Tokyo’s Most INSANE Neighborhood? Inside Harajuku
Hi everyone, welcome to my channel. Today I’m taking you to explore Harajuku, one of Tokyo’s weirdest and most iconic neighborhoods. We’re starting the day with something calm: let’s head to the Meiji Shrine. This is the entrance to the shrine, near the station. The path in the park is super relaxing, surrounded by tall trees. These are sake barrels from different regions of Japan. Purification ritual before entering the shrine. We’ve arrived at the shrine. It’s really huge. Of course, it’s packed with tourists. This is a sacred tree. Here you can write a good luck wish and hang it. The shrine feels very spiritual and solemn. If you want, you can also collect the shrine stamp. Outside, there’s a souvenir shop. This stall sells all kinds of herbs. You can find everything here. Great for souvenirs. I grab a tiny bonsai. Couldn’t resist. It’s getting hot. Here’s a small stand that sells yuzu tea! Refreshing and perfect. Meiji Shrine is a must-visit in Tokyo. Just like the next place we’re going to. We leave the shrine and dive into the chaos of Takeshita Street. Among lights, colors and crowds, I enter a Gachapon shop. You can find tons of these shops around Tokyo. With the weirdest gadgets ever. Go in and try to win something. I’m trying to get Luffy or Shanks. It costs 500 yen. About €2.90 – $3.43 – £2.50 After 500 yen… I get Vivi Nefertari. Oh well, let’s make up for it with a crepe. A bit further ahead is a famous creperie. But first, I want to try the famous candied fruit skewers. I got the candied grapes. Inside you’ll find tons of anime-themed figures and gadgets. But they’re not exactly cheap. 6000 yen for this is a lot. This is the creperie, Marion Crepes. You can choose from so many flavors. I got whipped cream, Nutella, and strawberry. There are so many gadget stores. Of course, Pokémon are everywhere. Takeshita Street is famous especially for its wild fashion. You’ll find clothes for every style. And lots of food, especially sweets. A lot of women’s fashion. With many different styles. Wego is one of the most famous stores for women’s fashion here in Takeshita. The famous 10 yen cheese-filled treats. And the colorful shaved ice. Even in the chaos, you can find a peaceful shrine. The Togo Shrine. No tourists come here. It’s just off a side street from Takeshita. You absolutely must walk this street if you’re in Tokyo. Now I’m hungry, time to find food. I found a ramen place. You order through a machine. The restaurant is called Oreyushio Ramen. They serve shio ramen and tonkotsu ramen, two of the four main types. I got the tonkotsu. The broth is made from pork bones, so it’s heavier. Shio ramen is lighter, made with a simple salt-based broth. Super good. I saved the place on my map! I spent 1200 yen. Now time for a walk to digest. Yoyogi Park is the perfect place. It’s Sunday and it’s packed. A lot of locals come here for picnics. Perfect spot to relax. Looks crowded—maybe something’s going on? A surprise festival! Let’s go see what it is. It’s a Vietnam Festival. Packed with people and food stalls everywhere. I had just finished my ramen, and the lines were too long. If I had known earlier, I would’ve eaten here. I’ve never tried Vietnamese food. Guess it’ll be for another time. Here we are in Ura-Harajuku. Temple of streetwear fashion. And here’s the famous Liberty Walk shop. If you’re into cars, it’s the perfect place to grab something. More figure stores, and these are even cooler. Found an Italian coffee bar—coffee break time! Real Italian coffee. Really good, feels like I’m back in Italy. You can find lots of shoe stores here, mostly sneakers. This is a famous fashion mall for women only. It’s called Laforet. Heading toward Harajuku, you’ll find this tree-lined avenue called Omotesando. There are tons of luxury stores here. And also a cool shopping complex called Omotesando Hills. It’s famous for its unique architectural design. On this street you’ll also find one of the most famous toy stores. Perfect if you want to buy gifts. Another mall with unique architecture is this one. On the top floor, there’s an amazing garden. With a great view over Harajuku. Perfect for a break. With some delicious Italian pistachio gelato. From Harajuku you can walk to Shibuya through this road. It’s not known for cats, but for fashion shops and cafés. One of the most famous is this one: The Matcha Tokyo. If you want a great matcha drink, come here. But expect a long line! After 15 minutes, it’s finally my turn. I’m not a big fan of matcha, but this one is really good. This Ralph Lauren store is amazing. These hydrangeas are real! Feels like being in a flower shop. This street is way more chill and relaxing than Takeshita. Last stop, I want to try this place. It’s famous for making artisan cola with natural ingredients. It’s served in a pouch. It has a strange taste with a spicy aftertaste. If you want something unusual, stop by here. We’ve now reached Shibuya, but this awesome district deserves its own video. If you’re curious about the places I visited, check out my map—link in the description!
