Japan’s Most Luxurious Capsule Hotel 🏨+ A Stunning Fusion of Art & History at Dazaifu Shrine⛩️

First Cabin Hakata A luxury capsule hotel experience. A spacious locker with a key for extra security. Relax in the lounge. Enjoy a roomy and premium “First Class” capsule. Dazaifu Tenmangu is a short trip from the city. Treat yourself to mochi and matcha. Ongoing efforts to integrate with art The temporary shrine building is covered in greenery
on the roof—an artistic blend of past and future. Don’t miss it! Hello everyone! Today I’m starting from Tenjin in Fukuoka. Let’s walk toward Nakasu. Tonight, I’m staying at First Cabin Hakata
—one of the top luxury capsule hotels in Japan. This time, I’m exploring Nakasu and Dazaifu in Fukuoka. Nakasu is right in the heart of the city. The hotel is literally located in a
building on a small island between rivers. As the name suggests, it’s a capsule hotel
inspired by airplane First Class cabins. I wonder how it’s different from regular capsule hotels. I’m really curious! Let’s head inside the building. The hotel is located on the 8th floor. You’ll spot the “First Cabin” logo right away. The plane-themed wall design points the way. Here’s the entrance. Pricing is dynamic and tends to
increase during high-demand periods. I got a good deal by booking through the official website. Paid at the front desk, now entering
through the men’s entrance. Men’s and women’s areas are completely
separate—safer for solo female travelers. It’s like a maze in here 😅 Capsules line both sides—there are 120 in total on this floor. Here I am! F27—my First Class capsule for the night. Let’s turn on the lights. Wow! This feels more like a room than a capsule. I’ll close the door—it’s technically
not lockable due to regulations. There’s even a big 32-inch TV. Sugokaa!
(That’s Hakata dialect for “Awesome!”) You really get a sense of how spacious it is. There’s a table, and the bed is
a semi-double—120 cm wide. Fancy! Let’s check out the amenities left on the bed. Toothbrush. Face towel. Bath towel. Here are the earphones the staff gave me at check-in. And the top of the in-room loungewear. Light and breathable. And here are the pants. Everything’s clean and super convenient. Indoor slippers. They’ve got the First Cabin logo—really handy to have. On the side table, I’ve got… TV remote. Compact tissue box. And the facility guide. It shows emergency exits and all the hotel info. Also lists items you can borrow from the front desk. Chargers and adapters for
international guests—even humidifiers! You can control the room light brightness with this knob. There’s an AC outlet here too. Next to the bed are two more AC outlets,
a clock, and a headphone jack. You also get knobs to control air
conditioning and another room light. Here’s a small searchlight—handy in case of emergency. Here are three sturdy metal hangers. As expected from “First Class”—the room
is 2.1 meters deep and wide. Super spacious. The bed is wide and really comfortable. The mattress firmness is just right
—not too hard, not too soft. The front pillow is softer, with a nice feel… …while the back one is firmer and offers more
support. Definitely feels like airplane first class. Just amazing! And here’s the trash bin. One important thing: under the bed… …there’s a secure locker with a key. Perfect for storing your backpack and valuables. You get the key at check-in from the front desk. The earphones are for watching TV inside your capsule. Looking at the whole room again… It’s 2.1 meters tall too—you really feel the depth. I’ve never flown first class, but… …if this is what it’s like, I can totally enjoy the space here. By the way, what’s business class here like? Let’s take a quick look from the outside. Compared to regular capsule hotels… …the quality of the facilities really stands out. You can even store large luggage at the front desk—definitely upscale for a capsule stay. I’ll try staying here next time! I am not allowed to film the shower
or bath area, so I’ll skip that part. There’s a coin laundry in the shower area. And a vending machine too. There’s a lounge on the front desk floor where you
can relax or get work done—with free Wi-Fi, of course. Photos of the washbasin area & others are on the website. They are super clean—check them out! That wraps up the room tour, and
now the sun’s starting to set. Fukuoka is known for its amazing food stalls like these… I really want to stop by a food stall tonight, but… …Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, with its mix
of history and art, is just too tempting. So let’s check out what’s new
at Dazaifu Tenmangu! Let’s go! Actually, I already went earlier
today via the Nishitetsu Omuta Line. From Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station, it takes
about 30 minutes with good connections. I really want to experience the fusion
of old and new at Dazaifu Tenmangu. You transfer at Futsukaichi Station and head toward Dazaifu. I’ve arrived—super excited! The station greets you with a bridge-like platform. Along the 400-meter path to the
shrine, about 90 shops line the way. You’ll hear the soft chime of wind bells… …see delicate glass art… …and traditional Japanese umbrellas
blending beautifully with modern styles. Look at this! Aren’t they beautiful? So many handkerchief designs—so impressive! Even Starbucks has a traditional Japanese look here 😃 Passing through several Torii gates… …you naturally begin to feel more solemn. Crossing the arched bridge to the main shrine… …you leave everyday life behind… …and step into a sacred, otherworldly space. Dazaifu Tenmangu was founded in 905 AD. It’s the head shrine among 12,000
Tenmangu shrines across Japan. It draws about 8.5 million visitors a year. As you pass through the main gate toward the shrine… …something unusual appears… Trees are actually growing on top of the shrine roof! I’ve never seen anything like this before! This is a temporary main hall built during renovation—modern art meets sacred tradition. The design is by Sou Fujimoto, who’s also
behind the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai venue. The sight of greenery floating atop the roof… …blends beautifully with the surrounding Tenjin Forest
while also bringing a fresh breeze from the future. Sugawara no Michizane, the deity enshrined here, is known as the god of learning—and clearly, also the god of the arts. I admire how the shrine embraces
modern innovation without hesitation. Now, I’m going to draw a fortune slip! Let’s see what I get… Ta-da! It’s suekichi—a small blessing 😂 I guess it’s a message telling me to keep working hard! The forest around the shrine is so beautiful. There are also smaller shrines quietly tucked into the woods. I find myself naturally drawn into this sacred grove. The air is cool and crisp—truly refreshing for the soul. And as if led by fate… …I arrive at this charming tea house 😅 Unlike the busy main path, it’s quiet and
peaceful here. I love the atmosphere. I’m having a matcha set. The vibrant green of the tea blends
perfectly with the surrounding nature. Bitter, refreshing, and delicious. Now let’s try the local specialty—Umegae-mochi! It’s filled generously with red bean paste. Sweet and delicious—so satisfying! ☺️ Just one is enough to fill my heart, soul and stomach! Now I’ll sip the rest of my tea. I’m grateful for this quiet, peaceful
moment. Thank you for the treat! While Dazaifu Tenmangu is a symbol of history & tradition… …you’ll also find efforts to blend in contemporary art. What does this iron sphere represent? There are 10 installations like this
within and around the shrine grounds. And right next to the shrine is the Kyushu National Museum. It’s one of only four national museums in all of Japan. Walking through the tunnel feels
like entering a spaceship—it’s surreal! And then you see this massive, whale-like
glass structure rise before you. Let’s head inside. You’ll find a blend of traditional Japanese
materials and cutting-edge design. Dazaifu is a place where shrines, modern architecture,
contemporary art and National Museum all come together. It is truly a wonderland where past and future meet. Speaking of wonderlands… here’s one more! This cat I’ve found at the shrine… …doesn’t even flinch when I approach. Just snoozing away. Looks like he’s having the best nap ever. Now I’m getting sleepy too. Wait… am I staying now at a luxury
capsule hotel in Nakasu, Fukuoka? I’ve almost forgotten about it! Time to return to reality, right, kitty? Back in Nakasu at night—back to the real world? For dinner, I’m skipping the food stalls and heading
to Pietro, a Fukuoka-born famous pasta restaurant 😃 Tonight’s choice: Mentaiko Carbonara! It is so good, I nearly cry. Thank you for the meal! Back to my room after that long dream-like
day. Time to relax now after a shower. I’m still amazed by the height of this ceiling—
can’t believe this is a capsule hotel! It’s past midnight now. Starting to feel sleepy. Lights out. Good night. Good morning! It’s 5 a.m. now. A bit early, but I’ll go ahead and get up. I’m catching an early bullet train
from JR Hakata Station to head east. Moving quietly so I don’t disturb others… Huge thanks to First Cabin for such a luxurious night. Arigato Thank you! It felt less like a plane, and more like
sleeping inside a spaceship. So surreal. Here’s Nakasu in the early morning. So, how did you enjoy this little journey? I look forward to welcoming you onboard again soon! 😄 Thank you so much for watching!

This time, I stayed in a First Class room at First Cabin Hakata, one of the most luxurious options among capsule hotels. It offers a premium experience that goes far beyond the usual image of a capsule hotel—all at a surprisingly affordable price. Of course, prices may vary depending on the season, so I recommend checking the official website and making a reservation in advance. Capsule hotels are clearly evolving, ushering in a new era of stylish and accessible comfort.

And speaking of Fukuoka, you can’t miss Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. While deeply rooted in history and tradition, the area—including the nearby Kyushu National Museum—is also embracing modern art in fascinating ways. One of the most moving sights is the temporary shrine (kariden) unveiled in May 2023 during the first major renovation of the Important Cultural Property Main Hall in 124 years. This temporary structure beautifully integrates modern art with classical design, leaving me utterly speechless. I hope you’ll take notice of this fresh breeze sweeping through the sacred grounds—it’s an unforgettable moment of cultural transformation.
