Netflix reports that 50% of its global subscribers, or more than 150 million people, regularly stream Japanese anime content. The data is reflected in the fact that 33 anime titles appeared in Netflix’s foreign-language global top 10 rankings in 2024. The streamer disclosed the numbers at last week’s Anime Expo July 3-6 in Los Angeles.
“In 2024, anime was viewed over 1 billion times on Netflix, with viewership tripling over the past five years,” read a Netflix blog post, adding that recent releases have been dubbed in 33 languages.
The streamer disclosed that upwards of 90% of anime streamers watch dubbed content.
“This unprecedented global access breaks down barriers, creating new fans around the world and giving stories the long runway they need to grow,” the blog read.
Recent Netflix anime releases include “Sakamoto Days,” the live-action “One Piece,” “The Summer Hikaru Died,” “Delicious in Dungeon,” and the upcoming “My Melody & Kuromi,” debuting on July 24. Other pending anime titles include “The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity,” “Leviathan,” “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2,” season two of “Pokémon Concierge” and season three of “Record of Ragnarok,” among others.
