Kokudo Station 1930 Tokyo
so welcome to Kokudo station or national highway station it’s uh nearsurumi Yokohama Kawasaki i was really excited to discover this place with my friends a couple years ago it’s actually a station from 1930 in its original condition uh JR uh Serumi line goes here and there used to be all kinds of shops uh restaurants there was a real estate agency here and now it’s just you know as people have gotten older they’ve moved away the station is still there but a few people look as though they live upstairs but for the most part it’s just exactly as you see it uh these people sometimes they walk through sometimes they go up to the Serumi line which then can go to the Cahin Tohugu line in um Serumi we’re not very we’re actually in Yokohama it’s not far from the center of Yokohama it’s you about a half hour from central Tokyo uh but it’s got an amazing history because it’s essentially as it was in 1930 as you go to the other side well right here see someone may be living up here uh some of these other places look as though they’ve been vacant for a very long time jr has reinforced some of it above because I imagine this concrete has gotten kind of rotten though what I found very interesting about old Tokyo is that the old reinforced concrete buildings actually do pretty well in earthquakes including the ones that are from the 20s and 30s that actually survived uh World War II after the great KTO earthquake of 1923 you can see here is the entrance the vending machine you see the pasmo place this week where you can put your card to get in get out on the right was the real estate agency this is the national highway the Kokudo which goes between uh Yokohama and Tokyo i think it’s highway 16 so that’s the name of this uh as you go to the outside of the station they’re actually bullet holes from the American bombing in World War II that they’ve just never they’ve put some netting over it but it’s just as it was um there used to be a station inside there station master you can see the steps going up to the platform and then above the arch is where the tracks actually are that’s a real estate agency that’s pretty long gone but the sign is still there i don’t know what the graffiti is about uh there’s still a mailbox there anyway I hope you find this as interesting as I do this is really old Tokyo if you get a chance to go to Kokudo Station I would highly highly recommend it thanks a lot for watching please subscribe and like it really does help and let me know what else you’d like to have on the channel thanks so much take care
JR Kokudo Station was originally the Tsurumi Railway, built in 1930 between Tsurumi and industrial areas of Yokohama. The line is for 4 car commuter trains and to transport oil to the Yokota US base. Kokudo station has not been renovated since 1930: Allied bombing bullet holes still appear on the outside. Please like and subscribe!
