Japanese STREET FOOD TOUR! Exploring Tsukiji and Toyosu Market in Tokyo (wagyu beef, mochi, & more!)

markets are a big part of daily life and food culture in Japan and Tokyo Japan’s capital is home to two of the most famous Sukiji and Toyosu i have been dreaming of coming here for years both are full of street food and local vendors come with me as we explore both of them good morning everybody it is day three in Japan and we are at the Sukiji Nepon Fishport Market so I know that the market also moved to Tyosu Market as well so we’re also going there later this is the saddest day of my life
god please no no no no
allegedly a tourist trap but that’s okay we are tourists at the end of the day we’re going to eat some fish some snackies and yeah okay we have our first meal of today it is seafood and it’s from this place here we saw them cutting it right in front of us whoa he’s cutting it up and salting so we know it’s super fresh this was 1,500 yen how much is that in American [Music] but we’re going to try each piece there’s So there’s tuna this one’s oto is what she said so like the fatty one and then there’s salmon and then there’s what is this called again i forgot the name of the eggs
how you like your eggs [Music] okay so we’re going to try the salmon first i’ll get some rice [Music] that is so fresh it’s a little salmon row not super fishy at all the rice is seasoned very well m tastes like it came just from the sea let’s try one of these it’s like when I went to that tuna kind of thing in Mitsua it’s like as good it’s like super not too fishy very melty very fatty um and very good we’re going to try a leaner piece honestly this is a lot of fish but try this one i don’t like that one as much i think they seasoned it definitely but that one didn’t didn’t taste as fresh as the other ones but the rest of them were good but that one is not my favorite best one was salmon i really like the salmon it was like really How do you describe salmon it was good i don’t know dried squid that’s sweeter than I thought it would be i thought it’d be salty whale dude there’s whale meat i was surprised to see whale meat just like out and about here because the sale of whale meat is illegal in the US due to the Marine Mammal Protection Act and I think the Endangered Species Act so I’ve just like never really been around whale meat in general um I know that Alaskan natives are permitted to hunt certain whales and stuff too but since I am just like on the East Coast there’s there’s no whale here but in Japan whale is more of like a delicacy not something that’s central part of their diet um and in 2019 Japan resumed commercial whaling after withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission which I didn’t even know there’s an International Whailing Commission there’s only some species that they can have that they can like sell and stuff for consumption so I thought that was pretty cool but I was a little baby and I did not end up trying it but I just wanted to show you guys that it was here look at how cool that is and that there’s so many types of seafood and like the biggest shrimp I’ve ever seen oysters crabs just like so much i was in seafood heaven when I was here guys this smells unreal wow look at all this eel i think we’re going to get one of the one sticks [Music] they’re grilling it so we got this piece of unagi it’s like this big but size does not always matter as we know um it’s 400 yen [Music] and they got it from the stall so they just had it more prepared and then they kind of heated it up on the grill but we can see like all the char grill marks on it you see the back has a sweet soy glaze on it unagi is very fatty so let’s hope some of that fat has caramelized during the grilling process but we’re going to try it how soft that was it just slide slid off right off the stick [Music] super soft soy sauce not too much not too sweet pretty good honestly it’s pretty comparable to the one that we spent $150 for the other day but I think this one’s better cuz there’s no bones in it the other one had bones this is very good i like it we’re going to eat some grilled seafood i wish there was smellvision so you guys could smell how amazing this was there was so many stalls that had these grills where you could pick out the different seafoods that you’d like to have made like freshly prepared in front of you and this was probably one of the highlights of my trip this is a must try when you go to Sukijichi
can we get one of these please and can we also get scallop yeah you can ask to sit inside and they have like a huge seating area over here where you can like sit and eat your seafood instead of standing outside especially cuz it’s cold out but we got a scallop like thingy that they’re going to grill it and then a king crab and I love king crab so I’m very excited look at this scallop it just came out it’s piping hot i think you can see the steam and look at there’s like juices coming all out of it they grilled it in the shell so that’s why there’s like a char grilled on the side and there’s like a bunch of scallops in here we really got like a whole generational family this is five generations of scallop so we have the 10 generations of scallops in here um they grilled it in the shell and it’s steaming hot can you see the steam oh smells really good let’s try it m very soft there’s like a little like sweet sauce soy sauce maybe on it i’m going to try the soup that is like the best seafood broth ever the scallops are very are not oceany at all um it tastes it’s not the best scallop I’ve ever had but I’ve never had it like this before so this is the best way I’ve had it like this before I guess thank you thank you we also just got the king crab king crab king crab maliking crab with lucking flavors
two hello red go ahead get bed it’s dead
this is my hand and that is the crab it is so long like maybe even like chopsticks for reference like it is steaming it just came off the grill and it looks so good they also brought us like things to cut it with so we’re going to try this out they gave us these cute little crab like it says a crab on it um I’ve never used this i really We’re gonna see how this goes it is so juicy i’m struggling so hard okay here we have a piece of the crab look at how steamy that is i’m going to try it m it’s sweet it’s delectable um they there’s no like sauce on it it’s just like straight up grilled crab i’ve had this before in like a seafood boil and that’s always like covered in a bunch of sauce but this way with the grilled you really get like that char flavor from it um and this is really good i think out of the two that we got I like the crab more um because I just love crab it’s It’s like one of the best seafoods around we’re gonna try this part of the crab as well this is like so big let’s try this that part is like much softer than the leg part i’m not sure which part of the crab this is maybe it’s like one of the joints so then like in there there’s like a lot more fat perhaps i was thinking it’s like connected like this yeah but really good i really like these they have an even bigger version of the crab and we got the small one the 3L so this one is 5,000 yen [Music] the scallops were 1,200 [Music] a little pricey but I think they’re pretty good we’re going to get strawberry dauku [ __ ] almost dropped it we got these from this place i almost dropped it and killed everything so we got strawberry dauku one we got with green tea and one we got with red bean which is a classic so essentially it’s a mochi with a type of filling and then a strawberry but we’re going to try the red bean original one [Music] it’s super pillowy and it’s kind of hard to eat so we’re going to just do our best that is so much better than the mochi we had yesterday for our sweet treat the juicy strawberry adds like another hint of sweetness and tartness and the mochi here today is so soft it is so good and the red bean paste is a little sweeter and it’s really amazingly delicious wow so this one has green tea paste or something green tea and strawberry you want to try this one it’s like Indian this looks like a massacre it’s
like liquidy the green tea is like a little more bitter than the red bean so it adds like a nice contrast with a really sweet and juicy strawberry but I think I like the classic the red bean one is my favorite out of the two of them i’m so happy we got this these are amazing that is so big whoa there’s beef and there’s these giant crab legs i think so i think he’s measuring it look at that that’s crazy japan is known for the best beef in the world and a lot of it comes from Coobe Japan and we did end up going there during this trip but I did see these cubes and I had to go try it also the chef let like some of the tourists try like cooking it and he did not ask me and I was really sad about it but here’s this woman cooking it look this looks so good it comes with salt wasabi and I don’t know if that is mustard maybe [Music] so we have this Wagu piece we’re going to try it just straight up [Music] it’s so good intense beef flavor um it’s really soft like it’s like the softest piece of steak I’ve ever had in my life m it just like explodes in your mouth it’s amazing really good i could die now and it’s kind of peppery too
fantastic i fell for the free sample propaganda and I ended up getting the best dashi I’ve ever had in my life oh my god that’s the best dashi I’ve ever had it’s so like aromatic and flavorful wow this is really good guys so here’s the tea the Sukiji inner market eventually moved to the sleek more modern Toyosu market in 2018 but the outer Sukiji market is still full of street food and everything and that’s what we just went to so now we’re on our way to Toyosu Market which is just about 20 minutes from Sukiji so this is a great day trip but I did not expect this to happen when we got there this is the saddest day of my life i’m so sad toyosu Market is closed for National Foundation Day and it’s a Tuesday and tomorrow it’s Wednesday and we’re leaving Tokyo to go to Osaka and it’s closed on Wednesday so I don’t even know if I can go but there’s like this market over here right next to it so we’re just going to walk around and see and then also see if maybe some place in Toyosu is open or not but we’ll we don’t know okay let’s have a look so this outdoor market is actually part of Toyosu market which made me very happy because technically that means I did end up going wow they recreated the market from the Edeto period so 16003 to 1867 there’s an indoor and outdoor portion and 70 different vendors and all kinds of food seafood desserts delicacies i was very overwhelmed but excited to try things out we’re waiting in line for tamagoyaki it wasn’t that bad so we decided to wait apparently everybody is trying to get this so we just had to follow the hype and wait in line thank you we got it guys we didn’t even wait in line that long [Music] okay so we got a tamagoyaki it is steaming hot it looks really yellow like it’s a very orange deep orange color let’s try it m it’s really sweet you know what it tast it tastes like an egg tart like very almost custardy very fluffy sweet yet savory a little bit but this is very good it’s not like when you go to the sushi places and they have like tomago yaki on like the rice this is like so much better i don’t know if it’s because of the egg quality here but this is like really worth the wait but I would not wait like an hour in here like in Sukijichi like we waited like what 5 minutes yeah totally worth it wow there’s still a lot of stuff to explore over here wait that looks really good okay we’re going to get a fish we’re going to get that fish wow that looks amazing it’s going to have so much flavor fish time [Music] got the fish [Music] so we have the kishu sweet fish and it’s grilled with salt i think you can kind of see the salt on the outside i’ve never had this fish before nor have I had a fish on a stick quite like this hey how you doing i’m pretty excited i thought it looked super cool to try so let’s try it out cheers it’s salty and there’s bones the flavor of the fish is very like like earthy i don’t know how to explain what kind of like almost like a cousin of anchovi perhaps it’s so juicy but there are bones so be careful if you ever try this me however fish expert i choke on the bones i’m kidding the salt is not too salty it has a perfect like crispy on the outside juicy on the inside i guess that’s kind of what happens when you encase anything in salt and then you put it over a fire they were they had it like on the sticks like this that was so cool but you can really taste like the char from the from the what is it coal was it coals from whatever they grilled it on whatever vessel you could tell that it was a grilled item of fish you got to eat just the tip the head if it won’t escape me huh
i don’t like that it’s like the liver flavor but I don’t think the liver is in the head so that’s everything I had at Sukiji and Toyosu Market i have so much more Japan content coming out very very soon so please like comment and subscribe if you like today’s video and stay tuned for the rest of it but that was it love you guys

Welcome to my first video in my Japan Series! 🐟

I traveled here in February 2025 and am finally getting the videos out now.

In today’s video, I explored both Tsukiji and Toyosu (kind of) Markets. These two markets are world renowned and have some of the best street food ever. It was honestly affordable for even a touristy area and had many options from seafood, to wagyu, to mochi — they had it all!

I have so much more to show you so please stay tuned for more Japan recommendations.

Thank you for watching and see y’all soon 🙂
