completely agree with your statement that when you're near the top, your mind wants to keep going, but your body just says no! haha I climbed Mount Fuji last year via the Subashiri trail. I didn't hike it in one go, as I was a bit cautious since I was solo and lacked experience in high altitude, and I was worried about altitude sickness.. I stayed at the 7th station, then hiked at midnight and reached the summit around 2 AM. Fortunately, I didn't experience any issues; it was normal for me, with no lightheadedness or dizziness. Climbing was somewhat challenging, but I was surprised that going down was much harder than I expected—my toe really suffered! There was a lot of gliding down the sandy and rocky terrain. It was actually fun until it felt endless and my toe hurt at the end. Definitely worth coming back again, though!
Well done! Hope they put in an alpine slide for quicker descent!
well done Luke! and very helpful video, am preparing to hike Fuji next month!!
富士山に登った動画を見て嬉しかったよ。体に気をつけてね。
ルク様、本当に素晴らしくて富士山に登りました。お疲れ様でした
I'll drive
This video randomly popped up and I m glad it did
さすがルークちゃん👍🏻、本当に素晴らしい経験ですね♪。ビデオを撮ってくれたありがとうございました
Another great climb, well done. Do the people who operate the stations live there?
