A man who was stabbed in a high-rise commercial facility in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district has been pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital. Police have arrested a 50-year-old suspect.
Tokyo police say a law firm with an office on the 31st floor of the Sunshine City complex reported shortly before noon on Tuesday that one of its employees had been stabbed.
The employee in his 30s was stabbed several times in the neck and elsewhere by a man with a knife.
After the incident, a man aged 50 and carrying a knife turned himself in at a police box near the site. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The suspect was also an employee of the law firm.
He reportedly told police he had a grudge against the victim for a long time because he made him feel unpleasant at work. The suspect added that he stabbed the victim because his patience reached a limit and he wanted to hurt the victim.
The two were working in different departments. Both went to work on Tuesday.
Police plan to change the suspect’s charge to murder and investigate the case.
