Yokohama Japan vlog🚢 Our Summer Foodie Adventure & Bay Walk Photo tour

Good morning! This is Kate from Keto Tabi Slow Travel. Today we’re off on a “Yokohama Tour: One-Day Trip to Enjoy Peak Summer!” Let’s get started! We’ve arrived—Motomachi-Chūkagai! I can see the gate. There it is! Looks awesome! Right? Wow! So impressive. Chōyō Gate. Nice—so lively! It really is. See the gate we just walked through? That one’s called “Chōyō Gate.” It’s also known as the “Seiryū Gate.” Oh wow! Chinatown has lots of gates, each with its own name. That gate faces east, named after the sunrise that comes from that direction, wishing prosperity for all of Chinatown. Perfect way to kick things off! May our YouTube prosper too! We’re “entering” from the east. Oops—“entering” sounds like breaking in. That’s a “Thief Bridge” joke from Kawagoe. Excuse us for dropping by! The break-in bit came from Kawagoe’s Thief Bridge. Wow, nice! Really nice. But seriously, it’s blazing hot. Isn’t it insanely hot today? Shouldn’t we grab something cold first? No doubt. Chinatown or not— heat leaves no room for debate. Luckily Chinatown has tons of icy sweets. Exactly. You know a lot! Today’s about conquering summer. That’s right. We’ll hit spots you can enjoy even in the heat. Here we are. Hello! First, a quick cool-down. Trying the famous fluffy shaved ice at QQ Yatai Shop No. 2! Delicious. How’s your first kakigōri this year? Super tasty! I can feel my body temperature dropping fast. The high is 35 °C today. So good. Delicious. Yummy. Unlike typical Japanese kakigōri, the ice itself is made from milk, so it’s fluffy, not crunchy. You gotta eat this in summer. Absolutely. The best spice for kakigōri— is the sun. They say hunger’s the best seasoning, but for shaved ice it’s sunshine. Today is perfect kakigōri weather. Seriously. Now that we’re refreshed, let’s officially start. After that quick cool-down. Sounds good. I feel like I can still walk. First proper Chinese dish— soup dumplings? Let’s eat xiaolongbao! With so many restaurants it’s hard to choose, but we’ve found a great dim sum spot. Looks tasty. So, what should we get? They have pan-fried and steamed xiaolongbao. Ah, I love them both. If it ends with “-longbao,” you love it, right? Exactly. Good noticing! When it comes to xiaolongbao, it’s all about Hōtenkaku. Out front they’re sizzling pan-fried dumplings, and the take-out line is always long. But we got seats inside surprisingly quick. Here they are! They look amazing. Piping hot. Let’s eat them while they’re hot. Dig in. Whoa, the broth! Looks so good. So good. The steam is intense. Biting in would’ve been a disaster. Totally. Dangerous. Delicious. Hot! I bet. Super good. The ginger really pops, and pairs perfectly with the rich filling. Isn’t that broth insane? So crazy. Delicious. Let’s try the seafood ones too. Yeah, let’s. Let’s do it. They look fantastic! There’s shrimp in it. Bon appétit. Taste like seafood? Totally! This one’s got meat too, but the shrimp flavor is strong. I’ll try the regular pork one then. Starting with normal. (Splurt!) Broth explosion. I told you it would splatter! Broth everywhere on the table. Yay! It’s beautiful. Soup first. Tasty! Delicious. Then dip it here. So good. Huh? I might be on team steamed. Oh, really? Were steamed xiaolongbao always this good? The pan-fried ones were great too, but two is plenty—they’re heavy. They do pack a punch. I could eat like eight steamed ones. Really? Here comes the mapo eggplant! My favorite! We decided on this dish first. Whenever we hit a Chinese place, I always check— Do they have it? Do they serve mapo eggplant? I check, “Ah, they don’t,” or “Yes! They do,” then decide. I see. So we ordered it. Most places have it though. Probably mapo eggplant— Delicious. Not too spicy—super easy to eat. By the way, you’re wearing glasses today. I had LASIK, so vision’s fine, but I’m super sensitive to UV. These lenses block UV from both front and back. Light from behind reflects into my eyes, and too much UV tires them out, so these protect me. Dual-side coating—amazing, right? Pretty cool. Available at JINS stores nationwide— give them a try! Not sponsored. This street is so deep. Yeah! They’re selling Tai Chi gear. Never seen that before. Nice. All these Asian countries… packed into one street. Here’s another gate. Yep. In 30 minutes from Tokyo you’re in another world—love it. Totally. Feels like a trip. That’s Kanteibyo. Oh, this is it— the temple dedicated to Guan Yu. It’s magnificent. In China he’s revered as the god of merchants, but all I knew was he’s OP in Dynasty Warriors. He swings like this— mows everything down. Right? Because Guan Yu was loyal and righteous, he became a symbol of trust and patron of business. We’re thinking of heading toward the sea, but— It’s hot! So let’s cool down again. Which means— Exactly. Cool down, warm up with dumplings, then cool down again. I’m in. Here we are. Oh! Didn’t know it was here. Meet Fresh, born in Taiwan, is famous for traditional Taiwanese desserts. Choose a base of Taro Balls, Grass Jelly, or Douhua, add three toppings and create your own custom treat! Tapioca, red beans, and douhua— plus taro balls. I don’t really get taro balls though. We also asked for shaved ice on top. I see! Delicious. Good? Tastes like Taiwan! What kind of comment is that? You know, red beans— in Japan we cook them super sweet, like in oshiruko or ohagi. Here they keep more of the bean flavor. I see. First time with taro balls, pronounced “yu-yuan.” Still no idea. Yu-yuan. Uh-huh. Kind of like shiratama mochi. Something you like, right? Exactly. Gets sweet afterwards. Maybe the sweet potato flavor. You really should eat it all together. So good. Are these sunflowers? Looks like it. Aren’t they all facing the sun? With sunflowers, this is the perfect example. Perfect example of what? They tilt so much toward the sun that they flop over— like this. Facing it a bit too hard. These, however, are not sunflowers. Nice. These are wax myrtles. Wow—feels tropical! Lovely. This view is quintessential Yamashita Park. Feels great. How’s the new gear? We picked up the trusty Osmo Pocket! I just thought— Should we ask which is better, Kate-cam or Ikeda-cam? Have viewers vote? For what footage? Flowers. Flowers? Sure. Ready, go! Five minutes later Done! Feeling confident? My theme’s strong—I’ll win. Oh really? We’ll put up A and B— choose without bias. Can I reveal my concept? Go ahead. “The World Through Arrietty’s Eyes.” Watch it as if you’re Arrietty. Great title. What indeed are flowers? Nice title. Tell us in the comments which you prefer! Wow. The view is fantastic. Nice. Didn’t know it was like this. It’s like a playground. Oh! It’s open! Wide open! People are taking wedding photos. You’re right. That’s the bow, huh? Probably. Let’s head over there! Huge! It’s the Asuka III. Apparently the Asuka III is set to launch in late July 2025. That’s what I read. So they’re probably doing final touches now. Yeah. This is the Asuka III. Ta-da! World-exclusive first look! Only showing the outside, though. Plan to board? Nope. None at all. It’s a photo spot. Yeah! Everywhere is so photogenic. Exactly. Video may not do it justice, so should we take photos? Yeah, let’s. Let’s snap some! We made it to the Red Brick Warehouse! We took too many photos at Ōsanbashi, so it’s gotten quite late. Yeah, it’s almost evening— shall we eat? Yeah. Let’s take a break. Butcher Republic at the Red Brick Warehouse is an adult spot for hearty meat and craft beer. After a long walk, nothing beats beer. Cheers to a good day! Glug— Refreshing. Absolutely delicious. We walked all day for this. So true. How many kilometers did we walk? How many steps today? Let’s check. 13,251 steps. Not bad. We did well. Quite a lot. About 10 km. Ten?! But in summer, though midday is hot, the cool evenings feel so nice. Yeah. That “ah, the heat’s easing” feeling. Such a summery salad. Right? Looks great. Remember today’s theme— feel the summer. Delicious! Summer! Feel it? I feel it! Summer! What is this “taste of summer”? Huh? I wonder. Super refreshing. Not sure why but so summery. This looks amazing. Dip it in the sauce. This can’t be bad. Definitely. Let’s eat. Delicious. So good. Love that well-seared flavor. That char, you know. Tasty. Proper meaty meat. The mashed potatoes on the side are great too. So good. These mashed potatoes are amazing. Nice. How is it? So good! Yummm. Isn’t steak perfect for summer? Yeah. Mm-hmm. It’s the “Summer of Steak”! And winter too? Steak all year. Next up? This one is called “Grown-Up Bacon & Eggs.” Bacon, mushrooms, and a soft-boiled egg inside. Wow! Looks great. The egg just said hello. Time to dip. Okay. Looks yummy. Bon appétit. The mushrooms add a nice touch. Sophisticated! Really? Feels grown-up? The bacon is smoked. Ah, that’s why. Super smoky. This is just… Delicious. Ikeda-san, this’ll send you flying. Yum! Beer! So good! Tasty. Ridiculously good. All that walking was worth it. Absolutely. No doubt about it! We ate great food and laughed, spending a summer day in the port town of Yokohama. I feel like nature is most alive in summer. Let’s keep traveling lots this season too.
