Unique Solo Dining Japanese Restaurants in Tokyo (Under $10!)

[Music] Nana Dame Matsuguro. So, I wanted to start off at this spot behind me because Shaboo Shabu is known as a food that you eat with people. But this spot does it a little differently. Let me show you how. Just a few minutes walk from the Asaka station, this Shabu Shabba restaurant, which is typically meant for group dining, is designed specifically for single customers and is quite often filled with Japanese celery men getting their meat on. This spot serves only aged Wagyu A4 and A5 beef, so you can expect top tier meat here. And along with exceptional service, this spot is an easy recommendation for me. Although everyone is circled around the restaurant, each person gets their own individual pot. But if you want something even more private, stick around. But first, let me talk about the food here. I got their best value lunch set for just 980 yen, about $6.80. Rather than using the typical flavored dashi broth, this shop keeps it simple so customers can savor the pure natural flavors of their premium Wagyu meat. Oh, here’s the meat. Let’s go. Let’s go. Look at this. Wow. Just look at this beautiful marbling. What I love about this Wagyu too, they use A4 and A5 Wagyu. It’s actually been dryaged for 2 weeks. It has even more umami built in. I went for the GMA. They also have tonsuk here. What I like to do is take the garlic and throw it in here. Take some chili oil, make it a little bit spicy. You know, I like my spice. If they had my Paulo from Kilky premium kani hot sauce, that would be fire. But, you know, we’re just going to go with the chili oil that they have here. Let me just throw some of this in there. Shampoo. Shampoo. Shaboo. They actually call it shaboo. Shaboo cuz that’s a sound it makes when you put the meat in the boiling water. There you go. All cooked up. Dip it in here with some rice. Oh, it’s so delicious. This meat is so good and tender. And just beautiful nice little spicy kick for the vegetables in there, too. One of the things I love the most here is just look at this vegetable selection. Tokyo is sometimes hard to get vegetables. Like, this place has like a pretty good, hefty set of vegetables. Towards the end of the meal, the staff present me with a ramen bowl seasoned with their tare sauce. I then add the umami rich broth I built up from the shaboo shabu, as well as noodles I cooked to my preferred firmness. Finally, I finished it off with a healthy pouring of rau chili oil because I just love how spicy makes me feel inside. So, one thing that you should know is that I’m getting the limited set. There’s only 20 every day, so you have to come here early. But if you do miss it, then you can get their Wagyu neck or Wagyu going. And the price is still pretty reasonable. Just like looking around, this is pretty cool. You just can come here all by yourself. No one’s going to be caring cuz everyone else is eating by themselves. Well, not everyone. There’s actually people here that probably are eating in group, but this is not the last spot I’m taking you. I have a few more places where you can go all by yourself. Let’s go to the next spot. Number two, Gusto. So, this spot behind me, you feel like you have your own private workspace. Let me show you why. Gusto is one of Japan’s most popular family restaurant chains, and people typically dine here in groups. Well, until now as the restaurant has refitted a section of their dining space with a private single customer booth. This one located in Akasaka Mitske just a few minutes walk from the Shaboo Shabu spot. The booth is even equipped with an electrical outlet so I can charge my phone or even my PC. Oh, and to order, I can use this tablet which I can switch to different languages like English. This is pretty much as private as you can get. You kind of feel like you’re in an airline lounge, I guess, in like one of those places where you can just kind of sit and focus and even like do desk work. But here you can actually eat food. Just got a notification that my food should be coming soon. There’s a little cat.
The food is even delivered by robots. So yeah, no human interaction required. Perfect for those who have social anxiety. Bam. Look at this. Here we go. So, I ordered a hamburger steak with fried eggs, pork, cutlet, fried shrimp, and sausage. It’s usually my go-to when I’m looking to have a hearty meal. Have a little bite. Try this fry. Nice and crispy. One of the things I love about this place is that there’s just so many options and it’s at a reasonable price. So, if you don’t want to break the bank for like every single meal you have, this place is awesome. Another cool thing like you know since the Wi-Fi is free you can come here upload your photos from your trip get back like write emails or do like what you need to do to eat at the same time. I just love having this whole kind of private booth. I just love the concept. Oh yeah, there’s also an all you can drink bar set you can add at a very reasonable price.
How many people like travel to a foreign country by themselves like me? I’ve never personally wanted to do that. Like I usually travel with friends or family or something like that. But granted, I did come to Japan by myself and it was more kind of like a study thing, but like how many of you try to go to a different country or actually have already? Let me know in the comments. All right, I am getting pulled from this place. So, let me take you guys to the next spot. Okay, so now I am in Akihabara to take you guys to this spot. It’s actually just right by this curry shop, just hidden over here in this little hallway. Because you know, one of my greatest joys is to bring you guys to places that you’ve never seen before. Number three, Dashia. Located just a minute walk from Akihabara Station, this hidden spot specializes in hoy koto, a Chinese twice cooked pork dish using a super thick hacho miso to give the dish a Japanese style flavor. When ordering on the multilingual ticketing machine, I’m given the option to choose the amount of rice as well as amount of pork. Once I’ve made my selection, I get my ticket. Then I make my way to my own private oasis. Okay, look at this. Koshitu, meaning private room. You got this whole entire place just to yourself. At least that’s what it feels like it, you know, cuz everyone is just sectioned off in their little room. This one has like the openings right in front, but those ones over there just behind me actually don’t have any opening. So, if you want even more privacy, they have that as well. It has pretty much everything you need in here. They have soy sauce, pepper, rayu, they have chili peppers here. Even have a call button right here so that you can press if you need any more service. Hey, So, I got their standard hoor set with rice. Yeah, I’m feeling kind of heavy right now. So, probably best not to get the super size option, right? This looks so good. This is like the main stay. It’s like a Chinese style dish and it’s actually like a very Japanese homestyle cooking as well. It’s so flavorful. There’s a really thick sauce. Really thick sweetness to it. This sauce is amazing. Wow. This is so hearty. Quite pleased with the amount of veggies. You have cabbage in here, peppers, miso itself is from it prefecture. See where Michael’s from. Fire by your house. There is like miso manufacturer and I’ve seen like the the factories like this old school factory. If you’ve ever had miso katsu, it has that same sort of like flavor and thickness and it is delicious. You also get this soup here. Ooh, there’s so much umami in here. It’s a rich seafood and pork broth that’s been simmered for more than 8 hours. This miso is fire. And the best thing, you get to enjoy it all privately. Can’t see a single person. I can kind of see people here, but all I can see through this window is their feet. You know, when I first came to Japan, Akihaba was like one of my favorite spots to go to. I just love checking out the electronics. They’re trying to get like bargain deals. But, you know, I can see why like something like this is popular because sometimes the just want to be left alone by themselves and sometimes I feel like that too. You know, just giving my own private booth. Let me enjoy my twice cooked pork. I just ate this entire plate. So, I got a little bit of rice left. So, I’m just going to scoop all of this. Scoop. Scoop. Scoop. Scoop. Scoop. Now it’s all dripped in. Last one. All right, off to the next one. And number four, Shibuya Oola Laala. So for those looking for yakuniku or that halal hitter, then look no further than this spot. Let me show you. Located on the south side of Shibuya, this yakuniku skiyaki spot just reopened with a fresh update. And now this spot serves halal friendly coobe beef. Yakiniku is also something I would generally eat with a group of people. But now grilled meat waits for no man. At least in Japan. Seriously, being able to enjoy yakiniku in my own private space whenever I want without having to deal with others is clutch for a meat lover like me. So, I ordered the Wagyu loin and skirt steak yaki niku lunch set, which comes with rice, soup, and kimchi. And all this again under $10. This is amazing. We have rai and the rosu right there. That is looking luscious. All in the privacy of my own little dining section. I just love the fact that you get all the sauces. So you got hiku, lemon, all you can die. Oh, and did I mention that this place is 100% halal certified? And for those of you that are on me in the comment section, there you go. Halal restaurant for you guys. Just look at these luscious pieces. Cook that up on the grill. Is this perfectly cooked? Look at that. That is what I’m talking about. Get a little bit of rice action on there in my own little private Idaho over here. Take a little bite. [Music] The totty sauce is on the sweeter side. It’s already seasoned in itself, so you don’t almost need the sauce unless you want even more flavor. And if you want to get a little lemon hit, then just throw it in the lemon sauce. Really, really all about preference. I’m talking about that. That is what I’m talking about. Perfectly cooked meat dripping all over the place. And just have at it. Dip this one in some lemon. I like to give it thorough little dump. Nothing feels better than dipping the kids off at the pool. Anyway, a fun little thing. Always noticed. I don’t know if you guys noticed it yourself, but yeah, some people pronounce it Wagyu. And I’m wondering where that came from. Let me know in the comments why people pronounce it that way. And if you guys like want even more, there’s like obviously there’s all these different options. They have course menu, they have skiaki here, then they have other options for you. All these places. Isn’t this just pretty amazing that you can finally come to Japan and just be all by yourself and no one will bother you? Maybe not. But I don’t know, maybe you guys do want people to bother you. Or, you know, sometimes you just had a long day. You don’t really want to be bothered and you just want to be able to eat in peace. 1. Thank you for the halal restaurant that was a surprise! I was enjoying the video already even as a Muslim I won't go to restaurant doesn't have the halal certification i enjoy every food video keep it up!

  2. I've been all over the UK and Europe on my own. I either prebook restraunts by emailing them to ask if they allow solo diners, especially if I know it's busy or I switch my main meal of the day to lunch/brunch rather than diner. Most places are much quieter then and are happy for walk-in solo diners.

  3. Great timing! I’m going on my 1st solo trip to Tokyo by the end of the month and coincidentally, I’m actually staying in Akasaka but I’m not sure if I’ll go to a yakiniku or shabu shabu place since it’s like in the middle of summer but I guess only time will tell

  4. Number 1 looks top notch and could still go with a friend and sit next to each other. Number 2 I would really like as I would love those booth for one. Fried food is always a winner too. Number 3 is nice and I think I'd like a booth with a window. I think the pitcher of water is a really nice touch. Number 4 has a great set up and I would love to try it. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I prefer traveling solo. I had a one month trip to Japan recently from April-march that was 90% solo and 10% one week with friends. I preferred my solo portion because I could see Japan at my own pace. I like to get up when I want to get up, not early because someone else did. It's very relaxing to do. It was my favorite trip so far.

  6. wtf do you even mean at 13:00? That is how YOU pronounce it. That is the correct pronunciation? You also put in a sound effect to ensure we could not actually hear the specificity of your pronunciation, why? Paolo, what?

  7. Why not just buy food To-Go? That way, you can watch YouTube or TV while eating to distract you from the fact that you have no friends.😅

  8. please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't halal also a way the animals are killed? my understanding is a form of blood letting where they're hanged from their hind legs, the neck is split and blood is expelled after the blessing.

so – does this mean halal for beef means they're also hanging the cows in Kobe?

I thought Kobe/Wagyu also had it's own culling methods..?

How is Kobe/Wagyu beef halal? does anyone know? ty, and sorry if I'm totally off on what "knowledge" I just expressed ❤

  9. Just in time. I have to run some errands today and I was thinking about where to eat. Definitely hitting the last spot when they open up.

  10. This is very convenient but also a sign of how anti social things are in Tokyo.
*in Australia it's pronounced Wag-Yu. How dare people pronounce it differently 😤

  11. These remind me of diners! Perfect for needing a warm meal, traveling, or just needing single seat. And then you usually became close to the employees if you visited enough similar to the Udon video with the rice seller in the neighborhood. Sometimes you just need your space or break from people. Lol I wonder if parts of Japan being a population dense area being a reason? Great video!

  12. u know maybe the birthrate is low in japan cuz stuff like this isnt helping the issue. restaurants designed specifically for solo dining? robots and machines to avoid talking to ppl. like its probably not helping

  13. In North America it is almost taboo to eat alone … hope that’s changing. It shouldn’t be as social as an act as some people think it is.

  14. Solo traveller here!!
I'm not opposed to travelling with other people but most of the people i run with won't leave their front doorstep.

  15. WHY DON'T YOU F..UCK OFF BACK TO THE FILIPINES..??? Huh. Paolo????
You ain't Japanese! Never will be. Just a Pinoy tosser.

  16. I've traveled to over 10 countries as a solo person. Very comfortable doing it and you never have to comprise on what to do !
