A Day in Otaru: Music Box Museum, Steam Clock and Private Dining! | Hokkaido Travel Vlog
After an amazing night at Glamping Tomamu, we drove around 2 hours to get to Otaru. Can’t wait to explore this small charming port city of Hokkaido. UCHI Living Stay Suitengu We checked in at UCHI Living Stay Suitengu – it’s a cozy little place right in the heart of Otaru. It’s a modern apartment-style stay — spacious and great location. It’s just a short walk into the central area. After a quick freshen up, we hit the streets to explore. Otaru has such a unique vibe – it feels like stepping back in time. Antique Museum This museum is filled with vintage treasures from all over the world. The atmosphere is really nostalgic, definitely worth a visit if you’re into vintage aesthetics or history. Just a short walk away is the Otaru Music Box Museum. Right outside is the famous steam clock – it whistles and puffs out steam every 15 minutes! Otaru Music Box Museum There are shelves full of music boxes in every shape and size. It feels like walking through a dreamy little toy shop. Rokkatei Otaru Canal Store We also visited Rokkatei, one of Hokkaido’s signature confectionery brands. Hino Souhonke For dinner, we went to this hidden gem — a private dining experience tucked away in a quieter part of Otaru. Everything — from the sashimi to the hot dishes was presented like art. It was the most peaceful, memorable meal of our Hokkaido trip. Good morning from Otaru 🙂 Otaru Canal We kicked off Day 2 with a stroll along the iconic Otaru Canal. Bikkuri Donkey For breakfast, we couldn’t resist going back to Bikkuri Donkey. We first tried it in Sapporo and loved it. Otaru was short and sweet – good food, chill vibes, and a lot of charm. Now we’re off to Lake Toya – can’t wait for some lakeside views, fresh air, and hot springs! Stay tuned 🙂
Early April in Otaru was chilly but beautiful! After a 2-hour drive from our Glamping Tomamu, we spent a day exploring this cute canal town, checked out the famous music box shops, steam clock, local sweets, and ended the day with a private dining experience our local Japanese friend recommended — definitely a hidden gem!
