TOKYO — France’s Accor is the latest international chain to tap into surging demand for luxury accommodation in Japan after it opened its first hotel in the country under the Fairmont brand on Tuesday.

Fairmont Tokyo, which is located on the shores of Tokyo Bay, is one of at least 7 luxury hotels scheduled to open this year and next in Japan, as hospitality providers aim to take advantage of booming demand, driven by record numbers of foreign visitors.
