I Spent $100 On Japanese Street Food

all right today I’m trying to spend $100 on street food in Japan known as one of the most special countries Japan is home to some of the tastiest street food but also some of the most creative street food I’ll be walking around asakusa Tokyo exploring one of the most popular Street Markets with the goal of spending 100 us that’s about 15,000 Japanese Yen I did this challenge in Philippines and I struggled to even spend $20 Japan’s a little bit pricier so let’s see what we can [Music] find the first item I found came out to only5 100 yen thank you so much this thing is piping hot this is the Tokyo Curry Pond oh my goodness oh my God you can see the curry oozing out the bread was soft and Flaky the cheese reminded me of a Hot Pocket this is just a packed little [Music] ball next I made it to the shop that sells ice cream wrapped in gold they have a golden bathroom I can take a golden while eating some golden ice cream I ordered the premium cone which came out to 12200 Yen she grabbed some gold film and carefully placed it on the ice cream she’d be covering it with half gold and half silver this probably the richest ice cream I’ve ever had oh it’s like paper it’s deadly hot right now so this is going to be so refreshing my God it’s like vanilla time 10 the gold on top surprisingly made it milkier and creamier it’s on my lips also comes with a black cone this ice cream is for the rich that Golden ice cream still didn’t get me to $100 I went next door and I got this matcha green tea ice cream wrapped in like a pancake this was about 500 yen oh my teeth oh my God instant brain freeze I’ve never had a soft pancake bread cone honestly better than a waffle [Music] cone this is still in the market so it’s technically street [Music] food I got this Beef Pork and cheese minced cutlet it’s a tiny flaky little ball very crispy on the outside oh my goodness look at all that cheese oh my God that cheese was cheesing you can see the mince beef and pork in the inside right there the cheese was hot there was like endless cheese in there this thing could have stretched for a mile for 500 yen this thing is amazing I need a toil pack of these I had a long way to $100 so I went to another part of the market where I was able to find some more pricier items I got though I was able to find some wag you meat this was a wagu sandwich with wagu beef in the middle and sticky rice Patties on the outside they got some type of sauce on there looks a little like roast beef I thought it’ be a little hotter the meat is kind of cold not really surprised cuz they had the meat pre-cooked in this container and just slapped it on this is kind of my least favorite thing of the day at this next spot two items had caught my attention and they both had came out to be 2,150 Yen little price here we’re getting up there the first item was a purple sweet potato shredded to look like string cheese and the second item was an actual sweet potato honestly looks like Play-Doh looks like a little toy it was basically just U very nice mixture with the ice cream next I got a sweet potato with Creme Brulee this thing is hard a little bit of ASMR looks very um interesting M oh my God what the heck a little cream pie the crolet on top is a very nice touch it’s like a little chip tastes like a roasted marshmallow the next spot that will be running my pockets was this restaurant with a cart outside that was selling fish cakes tofu and noodles they were so nice they let us sit inside with the AC this whole Bowl was only 500 yen this is a fish cake little thick spongy next is tofu this broth is so hot this one was the fishy cake soft like a marshmallow here go the noodles super thin but they’re pretty strong this next item was very interesting Not only would I be tasting the item but I’d be the one making it next are these tempua chips to turn them into chips you press this [Music] button throw some salt on there first the shrimp tempura chip it’s a little bit bigger than my hand oh wow still got the tail right there next are these vegetable chips the vegetables are super overpowering I came across the stand selling these rice stick thingies thank you thank you each was covered with bacon and you could choose what toppings you wanted I decided to go with cheese hot she sat there and torched these right in front of me that rice is so soft it’s like a little rice meat popsicle honestly the same size as the next thing I came across was this man selling these balls made out of baby octopus these what the balls are looking like got the fish flakes on top and the cut up baby watchus is supposedly inside these balls are huge I can barely fit them in my mouth very fishy a little bit of soy sauce on there and that breading is super wet I don’t love them but I don’t hate them I was craving something sweet so I spent 1,50 Yen at this nice lady stand I got the this is sweet Dango Mochi I got the mango with strawberry matcha and red bean it’s a cold Mochi and the fruits on top are also cold it’s about 90Β° out today and this right here is pretty refreshing next to the strawberry lemon soda pop looks like summer colors M last I got the red bean and strawberry honestly looks a little bit like chocolate it was very pasty and the red bean was very subtle I was getting full and I still didn’t spend $100 I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish this challenge I was honestly losing hope until I found this man right here bro had a mountain of meat just whipping up barbecue you couldn’t miss him he had prices ranging from 800 to 1,000 yen [Music] I think I hit the jackpot boys I spent over 7,600 Yen which is about 50 I left them a tip and just gave them 10,000 Yen that’s for you guys yes thank you thank you thank you it looks delicious looks very delicious they were so happy they gave me a free pack of noodles so we hit our goal here’s the special beef tongue this was 1,000 yen very thin but still very chewy got some pork the sauce he dipped everything in was like a spicy sweet and sour sauce you can still see it dripping off the meat I think this one is a scallop m not really sure what I’m chewing down on right now but it is rubbery and pretty hard still lots of flavor inside of it now this is the scallop a lot easier to eat little stringy on the inside here’s the special beef short rib nice Teriyaki flavor this one is my favorite this one is Sauced up last is the octopus look at the tentacles on [Music] this got some long hard tentacles this thing is rubbery little tentacles are in with flavor like some Little Boba today was a struggle fighting the weather and the fact that Japanese food is so filling I managed to hit the $100 mark it is possible here in Japan there’s a lot of food options from sweets to meat like this Mochi ball with a strawberry in the middle Japanese food got to be one of my favorite foods I like it I approve and yes I would try it again m

I walked around one of the most popular markets in Japan, with the goal of spending $100. To reach this number, I’d have to try a variety of different Japanese foods.

  1. The ball with octopus is called takoyaki. You can find it in most if not all Japanese restaurants outside of Japan.
