⁴ᴷ Hokkaido: Goryokaku Koen Mae Station (北海道: 五稜郭公園前駅) – Japan Walking Tour (June, 2025)

To kick off a journey around almost the entire island of Hokkaido, I took an 18-hour ferry ride and landed in the city of Tomakomai. My first filming location was Hakodate, the southernmost point of Hokkaido.

While the area around Hakodate Station has become quite touristy, the nearby restaurant district still feels more local, with many residents going about their routines. Of course, the area around Goryokaku Tower and the observation deck attracts plenty of tourists during the day. I went up the tower myself, and there was a bit of a wait for the elevator on the way down.

At night, the atmosphere shifts slightly. I saw women standing outside what seemed to be either girls’ bars or snack bars, and men from information booths were also out on the streets—giving the area a typical nightlife vibe.
