Not the Ginza You Know… But One Locals Love

today we are exploring three local shopping street in Tokyo with Ginsa India name ginsa is not that Ginsa it’s local shopping street first we’re here at Juju Ginsa this Shotgai is 400 m long and packed with more than 200 shops it’s famous for bold flavors at local prices as soon as you enter the Shoengai you will notice lots of street food i already see like a boba shop i see a crepe shop right across the place there’s a produce fruit stand bread shop there’s like a karaoke place camera shop there’s like everything you could ever want you can really see how the people live here dayto-day
yes and today is weekday but filled with people
yeah yeah not crowded though not crowded
one of the fun point of shopping street is street food we found chicken shop named Toidai very popular chicken meat shop and here the famous one is chicken board this one it’s the price is only 10 for one and it’s deep fried [Music] brown chicken meat deep fried outside it’s sakut crispy little bit sweet that’s interesting point oh you also got some yakito satoshi yes
so you got the chicken thigh and you got negiima which is chicken thigh with a niggi m that’s so good how much was this
it’s 150 yen
150 yen super reasonable i love the char grilled flavor i love the surface look at that so perfectly charred i love the the ni in between i’m going to try the chicken ball it’s really simple but I really like it for some reason I feel like they’ve mixed a little bit of tofu inside the chicken mixture delicious this is a chicken thigh they say this is ju specialty really specialy
juju speciality they say m sweet and tender lots of chicken meat m and the sauce is really nice too
yeah sauce is good the sweetness and the chi taste also very good one of the good points of this Jujo Ginsa shopping street is this arcade even it is rainy day you can enjoy shopping here we immediately found something else to eat so much street food here
yes very very near from the past shop
and it’s quite heavy we had to stop by this shop called Mia they’ve been doing business since 1994 they serve a variety of uh takeaway food and this thing caught my attention this is the curry wiener sausage look at this it’s actually quite heavy and it looks like it almost looks like corn dog almost and but you can see the the sausage and it’s deep fried with batter and it smells like curry because this is after all the curry wiener sausage this is super juicy for some I was expecting this to taste like fish sausage because of the price it’s too cheap but it’s juicy it’s porky definitely curry flavored but the sausage is like super juicy the color is paler than your typical pork sausage so it must be like a mixture of chicken or something but it is so juicy it is really flavorful oh I definitely recommend this
this is the boom kat we thought this is boom mi katu and we asked to the shop owner and he said no this is not the minci katu m look at this what
yes that’s a slab of beef
slap of beef what
incredible
i’ve never seen anything like it
wow and this is only 160 y can’t believe it in the US dollar it’s only $1 $1 that’s right
it’s only $1 very crispy tender and flavorful a little bit saltiness it’s combined with this beef meat nicely
this is what I love about Japanese shorten guys you can always find good food and this particular shorten guy lots of takeaway food lots lots of daddy shop i’m so jealous can we come back for the street food here we should do like a street food tour here there’s too much food here guys oh if you want to see that let us know in the comments oh look at this street there’s another street this is Rainbow Holic Cafe this is a place that’s been on my radar they’re closed today so we definitely have to come back Satoshi we definitely have to come back we have to so the next place is Togoshi Ginsa toshi Ginsa is located Togoshi Ginsza station it’s along the Tokyo Iikami line from Gotanda
yeah we have not been to this Shoengai in about 7 years
I think so right and this is actually the longest Shengai shopping street in Tokyo 1.3 kilometers long
very long very long
it’s insane
and 400 shops
about 400 shops yeah it’s incredible so obviously you’re going to find lots and lots of uh street food here as well it’s a lot of fun walking through the street but tip here make sure to wear good walking shoes because you’re going to be walking a lot it’s 1.3 km long
you guys know we love walk around you see many many shops here we’re here at a store called Unagi Emo Store and they opened in 2013 so this wasn’t here the last time we were here actually there’s there are many stores that are new to us and this totally caught my attention this is the unagi mlan soft matcha flavor that’s matcha powder on the top all that squiggly stuff is the Mlan paste mumbla is usually chestnut but this is made with sweet potatoes and then there’s soft serve on the bottom so I’m going to just go for the whole thing a little bit of the mumblan a little bit of the soft serve m is this my favorite soft serve maybe not the soft serve we had in Shibuya was better but that’s just my opinion but the flavor of the mumblan is delicious i love the sweet potatoes yeah the matcha flavor i feel like um it’s mostly on the top here so I’m going to take a bite of this m that is nice you get the bitterness of matcha but the flavor of the sweet potato is pretty strong so I think that is the main flavor and the soft surf is very very creamy and it’s quite rich delicious so mine is imo mumban shio dango means sweet potato mbran dango salt flavor this is amazing on top of dango there this beautiful mbran made with sweet potato and on top it’s salt by the way this shop is unagi shop what is unagi they use unagi scraps for fertilizer and they give to sweet potato from Hamanako in Shizoka hamanako is a very famous lake for unagi [Music] when I bite very comfortable sweet aroma came to my nose if you like sweet potato this is very good and lightly seasoned with salt this is very good tango you know we already told you that this show is 1.3 km long it really is huge and it feels like an outdoor shopping mall
true you know and there’s a variety of shops i noticed there’s a lot of uh secondhand stores which I love you know like secondhand furniture and stuff like that a lot of restaurants and much more sweets shops than I remember from like 7 years ago so I love that
yes it’s truly like a shopping mall
yeah exactly
and we discovered the mascot of this street
yes ginchang
gingchang it’s from uh Togoshi Ginsa yeah yeah there is the mascot of luck love and something else but anyway yeah it kind of adds to the atmosphere ginsa is famous for koro there’s about 20 different korok shops in this neighborhood unfortunately we’re here on a day where all the koi shops are closed amazing today’s Wednesday by the way so we suggest come on any day except Wednesday and so instead we decided to get something at Koka Behun Tayyaki and this is a very interesting tayyaki it looks different it is gluten-free so that’s different and it looks really crispy it feels crispy as well and look at it you see the shuriken the ninja shuriken as well as the katana knife let’s see how crispy it is what it feels super crispy
ooh
wow yeah and I got the one with the uncle the sweet naziki bean paste you can get you know gluten-free custard chocolate okay kind of excited to try this oh my god what is this made of it’s so crispy it’s made with rice mala that is delicious oh my god i love the crispiness of it and inside is filled with just the perfect amount of sweetness azuki bean paste i cannot get enough of this it’s really good it’s so different from your typical tayyaki once again Satoshi we have to come back to try the ko
yes
i didn’t know there were like 20 different koi shops in this area so guys if that’s something you want to see please let us know in the comments down below because we love ko and I’m sure you guys do too all right so we are going how
Wow
is it good
so crispy
right right it’s incredible but anyway so we’re going to check out one more Ginsa so let’s go
let’s go and let’s go look for more food all right guys this is Sunamachi Ginsa it’s our absolute favorite showgen guy in the entire city snomachi Ginsza was founded in 1932 stretches 670 m with over 180 shops uh this we like this place for its community feel and excellent excellent street food why we love this shopping street it’s it’s very local so many so the dairy shops that’s the d paradise here we actually did a video on street food here in the past did we do it once or twice
i think twice
twice right because there’s so much first place we’re going to visit is a place selling yaki tori this is at the very end of the street and we think this is one of the best yaki tori um in Tokyo you know as far as like street food is concerned oh it’s so good but you just have to be careful cuz sometimes they’re closed they close on Monday
on Mondays okay so just remember that so we came to our favorite yaktory shop here is takisawa show they g in front of the shop and variety of ingredients are displayed and we ordered four when mine is to negi tori means chicken and negi is green onion toi negi most of shop has negima it’s a green onion in between chicken meat but this one is mostly chicken and at the bottom one piece of green onion you can choose a flavor of salt or tare and we chose salt dimos m very tender chicken meat the top part I think it is rest so it is not so juicy but flavorful and this is called the tonto the pork meat this one is a fatty part of pork meat m if you like the fatty part of pork meat this is good this is baabara so this is pork belly i think it’s similar to the one Satoshi just had but this one’s a little bigger i don’t really know what the difference is m you know what i think the there is a slight difference this one the baabana is meteor so it has like a lot more of the pork meat the actual pork meat whereas tontoro is mostly fat I think is that correct it was just mostly fat that’s really good and I really like it with just the salt m and this is the tukun which is chicken meatballs check out that grill mark look how delicious that looks oh the tukun here is so good oh my god and you really don’t need anything else except for the salt it is like perfectly seasoned i love the charm mark on the surface oh that’s delicious this always happens whenever we come to Sama we can never walk for more than a minute until I have to buy something and there’s a temper shop um there one of our favorite temper shops is at the other end but this is a new one and I thought we should try it because I mean look at this this plate or this container of uh vegetable tempura i don’t know how many types of vegetables are in here it’s only 500 yen i can’t believe it
yeah I know and they had this which is benishawaga pickled ginger which is very rare here in Tokyo carrots string bean two eggplant you got turnip which is very unusual lancon lotus root bell pepper not one but two pumpkin tempura go bowl or bo
wow
it’s not finished yet we still have more yeah we have not one but two potato tempura
wow look at this look at all of that i can’t believe it
this is 500 yen
oh wow you know um I I already asked the lady “What time do you close?” She says 6:00 p.m and uh so we still have time if this is good Satoshi I’m gonna pick pick us up another one of this to take back home for dinner because this is we don’t have anything like this in our neighborhood let’s try the eggplant first look at how crispy it looks m oh my god oh it’s like freshly deep fried tempura actually if you want to eat it here at the park right next to the store literally right next door she will deep fry this for you again so like crispy and fresh so good m I’m going to have a bite of the benign shoga temper cuz I love this m I love that sourness m it’s so good m so good so I’m going to be eating lotus root
go for it
wow the size is pretty big
i know oh m crispy oh and this rotas has a sweetness this one is also big
yeah sweet potato
that’s only one you got another one here
i thought smaller one
i know 500 yen i can’t believe it mu [Music] i know and you know what I like about this sweet potato tempura i just noticed sometimes they cut it too thick
which I don’t like so this is like pretty thin my family loves sweet potato tempura so you know kind of critical of that and we visited Sointen they sell lots of beautiful pickled vegetables
a lot you know and not only pickled vegetables but they also if you go inside they sell readymade food that you can take back home not deep fried food but like stir- fried dishes uh you know simmered dishes so many and of course we had to stop by a tea shop that I personally love and I picked up a package of Kagoshima tea to take back home with me cuz I love Kagoshima tea now
the tea shop name is Morya
yes and of course they have tea that you can take away as well we got Shincha because it is season which is a new tea so this is a new batch tea from Kagoshima and you got the
Ga
with matcha i see with matcha oh we also got pickles right these are cucumbers
cucumbers it’s so nice
beautiful tea taste
it’s so nice i I find that Kagoshima tea has a freshness that other teas might not have as much of um actually I think I’m drinking the your tea
i’m thinking wait wait wait a minute it tastes different yeah this is the one I love sencha the pure green tea and you like get my
Of course i like the pure tea green tea and the the shop lady amazed the new tea the colors beautiful so green
yeah so green yeah yeah which is not normal you know it’s because it’s a new tea
yeah so we got these cucumbers and there were like a five of them for 400 yen
and these are all made in house everything that they make they make themselves wow nicely pickled though
and I’m happy to know that it’s not very salty
sometimes it can be really salty this is like perfect for like a snack
and it has very nice crunchiness and lots of umami dashi kind of thing mhm not only soy sauce it has umami
did you know the pickled cucumber and tea is a very good friend
mhm i sure do the other thing I want to mention about these Ginsa streets is that the food that you find here is so much cheaper than in the center of town
like we live in the Nakano area and although like like we don’t we’re not really like in the center like it’s not like this price and the prices here are amazing to watch really and the other thing I want to point out is that the people are so friendly especially Snamachi Ginsa this one that’s why we keep coming back and out of all the three Ginsas that we visited today this one is the most inaccessible for us true
it’s difficult for us to get here we take the train and then we have to take a bus and then we have to walk a little bit so it takes over an hour to get here yet this is our fourth time
yep
yeah and there’s definitely going to be a fifth
very was to visit worth to visit yes so how did you think about these shopping street Ginsa shopping street in Tokyo you can feel the local atmosphere daily life of Tokyo people and you can enjoy lots of lots of street foods right and you know there are more than just these three shorten guys but uh we chose three of some of our favorite uh shorten guys here in Tokyo definitely recommend you visiting some of these places and they need your support they do need your business because they are disappearing little by little so that’s a sad thing so please come and support these businesses also make sure to check out thank you for watching subscribe see you in the next one bye-bye have a great day guys

  5. I visited Rainbowholic last summer… It's the most adorable store and the cafe / menu items are delicious… Definitely have a Melon Soda… Kaila, who runs the store, is absolutely adorable too.
You definitely have to go back guys.

  8. Thank you for showing us some lesser known spots! All the food looked so good and yes, please go back to show us more! 🙏🙏

  9. I visited Yanaka Ginza a few days ago and sadly it seems to be dying off as not many people were there and many shops have closed up.

  10. I been to so many GINZA S I get them mixed up!!! 😁
Old ma and pa places and reasonably priced too!!!! 👍🏻
These are the vids I love!!!!! 👌🏻

  11. The food all looks amazing! I am especially intrigued by the soft serve with the potato on top. I bet it was a fun texture experience.

And all that vegetable tempura for only 500 yen??? What a great deal! I am impressed with the variety of veggies, too. Nice selection. I'd be in so much danger of becoming fat with that close at hand! Be terribly difficult to not grab it every day for such a good price. Their other food is worth checking out, I'm sure!

Thank you for sharing your adventure!

  12. Jujo ginza, sunamachi ginza and Togoshi Ginza are still on my list. Jujo Ginza is not fat from where I usually stay but there is not a very direct public transportation to it so I never went yet.
Yanaka Ginza is my "home town." I lived about a minute from Yanaka gInza as a student and always went shopping there. It has changed a lot in the last 12 year though ;/ Sometimes I miss the Yanaka Ginza from my student days.

Any shotengai is usually worth looking around. You can find so many hidden gems, local shops and usually cheap so great for shopping for dinner.

  13. All of your ideas for follow-up visits are great! Please go back. Oh, that yakitori looks so good. My favorite is heart, but I've forgotten the Japanese. Love your videos.
