TOKYO — Japanese electronics group Sharp decided to sell a portion of the land and facilities used for a mothballed LCD television panel factory in Sakai, Osaka prefecture, to SoftBank Corp. in a deal estimated at 100 billion yen ($636 million), Nikkei learned on Friday.
SoftBank plans to build a data center to handle artificial intelligence chores there. The total investment, including procurement of graphic processing units (GPUs), could reach several hundred billion yen.
