GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -In the heat of Summer is when Japanese Beetles are most likely to be found in Mesa County. Mesa County put out a call to action about what to do if you see Japanese Beetles.
Japanese are an invasive species that can be very harmful to local agriculture.
“If they’re not treated, it really does play a huge part in agriculture. They’re very devastating to these plants and will eat them clean dry,” said Bobbie Daniel, a Mesa County Commissioner.
Japanese Beetles are about ½ inch long, about the size of a coffee bean. They’re metallic green with copper brown wing covers.
Officials said you can collect them while brushing them in a container. They said you can take them to the Colorado State University Extension Office at 2775 US-50.
Daniel said the county has seen a lot of good results in their efforts to deal with Japanese Beetles, but they’re always monitoring for them.
