Naomi Osaka vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Preview
Naomi Osaka will be high on confidence after reaching the third round of the Wimbledon championship for the first time since 2018. The Japanese ace is yet to cross the third-round. If she manages to win on Friday, it will be her first run (4th Round) at Wimbledon. Osaka dispatched Siniakova in straight sets after a nervy victory over Gibson in first round.
The former No. 1 has posted a 24-19 record on grass court in her career. She has a terrible numbers on this surface and Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tournament where she has been a mediocre player. Osaka won 20 matches this season and won a title in Saint-Malo. She also reached the final in Auckland. She had victories against Caroline Garcia and 20th seed Karolína Muchova in Australian Open this season. She moved to top-50 but inconsistent performance pushed her to No. 56.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova secured two coming-from-behind victories against Tomljanovic and Krueger. The Russian ace had a quarterfinal run in the 2016 Wimbledon and the grass-court suits her. It will be her fourth 3rd round appearance in the Wimbledon. She reached the Eastbourne semifinals last week, her first semifinals since January.

Naomi Osaka’s real grass-court test starts in third round but she has a variety of shots to counter the Russian ace. Osaka will try to counter the Russian ace with return aggression, and forehand pace. However, Pavlyuchenkova brings value on the grass court and she can be a big threat for Osaka in third round. Pavlyuchenkova would push for long rallies and disturb Osaka’s momentum.
Prediction: Pavlyuchenkova to win in three sets.
