🏮At the end of May, Gion at dawn held the first hints of summer. The morning dew barely dampened the cobblestones, and a cool breeze through the vermilion torii gates felt unexpectedly refreshing. Shadows from wooden eaves and swaying noren curtains fell softly, while only the gentle murmur of water and the song of warblers colored the silence. A faint aroma of tea houses drifted through the alleys, blending the season’s scents with centuries of history.

Passing through Kodai-ji and winding from Ninen-zaka to Sannen-zaka, sunlight filtered through lush greenery, casting dappled patterns on moss-covered stone steps. Beneath those shafts of light, the moss gleamed with vivid life. Pausing for a moment, I heard the ridgeline of Higashiyama and distant temple bells merge, as if time itself had slowed to match the rhythm of this place. Every breath felt infused with calm.

When I finally stood on Kiyomizu-dera’s wooden stage, a cool breeze brought the city’s awakening murmur up from the streets below. My chest tightened at the temple’s timeless grandeur, and before me lay Kyoto’s rooftops, veiled in morning mist like a dream. The clear early-summer air and the bright green of new leaves made the view feel alive. Proud of having walked through that tranquil morning, I vowed to hold this memory forever.
