[Pearl Hermitage, Daitokuji Temple

Until December 8, 2024 (Friday), [Daitokuji] Pagoda [Shinjuan] is open to the public for the first time in three years.
[Shinjuan was built in 1491 by Owa Sorin, a wealthy merchant in Sakai, with Zen master Ikkyu Soujun, famous for his pompous jokes, as its founder.
This is the first time that the 17th century work “The Tale of Genji” is on view to the public. The Hojo sliding door paintings, painted by six artists including Kenichi Kitami, a manga artist famous for “Tsuribaka nisshi” and Isamu Kamikokuryo, art director of the game “Final Fantasy,” were newly painted in 2018 for the first time in approximately 400 years and are a highlight of the exhibition. Don’t miss this opportunity to see this valuable cultural asset.
