Daegu University’s East Asian Tourism Research Institute announced on the 9th that it held an international tourism event to mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan.
The event, co-hosted by the Japan Gyeongsangbuk-do Tourism Forum and the Northeast Asian Tourism Association, was organized from the 4th to the 6th at Kyushu International University in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, under the theme of “discovering new items for innovative tourism.”
At the event, Hitoshi Hashimoto, a public relations officer in North Gyeongsang Province and chairman of the North Gyeongsang Tourism Forum in Japan, helped promote the new tourist attraction of North Gyeongsang Province to Japan.
This year was a symbolic year of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, and it was a place to reaffirm friendship between the two countries and seek practical directions for tourism cooperation, he said.
This meeting introduced not only tourism but also lifelong education cases linked to local communities. The case of operating a village-building program” was announced as a third-year educational achievement of the honorary doctor’s program at Gyeongbuk Provincial Happy University” run by Daegu University’s Lifelong Education Center.”
Kim Young-kyung, a former adjunct professor of hotel tourism management at Daegu University who is leading the program, said, “The unique lifelong education system in Gyeongbuk is being completed through education in which villagers directly change the region.”
Japanese tourism expert Chika Kamachi drew attention by announcing “how to use applications to attract tourists from Gyeongsangbuk-do.” He added, “It is necessary to develop a dedicated application to raise interest in Korea, the number one country for Japanese foreign visits in 2024, especially North Gyeongsang Province.”
Meanwhile, the Daegu University East Asian Tourism Research Institute was established in 2004 after the first Northeast Asian Tourism Forum held in Dalian, China, and is striving to exchange tourism in Northeast Asia, including the establishment of the Northeast Asian Tourism Association in 2005 and the establishment of the North Gyeongsang Tourism Forum in 2023.
Lee Eung-jin, head of the East Asian Tourism Research Institute at Daegu University, said, “We will build a practical model of Northeast Asian tourism beyond regional tourism and continue to contribute to society with a research philosophy that looks at the global from local.”
