Vol.150 [SUB/4K]

Good morning! This is E-Ma. This is the first Shinkansen trip on this channel (*’▽’). We depart from Tokyo Station to Sendai Station in Miyagi Prefecture on the Tohoku Shinkansen “Yamabiko”. This is the first day of our 3-night, 4-day trip to Miyagi. Let’s get started! Breakfast is a sandwich I bought at the platform at Tokyo Station. Sometimes it’s cloudy. Sometimes it’s sunny. The sky changes all the time. An announcement was made that we’ll arrive in Sendai soon. The ride went by in a flash, about 2 hours. We arrived in Sendai (*’▽’). I rented a car from a car share near Sendai Station. Now we’re heading to “Matsushima”. It takes about 50 minutes on the back roads from Sendai Station. We entered Matsushima Town. When you come to a place with a lot of greenery, you feel like you’re on a trip (≧▽≦). You can see the sea and the islands floating in the sea (*’▽’). There are more than 260 islands scattered in Matsushima Bay. Matsushima is one of the “Three Views of Japan” along with Amanohashidate and Miyajima. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of scenery I’ll be able to see (´ー`). First, let’s look at “Oshima”, which is close to the parking lot where we parked. As soon as I entered the entrance, I felt an indescribable Ghibli feeling (*’▽’). This narrow road seems to be the road to another world. Beyond that red bridge… is “Togetsukyo Bridge”. Matsushima was once a sacred place called “Oshu no Koya”. It is called “Enkiri Bridge” because when monks entered the island, they cut ties with the secular world. It is said that if you cross it, you will cut bad ties. There are about 50 rock caves scattered on the island, and you can see Buddha statues carved at that time. There is a shrine, so let’s visit it. “Oku no Hosomichi”. “Matsuo Basho” also came here (´ー`). I also wrote a haiku here. . .. … We have reached the southernmost tip of the island. There is a gazebo where you can take a break while looking at the view (´ー`). “Oshu Oshima Raiken Monument”. This monument was erected in 1307 by Raiken’s disciples at the end of the Kamakura period . The stone monument is 3m high and has inscriptions on its surface, but I couldn’t read them (^_^;). “Zazendo”. There was a path leading to the sea side, so we went around the island. This is Matsuo Basho’s haiku monument. “Shoginan ruins” . “Yakushido ruins”. We’ll take a sightseeing boat later (´ー`). “Myokakuan ruins”. We’ve come to the northernmost tip of the island. This is another amazing place (゚Д゚). There’s no explanation, so I’m not sure, but was this also used as a place of training? Inscriptions are carved on it. Going through the tunnel, there are many stone Buddha statues lined up. This is the whole tour of Oshima. It’s a small island, so it only takes about 30 minutes to go around it. A sign on a building just outside Oshima. The tsunami reached this high (>_<). I walked to the station. If you're coming by train, this is the starting point for sightseeing in Matsushima. There was a ticket booth for the sightseeing boat in front of the station, so I decided to buy tickets there. I decided to eat something before boarding the boat. Curry bread with oysters, a Matsushima specialty (*'▽'). And melon bread with zunda mochi, a Miyagi specialty (*'▽'). Oyster curry bread 400 yen. Oysters and curry go so well together (≧▽≦). Melon bread with zunda mochi 300 yen. The fluffy dough was filled with plenty of zunda mochi (´ー`). I decided to take the 13:30 boat. There is also a ticket booth right in front of the sightseeing boat dock. This ferry, labeled "Basho Course," is also a means of transportation from Matsushima to Shiogama. The "Niomaru Course" we took is a circular course, so we will return here again. The ride takes about 50 minutes. We set sail. The "Niomaru Course" is a course that travels around Matsushima Bay, covering a total length of about 17 kilometers. The island was named "Kanejima" (Bell Island) because the sound of the waves crashing against the four holes in the island sounds like a bell. The shape of the island, which was created over many years by erosion by the waves, resembles a Nio statue, so it was named "Niojima." What is the Nio statue? It was windy and the waves were high that day. The boat was rocking quite a bit (>_<). It was rocking so much that I felt like I was going to fall off the boat (;゚Д゚). There were many black-tailed gulls flying near the boat. It seems that you used to be able to feed them from the boat, but it is now prohibited. We returned to the departure point. If you are prone to seasickness, it is a good idea to take some medicine to prevent seasickness. Next, let's go to that place (´ー`). "Zuiganji Godaido". There is a bridge with an unusual design. You can see everything below (._.). This bridge is called "Sukashibashi" and is used to ensure that you are calm and collected before worshipping. It is said to be a consideration to keep your eyes on your feet and focus. It is said to have begun when Sakanoue no Tamuramaro built Bishamon-do in 807. It came to be called "Godaido" because Jikaku Daishi Ennin enshrined the Five Great Wisdom Kings statues there. The current building was rebuilt by Date Masamune and is the oldest Momoyama architecture still standing in the Tohoku region. The hall is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and has carvings of the twelve zodiac signs around the eaves. "Monument of the Three Views of Japan". "Kanrantei". The historic teahouse is attached to the Matsushima Museum, which displays cultural assets related to Matsushima. Apparently you can enjoy matcha tea and Japanese sweets while looking at the view of Matsushima. I regret not going in now (^_^;). Anyway, I went back to the parking lot. It was time to check in, so I headed to the hotel. I arrived. The hotel is built on a hill in Matsushima. A staff member guided me to the front desk (´ー`). Room 361. Let's go inside! It's a bright, Japanese-style room with just the right size. The first thing I saw when I entered the room was... This magnificent view (≧▽≦). It was beautiful even on a cloudy day. It was the best view (*'▽'). I took a quick tour of the room. I like that the drinking water tap and the sink are separate (´ー`). The amenities were bare minimum. There was a large public bath, but there was also a bath in the room. I'll relax while looking at this view until dinner (´ー`). It's time for dinner, so I headed to the venue. Dinner was a buffet of Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes. There was a wide selection and they all looked delicious (*´ω`*). There's no way I could eat all the varieties. It was hard to choose carefully (^_^;). And it was a strawberry fair, which I love (゚Д゚). You'd need about 10 stomachs for this (/ω\). I won't tell you that I had a second helping afterwards (´艸`*). There was also a piano performance at the dinner venue. I took a look at the shop next to the front desk. The shop was large and had lots of souvenirs. I'm off to the large public bath. The men's bath is at the back. The view from the window, dinner, and the large public bath are all wonderful in this hotel. I think I'll be able to get plenty of rest today (´ー`). Next time, it will be the first part of the second day of our 3-night, 4-day trip to Miyagi. I hope this video was of some use to you... If you liked it, please click the good button and subscribe to the channel! We are also looking forward to your opinions and comments (´ー`). Thank you for watching until the end. Please look forward to the next episode ~(^_^)/~
