Exploring Togoshi Ginza: Tokyo’s Longest Hidden Shopping Street!
so hello and welcome back to the vlog today we’ll be going to a place called Togoshi Ginsza not many people know this place but it is known to have the longest shopping street also known as Shoengai in Kanto region so I was quite shocked that not many people know this place i found it on Google Maps and did some research and yes it is 1.3 km long so without further ado let’s go [Music] we got here using the Tokyo Ikigami line getting off at Togoshi Ginsa station but the other lines like the Asakusa line or the Ibara Nakonobu line it’s all really accessible it’s one station away from Gota [Music] welcome to Togoshi Ginsa let’s go so a little background about to Ginsza and why it has the name Ginsa in it after the great Kanto earthquake in 1923 the bricks from Ginsa’s destroyed buildings were hauled all the way by the locals here and used to fix muddy and floodprone streets in the area and that’s how it got his name Toshi Ginsa [Music] so our first stop as usual was coffee it’s called Coffee Iwatski i also actually found this place on Google Maps and there’s nothing about it online except on Google Maps [Music] [Music] the menu is simple hot or cold with different beans to choose from and it is 300 yen per cup cheap it’s actually run by this elderly man he used to be a photographer and he showed me some of his pictures and he told me he’s been brewing for 32 years [Music] so we just got our coffee and it’s only 300 yen you see it’s only 300 yen it’s just a very small shop and they only have like one so ice is the only one pale so it’s 300 yen and yeah that is the menu over there and so if you want to come and give a visit do come but I think you it’s better if you can speak Japanese so if you’re looking for a cafe to chill and stuff this is not the place this is just a stop to get coffee and it feels more like stepping into someone’s daily routine quite nice and interesting guys very good [Music] [Music] after some great coffee we went to get some food this place Karag K is kind of famous locally they actually won the Grand Gold Award in the Karag Grand Prix for East Japan soy sauce category yep there’s a Grand Prix for fried chicken in Japan hey [Music] baby [Music] so we just bought this eating at Karaj K let me show you the karag [Music] try it oh very good would I recommend yeah maybe for a snack well compared to other kajes it’s not that salty i mean it came out in Kiwi so I’m guessing it’s quite good right after we came across this sumai shop from what I read they make everything daily using domestic pork kyoto leaks and aaji onions they were also featured in magazines and won a mail order award for the Brutus it was not bad coming from a place where sumis are fantastic malaysia yeah it holds up we only got two as we wanted to eat more food later on [Music] few my kabi aruki 260 let’s try it you have karashi here m not bad it’s not that flavorful but if you add the karachi it’s like choy but Malaysian sho better [Music] so guys we’re walking through the show guys it’s like 1.3 km long it’s the longest one in Kanto if I’m not mistaken and I cannot see the end people in a lot of shops here they have Chinese kaisen sushi pasta everything so it’s quite nice
further down the street we found this popular shop called Onigiri Toshia they have 40 types of rice balls all made to order you might want to take your number cuz the line is long you’ll have to order first and then wait for your order [Music] so we just ordered the oniiri we ordered two onigiris and apparently it’s quite famous so it’s going to be like 30 minutes to prepare so we’re just going to walk around before we take the onigiri [Music] so we’ve bought the oniri wow me too [Music] wow [Music] look at the meno bro [Music] a bit salty though [Music] m it’s one is like 400 yen so it’s a bit expensive but looking at all the amount they packed it inside well you know prices are rising and all but for the taste it’s quite nice so also this next one serves shaong pa or sho in Japanese one thing about Chong Po is that it has really hot soup inside so you got to be careful when you take a bite [Music] oh my gosh sorry all the juice came out already so [Music] [Applause] [Music] After stuffing ourself with food a 5minut walk from the shopping street is a shrine called tooshi hachibang shrine [Music] heat heat [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it is a great shrine and while we were just relaxing and enjoying and taking some footage the lady who maintains the shrine approached us [Music] and to our surprise she gave us a full tour of the shrine have you been to a shrine before cuz I have never done that before it’s quite a rare opportunity to be entering the shrine and be given a personal tour so we are getting a personal tour to see the hen so let’s just see so in this private tour Nor Kosang gave us a full explanation of the temple of the statues its history and each and every single thing that came from the past till now there was so much explanation so I’m not going to put it all in the video but I’ll be posting another video dedicated the whole tour of this shrine so watch out for that [Music] [Music] togoshi Achimang Shrine was such an experience one that I’ll remember for a very long time so next [Music] popular for their men and after a long time in the shrine we were hungry this was the perfect snack [Music] oh mate [Music] cro oh mine is like pepper [Music] our [Music] final stop for today was this cafe called Pedra Brana they’re actually known for their thick handmade pancakes which are super popular and even get shipped nationwide but unfortunately we didn’t have time to try them we were rushing to catch our next train but we did manage to grab some gelato and a quick coffee and it was quite a nice breeder before wrapping up the day is this black sugar it’s not it’s kuro i was like then she was like blur banana it’s like bit overpowering but the banana is quite strong [Music] what’s it called again go down
so Toboshi Ginsa may not be fancy or glamorous or trendy but it has that local charm it’s sad to see that show guys are slowly fading away with modernization and things not keeping up so if you’re around the area please do visit this place thank you for tagging along i hope you enjoyed i hope this gives you another place to visit when you come to Tokyo and for more Japan content do like and subscribe as it really helps the channel stay safe take care and I’ll see you in the next one johnny
