Otaru Hokkaido | Otaru Izesushi | Otaru Music Box Museum | Local Ramen | Episode 2 of 2

Hello everyone! Welcome back to our Japan travels with 2 kids under 2.

On the second day our Otaru trip in Hokkaido, we explored the local town for their cuisine and local crafts.

Izesushi is a local up market sushi restaurant where you can experience an omakase style sushi in various sets and Ala carte. We chose different sets to experience the full range of the menu for lunch time sitting. To get a booking here was difficult, we had to ask our Japanese friends in Australia to call them and make a reservation, there were no online reservations.
It was worth the trouble though, the freshness of the sea urchin and the ocean produce was definitely top notch and so much so it doesn’t break the bank if you had this in Tokyo.

After the lunch we also have the pleasure of exploring the main town of Otaru for their music boxes which comes in all shapes and sizes. Incorporating the local craftsmanship of centuries of glass making.

From all the sightseeing, we had to stop for some local Ramen, miso based Ramen to be precise. It’s definitely a thick broth from the miso rather from the pork and it was as usual, delicious and memorable.
